I mean, what were they thinking? It has to be a mistake, because that title is flat-out ridiculous. It doesn't make any sense at all!

Wow, watched the gameplay vids on youtube, this game looks terrible, and their is no way this is going to be more fun/ score better than Oblivion.
I should imagine this game did not do to well in Japan.
Main reason being is the dislike for western settings and the fact they seem put off by more dark and serious games and media in general.
Anime is a good example of this. Over here shows like Hellsing and Berserk are popular while in Japan they tend to do poor in the charts. The humour and general outlook on media like games and films seems to be a lot different for them. I'm probably spouting bull but hey this certainly seems true for anime. Look at some anime shows, its all woman with big breasts and cat ears total load of bull but yet for some reason they lap it up.
jwsoul
berserk and hellsing aren't popular in the west son.
[QUOTE="_Verm"]That's the point of the game, jesus. You can't expect to breeze through and beat every game. Some mini bosses in this game would probably constitute real bosses in some other games. Truth_Hurts_U
So your telling me the point of a game is to die in 1 hit? WoW... Glad you don't make games.
No its to give a sense of challenge. Insted of going blazing in and killing everything you have to pick your time to strike. Were you around the nes and snes days? Games like contra hell even mario had 1-2 hits your a dead man.
Japanese people grew up with games like Pac-Man, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Zelda 2, Castlevania (with some versions being toned for western audiences), ghouls and ghosts series to name a few which are considered mercilessly difficult. I can't think right now of any game from western developers that would fall on the top ten list of most hadcore difficult games ever. The US versions of Final Fantasy games were actually harder There are WRPGs that are much harder than some of the game from this era, Games like Ninja Gaiden 2 and Devil May Cry actually did better in the U.S. in terms of sales, There is no set way of saying that the Japanese are "more" hardcore or enjoy more difficult games. Thats just stupid if anything. and games like Pacman, Megaman, Ninja Gaiden Contra, Castlevania have been in the US and have all done very well.[QUOTE="RedruM_I"][QUOTE="jg4xchamp"] That is such a flawed statement it isn't even funny :|heretrix
I'm not saying that any japanese game is harder than all the western games or that any japanese player is more hardcore than western players but the fact that those kind of games were developed constantly originally for Japan is because the japanese gamers were pretty fond of hard and challenging games and therefore the ratio of hardcore gamers in japan is probably higher than in the west (I know those games were available in the west but they were primarily focused for japanese audiences). That's why I used the world 'generally' and not 'absolutely' or 'all the time', the best Ninja Gaiden player could be american for all I know but the ratio of hardcore gamers within the gaming community is probably higher in Japan and that's why more hardcore games are developed there (in America and in many other countries developers have to think more on casual gamers than in Japan IMO because they are much more of them than hardcores comparing, again, with the same ratio in Japan). And it doesn't say anything that a game sells better in the US than in Japan, that's almost obvious given that the US has like twice the population of Japan.

the game still looks like a pos to me
KratosTwin
Any reasons as to why?
Looks dull, no story, hard and slow combat, bland graphics. I want WKC...give me a release date for that.I haven't been following this game, but I recently looked at the videos of this thing. I looks really cool, and I want it :).
Finally, and PS3 WRPG worth getting!
sargentbotk
Um ... quote me if I'm wrong ... but this was developed by FromSoftware ... that would be a Japanese developer my friend.
Just watched the E309 trailer...while it doesnt quite look like a POS to me anymore im still not all that interested. While im sure many would love it, it just doesnt seem like something I would want to spend hours and hours into.
It did well. the reason they're bringing it here is because of demand via importingI should imagine this game did not do to well in Japan.

no, it was made by SCEInternational, i think. the game released in korea and asia also.I'll be importing it from the US as soon as it's released.I heard that the US verison is going to be made easier though. Not sure if it's true.
MJPK
Atlus is behind it,chances are, they'll make the U.S version even harder
[QUOTE="_Verm"]no, it was made by SCEInternational, i think. the game released in korea and asia also.Slashkice
It was published by Sony. FromSoftware is still the developer.
That's what I thought. FromSoftware is Japanese. Atlus is bringing it over if I'm correct. Gotta love Google.

although demon's souls as well as King's field series,Eternal Ring are made by from software who are japanese devs,at heart they're WRPG's through and through.
Meh, I didn't hear about this game till now. Went to GT and watched a few videos of this game. Looks like something I would play 3-4 hours then never touch again.
The amount of damage you take is insane as well. 1 boss hit in the video took 75% or so of hit HP.
Truth_Hurts_U
then go play a bethesda game then,if you want your' hand held..and steamroll through enemies and beat the game with a lvl 1 character.
What the combat like? Assuming those screens are gameplay and not CGI, it looks like Ninja Gaiden style action but I doubt that. Realtime in a JRPG usually just means you can close your eyes and mash the a button non-stop and you'll win every battle with ease.Senor_Kami
I would love to see you try and button mash in Demon's souls, let's see how far you get.
and people can also get the idea out of their head, that they'll be able to steamroll through the game by farming/grinding in a area with easier enemies to gain this high lvl uber badass character....it don't work that way.
From a gamers and artistic point of view from the images, the game looks effin amazing.
No one can deny that.
The difficulty will just seperate the MEN from the BOYS, in terms of gaming of course.
g0ddyX
I imported the game, and believe me,the graphics are grand.nothing sweeter than looking up at the open sky and seeing a dragon fly by and breathe fire.
there's a misunderstanding with the difficulty.yeah it's brutal.but it's also quite fair,if you die,it's because you made a stupid move while playing, and not because of some cheap design flaw
Not a WRPG its a JRPGI haven't been following this game, but I recently looked at the videos of this thing. I looks really cool, and I want it :).

the only thing JRPG about DS is it's made by eastern devs,as far as actual gameplay and theme goes, you really can't get more wrpg than this.

Thats what makes it a JRPG. Go play an early NES JRPG or MegaTEn game they are also play like an WRPG title but they are still JRPG's.[QUOTE="Kandlegoat"]
