PS3 sold 56 milions already - 360s year head start nullified finally?

According to last figures, PS3 reached 56 millions units sold during Q2 2011. Latest 360 sales figures I have seen were 55 millions 360s sold as of june 2011, so is the gap that 360 had thanks to being a whole year longer on the market finally closed? Will Microsoft console end up last when all is said and done?

EDIT: Thanks to waltefmoney we have more precise numbers and its even closer than I thought - PS3 sold 56,5 million units worldwide and XBOX 360 sold 57,6 million units worldwide so far, so the gap is mere 1,1 million (that means PS3 outsold 360 by more than 1 million already this year).

I never believe anyones numbers im shown..sorry..but really..whats it matter other than some forum bragging rights? Nobody in the world actually knows or cares. And that goes for me..Not to sound mean or anything but its like worrying if Ford is outselling Chevy..do you care about that??lol

Huh, the Wii had no issue at all with the head start 360 had. :o It must be that the PS3 is just inferior to the Wii ? :twisted:

Head start doesn't count for much when the Xbox 360 doesn't sell in Japan.

Everyone knows the Japanese rarely buy foreign products. Microsoft have tried to crack Japan but haven't really got anywhere.

Consequently Sony was always going to catch up provided they came close to matching 360 sales in NA and EU.

the fact that a PLAYSTATION system is catching up to XBOX is a huge success alone.

Microsoft have sold 57.6M 360s, Sony have sold 55.5M PS3s, as at Sept 30th, 2011.

360 outsells PS3 in US and UK.

PS3 outsells 360 most other places particularly in Japan where there are hardly any 360 sales.

Thanks! I didnt know about this. So the gap is down to mere 1,5 million units worldwide, my guess is PS3 will erase that till the end of this year.

5 years later and the PS3 is still last place. It is kinda sad for Sony since everyone is ready for next gen but PS3 is still last place. That is right the leader by a large margin the 2 gens before this is last after 5 years. It is by far the biggest market share loss for a company ever.CanYouDiglt

No, I believe he's assuming that the Playstation brand was the undisputed leader in console gaming for 2 gens in a row, which is true.

Oh look another thread about who is in 2nd and 3rd place..who cares..Nintendo won, and neither Sony or MS have a chance of catching up before the next gen consoles get here.

Why should MS care about this? Even if the consoles are dead-even in worldwide sales, MS makes a larger profit on hardware and makes way,way, WAY more on software purchases and XBL subscription fees.
