[QUOTE="Evolved_One"]deepest and most beloved RPG? no one really talked about this game ...BioShockOwnz
Where have you been? Have you seen the majority of import reviews and player reactions (other than my own ;))? There is no other PS3 exclusive RPG that has done this well and/or is this deep.
Well, Valkyria Chronicles has a pretty strong critical acclaim, and it's a fairly deep game. This won't score very well though, in the west. It'll be marked down drastically for it's biggest selling point; its difficulty. It's not a game to hype, at all, for that reason alone. It'll be a game that's great for a certain audience, and not much else, due to the crushing difficulty, and well, to be quite frank, low production values. Still, a game I'll be buying day 1, especially with it's excellent pre-order packageWhat the combat like? Assuming those screens are gameplay and not CGI, it looks like Ninja Gaiden style action but I doubt that. Realtime in a JRPG usually just means you can close your eyes and mash the a button non-stop and you'll win every battle with ease.Senor_Kamiits not a JRPG. its a action, WRPG. its more like oblivion/monsterhunter, and this game has hard-ish difficulty

Define mistake, like a mistake whilst fighting enemies or falling into a trap. Back the beginning of a level? No checkpoints during levels?this video explains what i mean[QUOTE="Im_single"][QUOTE="toast_burner"]its not that difficult but a single mistake can send you back to the begining of the level.toast_burner

damn that video is WIN!! :) and I bet thats just the tutorial too! I've been waiting sooo long for a dark gritty RPG like this.Little late? I think everyone knows this already. Good news anyway. Don't you hate this game?aaronmullan
he hates it, he just wanted to highlight the fact that "PS3's deepest and most beloved RPG" is a game he doesn't like.
and yes its old news.

Looks awesome, but is it really as amazing as people are making it out to be? AAllxxjjnn
Pretty much.
There aren't a lot of games like it. It's a very dark, very difficult action-RPG. It's pretty unforgiving, but it's rarely unfair. It has a great sense of atmosphere, and that, combined with the difficulty, make the game very tense and exhilirating to play. The difficulty also gives you an amazing sense of accomplishment when you conquer difficult challenges and advance your character.
The combat isn't really complicated, but all the weapons work differently and the enemies are very varied, so your tactical decisions have a huge impact on the outcome of a battle. The game makes you feel the impossibility of the odds you're up against, and it doesn't really hold your hand, but you generally always have the tools to succeed.
It's an exciting and extremely rewarding game to play, if you're willing to accept the hurdles the game gives you.

Ah, I see I see. Running headfirst into a Mannoroth lookalike is a mistake indeed,What the combat like? This plays nothing like any JRPG on the market. Button mashing is not an option. Your moves are generally pretty deliberate, and all your actions are limited by a replenishing stamina meter. You or your enemies will usually be stunned if they are hit. If you leave yourself open, opponents' attacks will often do a lot of damage. You will face enemies early on that can take off half your health in a single swing.
It's nothing like Ninja Gaiden (far, far slower), but when thinking about the combat, it's more comparable to an action game than a JRPG.
[QUOTE="djsifer01"]Great game, for skilled RPG players only._VermYou don't have to be skilled. thats a myth. you just have to be smart at attacking. the RPG elements in this game don't affect it that much.Dude i have the game and have played i for several hours. It takes patience and some skill. Not a game for people who arent experienced RPG players.

Well, one source in particular that if you get killed it's your own fault, not the game's.I'm concerned about it's difficulty. Is it challenging or is it just stupid design decision tough?heretrix
i thought TC hates this game?? i've play and finish this game and i'll tell you this game is very addicitng at the same time very frustrating.. boss fight can kill you in 1-3 hits.

I think TC is just trying to tell everyone how elite he is. He hates the game, but the " PS3's deepest and most beloved RPG" is still beneath him.
They might add an easier difficulty, for the wimps. You know America... always wanting things easier (I'm American don't shoot me!)I'll be importing it from the US as soon as it's released.I heard that the US verison is going to be made easier though. Not sure if it's true.

well, after reading the reviews of the people that have played it...it looks like its WAY more frustrating/harder/difficult/painfull than NG games...
this is definetly a "try before you buy" type of game. it just seems too fustrating for me to even consider buying it.
NEED...STRESS...RELIEF :x
I have a feeling some reviews will hate the difficulty. It seems it matches the difficulty of olden games. Like from the nes and snes era.
This is an action! RPG The Game play resembles Onimusha. .
Those looking for an interactive journey with exploration, deep story and enjoyable cast will be disappointed. Not saying it will be a bad game, but they are already people comparing this to Oblivion and Mass Effect. This is not even in the same league as those two.
a lotof reviews said its challenging nothing about stupid design.I'm concerned about it's difficulty. Is it challenging or is it just stupid design decision tough? While I don't mind a challenge, games that are hard just to be hard are annoying as hell to me. I like to enjoy my RPGs, not get beat over the head by them.
heretrix
i'm soo glad i have this game imported. yea, it will bite you in the a** real bad when you start playing it. although as you get farther in the game, it will grow on you. you have to let yourself die in this game to appreciate its difficulty. it isn't a frustrating, it's just that it's no 'bust your way through' kund of game. it's a deep rpg. it's much better that fallout 3 and oblivion combined, i would dare say. the onlnie is really cool. you can go to other player's map and kill them to ge ttheir souls, or, you can even be a boss on their world and beat the hell out of 'em. lol. plus it's not region-locked.
