A lot of casual gamers don't really see the reality, and people can't always be that informed. Think back to when you were a more casual gamer. With less knowledge about these technical details.

So if sony keeps throwing around buzz words like:

Those things just get stuck in people's head and they create hype, eventhough they will all turn out to be lies (and have turned out to be lies so many times in the past) Sony sells consoles this way.

That is how business is done.

It is all about taking advantage of the weak minded...

These are great news! Why is everyone so skeptical? This is a confirmation, not a rumour.

What that Sony has magically made up magic tech to avoid loading screens where every big manufacturer has failed?

Did you read the original Ps5 reveal Cerny did? He described how faster memory not only means shorter load times but also that you can stream the game world faster. So you will be able to move through a game like Spiderman much faster. I'm sure there are other possible gameplay improvements of that kind.

Bit silly, it's a luxury to have that SSD set up, I suppose the budget 500GB ones are more affordable, otherwise with a console, you have about a £400 budget to fit all the hardware in. Is this needed for gaming, because I feel like there other solutions they've skipped. Perhaps some sort of hybrid SSHD.

I'm running games on a 2TB WD Black HDD on the PC and it's really fast. Loading is not much of a thing at all. Eliminating loading seems like a needless ambition in consoles, there's more important places to spend that hardware budget imo.

More of this "crawl through shit" masked as a loading screen.

This. Or walk, run, ride through shit.

BUT.. if they actually put budget and if we really have 24-32 GB RAM next gen plus baseline SSD, they can probably put actual gameplay segments in between that keeps the illusion better.

Great news to hear and I'm especially excited to see the impact it has on future open world games.

Sony has connect their HDD into SATA to USD host connector on PS4.

I doubt the possibility of getting rid of loading screens, but they will be able to shorten it. Maybe in the future loading screen will be gone, but for now, they are here to stay.

I think both games like God of War 4 and Horizon: Zero Dawn done it right the first time and even Jak & Dexter: The Precursor Legacy did a good job with barley loading screens and that was impressive on PS2. We know they'll be loading screens, developers just got to learn how to get around this issue. Of course, when you die in the game, expect to see loading screen which is fine.

I don't think loading times are really in Sony's territory. I'm pretty sure if it's their 1st party games they can somewhat control it. But for 3rd party games i dunno. Having shit devs like Anthem will basically ruin everything.

Speaking of PS2, Rogue Galaxy also did a good job with minimum loading screen.

They can already reach this in current gen even on a 5400 rpm harddrive.

When speed increases so will data.

So yes he's technically right. However it means not much for PS5 games loading screens are here to stay.

Over ambitious again Sony, did they not learn from The CELL?

Loading is not something you can just skim around, even if it's masked like it was in Resident Evil on PS1 with a door animation.. an illusion is still BS to the claim.

Or a feeling of underhanded technicalities:

exaggeration = possibly more grounded

8K = UI, crapy 3D/beautiful 2D games in 8KCB/8K

120 FPS = similar to above or reprojection for VR

SSD = possibly a special cache system not the entire HDD or SATA 6gbps/NVME X1 speed

no load times = better load times/almost no load times/better illusion of load times.

They might not technically lie but it may feel that way.

If next gen base system targets 4K CB with 24 GB total RAM, decent CPU and baseline 1TB x4 NVME, it may happen on may games if they improve from GOW4 and MGSV baselines both with almost no cuts and not as archaic load times like almost every game today. There will still probably that long initial load though but hopefully under 1min and rare-5 second load times at worst.

Earlier rumors said that next gen xbox will have NVME (SSD). Seems the next gen duos will put ssd one way or another and raise baseline of AAA development that has a fast storage as a baseline.

But they do hope a lot of these terms and 'buzzwords' will stick around. Like 1080p and 4K this gen. When hardly any game was 1080p at the start of the gen, and 4K at the start of the mid gen upgrade.

I'd rather have 1080/60 for next gen than trying to go for 4K and failing and delivering botched results.

Remember the start of this gen? Many games went sub 30 fps to keep up with the resolution: Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, ...

Maybe we'll see low quality unskippable cutscenes because it's loading in the background. Hooray..

A worthy (and lofty) goal. I seriously doubt it.

If they do manage to do it, it will probably be with some cheap tricks like they did in God of War. Which imo is actually worse than a loading screen, because you're essentially being lied to about there not being a loading screen when in fact there essentially is, and instead they have you do some menial toil while you wait for the next segment to load.

All I hear about PS5 is big big promises.
