You will always have loading games have compressed data but with SSD it will be a lot quicker. You would think running games at 30fps would be more of a problem to move on from.

So hermit here have brag about SSD for years now,and all of the sudden the PS5 will have an SSD standard were the playing field will be even between all users and sony will take the most advantage and some how is bad now?

And lol as the usual lemmings like i_Cry_daily downplaying this already.

I am sure load times will not banish completely but then again they haven't vanish on PC or consoles so again what is the bad thing here?

Great news to hear and I'm especially excited to see the impact it has on future open world games.

We're still even at buzzword 30 FPS. Most 30 FPS target games aren't even rock solid 30.

I'd rather have 1080/60 for next gen than trying to go for 4K and failing and delivering botched results.

Remember the start of this gen? Many games went sub 30 fps to keep up with the resolution: Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, ...

Yeah. I might even be okay with 1920x2160p CB (PS4 Pro common res) for next gen but some will crucify due to them being terrified of sub native 4K lol

Or a feeling of underhanded technicalities:

exaggeration = possibly more grounded

8K = UI, crapy 3D/beautiful 2D games in 8KCB/8K

120 FPS = similar to above or reprojection for VR

SSD = possibly a special cache system not the entire HDD or SATA 6gbps/NVME X1 speed

no load times = better load times/almost no load times/better illusion of load times.

They might not technically lie but it may feel that way.

If next gen base system targets 4K CB with 24 GB total RAM, decent CPU and baseline 1TB x4 NVME, it may happen on may games if they improve from GOW4 and MGSV baselines both with almost no cuts and not as archaic load times like almost every game today. There will still probably that long initial load though but hopefully under 1min and rare-5 second load times at worst.

Yeah it's just business speech, boasting about stuff... They are not technically lies yes.

But they do hope a lot of these terms and 'buzzwords' will stick around. Like 1080p and 4K this gen. When hardly any game was 1080p at the start of the gen, and 4K at the start of the mid gen upgrade.

We're still even at buzzword 30 FPS. Most 30 FPS target games aren't even rock solid 30.

If i'm still rock solid at 30.. that's an achievement.

Not sure what you mean but yeah, achieving true rock solid 30 FPS with perfect solid frame timings on any scenario will be an achievement for next gen consoles for AAA games.

Fancy way of saying consoles finally moving to SSD.

Microsoft likely to do the same thing.

Assuming the PS5 is going to use SATA+nVME/PCIE-4.0 interface (with SSDs) + DRAM as a buffer cache via AMD's Infinity Fabric loading screen times can easily be reduced. However the main bottleneck in this scenario is software bound as games are still engineered around loading data from HDDs even with a SSD+DRAM cache solution, simply because if game is built around loading GB/s of random data, it can cause microstutters on an HDD. None of this is really unexpected.

In games like Gears, Uncharted etc, those sequences where you are walking slowly, listening to dialog that you can't skip serve as loading screens for the next section. This "trick" has been widely used since games got more cinematic. There are traversal sections in Uncharted that do the same thing.

One of the biggest jumps specially if you take into account that now games will be built to take advantage of shorter load times because every body has the same drive, but not only shorter load times less pop in as well in big levels.

@goldenelementxl: And? That doesn't mean it would cut the games times down. Climbing is a big part of Uncharted, hidden loading screens or not it wouldn't just disappear if a new UC came out, they'd still be plenty of climbing segments. But that's if a new Uncharted happens, which is doubtful.

The climbing and walking sequences in Uncharted are insufferable. Naughty Dog would be dumb to leave that bullshit in. And if you were to remove those portions from Uncharted 1-4, the games would be completed in one sitting easily. I would hope Naughty Dog would cut that trash in a new game.

Uncharted had always been that way,is a design not something to cover loading man, even if that could also be use as some kind of cover up for loading.

Double the artwork size would increase loading times e.g. scale 0.8 seconds by 2X would be 1.6 seconds. It depends on the game developer team's art direction.

If jumping to the yellow colored bricks is what made Uncharted fun for you, then yikes... The traversal, "hidden" items and hand to hand combat in those games are great examples of game design for the lowest common denominator. Naughty Dog knows their fans are dumb and need their hand held to finish the Uncharted movies.

I look forward to the new ways Naughty Dog finds to hold the gamers hand through the games. Especially since their fans enjoy it so much

1 - You don't get to decide if you owned someone. That's for the other folks in the thread to determine
2 - You can't read sentences and got exposed for it, but are claiming to have owned someone?

Maybe you should go back in that other thread and keep crying that the government should over-regulate video games. (1992 us would be so disappointed...)

I'm sure games will still have the initial loading screen, and then stream in the rest as it goes. There's already games like that now. Unless they've found a way to get bits from SSD to RAM and through the processor faster than the hardware on the market allows for currently, I can't see this happening.

When ever new console's are about to be released it reminds me just how ignorant and or disconnected from technology the majority of the gaming industry really is.

Is it possible with streamed games? If so, are they building a streaming service for it like PS Now? I would imagine they'd keep building off that.

Man stop you bullshit crap.

You lemming still to this day downplay the importance of blu-ray on 2006 just to not admit that SONY saw a problem with space and acted by introducing something better, while MS refuse to see it,and now you want to act like SSD is a damn given and that the xbox next will have it some how as well as the PS5?

And that some how that is not news?

No i did not because SSD is expensive STILL specially big drives and if your games next gen will all carry 4k assets you can bet your house that those games will be HUGE in size,so using a 500GB SSD is lol worthy and using a 2TB one would be mighty expensive.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100011693%20600038497

And while i am sure that sony will not pay what you do for those drives or close i am sure it will be hell of expensive, this is a console produced in masses so $10 dollars more for one part in the first 10 million units and we are talking about sony spending $100 millions more.

You can get a 1TB one for like $100+ but yeah you will probably be able to install a few games and soon you will be erasing games from your drive,Forza is 100GB long this gen imaging how next gen is going to be.

So no SSD wasn't a given and i am surprise that sony made the jump and will be as surprise if MS does it,because even that it is the next step,it still is expensive and sony and MS both work with a budget to not over kill it and considering they are dishing jaguar and hoping on the more expensive Ryzen brand with GPU that will probably pack a punch i say it was even less of a given.

Those in the know are not surprised, both by your stupidity and the inclusion of SSD.

Coming from you that is lol worthy.

NO SSD wasn't a given neither for the PS5 or next xbox.

You wanting to act like this is nothing to downplay the news is a joke.

PS5 not due out for next 12 months, more likely 18-24 months. Aimed at delivering 4k and even 8k graphics (if you believe what Sony says). SSD will be less than $0.1 per gig by then.

Its a no brainer it was going to be SSD, so having an orgasm over it being in the PS5 makes you a joke.

Man stop just because you want to play it like it is not big news doesn't mean it is not.

If it was MS you would be all over it.

No one is having an orgasm about it hell i don't even believe loading will be gone.

So yeah drop the act dude.

This is impossible. No matter how fast the SSD is, you cannot just "remove all loading screens." You can only significantly reduce loading times to the point where it's over in a split second. They're not gone though.

Do you think we can have free supplemental SSDs inside next gen consoles mostly to improve load times?

What are you on about?

Your talking about something 13 years ago that I wasn't a part of and expect me to take you seriously.

Get a grip man.

Rather than answer a simply question you talk shit.

You really expected the next gen consoles to not have SSD.

Yes or No

Lets totally ignore Sony's exaggeration of a technology that already exists.

Unlike PS4 Pro's low ball 5400 rpm HDD, X1X has 7200 rpm HDD upgrade. Microsoft is factoring non-volatile data storage according to machine's compute power and RAM storage. For CE markets, SSD is the next evolution after 7200 rpm HDD.

This was done by Coleco clear back in the 1980s, loading from tape in the back ground while you played the game. I would really be surprised if Sony is smart enough to come up with the hardware to do this. I don't ever remember MS stating the 360 would do this or in fact any other computer.

What act do you think I'm playing. Apply logic and those with half a brain would probably had a bet on it being SSD. The evidence is there in front of you.

Its not big news by any means.

Bom for PS4 hdd = 28 bucks.

You can get SSD's today already with 240gb capacity for 24 bucks something they probably aim for or maybe 512gb. With not having resellers and other stuff in between + probably more then a year left to get that thing launched, the prices are going to be absolutely acceptable in that time period.

SSD however 18 months ago where in a bad spot same for memory modules. The reason for this was mining. With the mining craze going down and market getting overrunned by the chips, the prices are tanking hard.

Hell i could even see them go in 12 months from now for a close to 1tb ssd solution if prices keep dropping. It's whatever they can get for ~30 bucks.

He wont listen

1tb SSD halved in price in less than a year, Companies opening new factories (Toshiba) for SSD production, others moving to mass production of GLC SSD. Everyone saying 2019 is the year for mass reductions to SSD. Market settling down after the mining crap. PS5 probably not coming for 18 months+.

Odds on it being SSD where low on a next gen console (even if it was the pro/X version only).

But to some it was a big surprise.
