PS3 sold 56 milions already - 360s year head start nullified finally?

In a way I can understand, it's easy to think xenophobia, but the gaming market is now western games for western gamers and Japanese games mostly for Japanese gamers. Graphics aren't even important to them according to Capcom. So their version of the 360 in terms of software would have to be almost a complete overhaul in theory.

I don't know how much they sell, but obviously they do sell quite well. Alot of the lemmings on here say that Sony is selling at a loss which isn't the case at all, if it were they would have axed it. The PS3 fat model was sold at a loss and what did they do? They axed it of course and then they brought out PS3 Slim and that's been making them profit, if it weren't then they would have axed it aswell. Obviously it's doing pretty well considering how they both had a price drop but PS3 is still more expensive than 360, and that's because it's in more demand, people are willing to pay more for PS3 than they are for a 360 because PS3 is in more demand. People that think otherwise have no business sense or understanding of markets. It's econmics 101 folks.....

But I don't really care about how much they sell because it doesn't affect me since I don't own any shares with these businesses.

whether micrsoft comes last or not the real failure here is sony for not getting the market share that they originally had with the play station 1 and 2, I think mircosoft did a pretty darn good job in market share this gen compare to the original failure that was the xbox with its 4 billion dollar lost.

+50M in sales of anything is certainly a success, but when you look at what Sony had in market share last gen vs what they have now. Sony certainly are the ones that have lost the most while both MS and NIN have gained. That's what both MS and NIN are are going to take away from this gen.Cant spin that…

Really the PS3 already out sold the 360. Simple logic speaks for itself if people choose to use it. Take the total number sold then divide that by the number by the number of years that system has been out.AmazonTreeBoa

According to last figures, PS3 reached 56 millions units sold during Q2 2011. Latest 360 sales figures I have seen were 55 millions 360s sold as of june 2011, so is the gap that 360 had thanks to being a whole year longer on the market finally closed? Will Microsoft console end up last when all is said and done?

EDIT: Thanks to waltefmoney we have more precise numbers and its even closer than I thought - PS3 sold 56,5 million units worldwide and XBOX 360 sold 57,6 million units worldwide so far, so the gap is mere 1,1 million (that means PS3 outsold 360 by more than 1 million already this year).

Also 360 had just one year head start and 120.000.000 less of a user base from xbox 1, comparing to PS2 140.000.000 users

Sure, the base PS3 model is more than the basic 360, but the premium 360 and Kinect bundles are all more than the $250 PS3 and the 360 is outselling PS3 in the US. The 360 likely has more "demand" in the states in this scenario.

And its only taken 6 years :| Thats pathetic for Sony coming off the hugely successful PS2. No matter what way you spin it, this gens been a win for Microsoft and a loss for Sony.

i dont think thats the only reason. Sony sells ps'3 WW. They have a much better WW placement of Playstation products than anyone. Hence the reason the ps2 is still selling really well.

360 has been terrible this year especially with few exclusives. I have both consoles but I will always prefer PS3.

Why should MS care about this? Even if the consoles are dead-even in worldwide sales, MS makes a larger profit on hardware and makes way,way, WAY more on software purchases and XBL subscription fees.
