Do you even get to keep these free games after your subsciption expires?

And xbox live gold gives weekly discounts for certain games in case anyone's forgot.

Discounts... so you still have to pay for it, right?

Some games you can keep, others you can't. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Regular PSN has discounts as well, PSN+ discount just stacks on top of PSN discount. So a game that is $14.99, might go 50% off to PSN users and be $7.50, PSN+ users might get another 20% making it $6 (or even less sometimes).

PSN+ also frequently has discounts on DAY 1 releases, in a few select cases games have even been "free" on day 1.

It's a shame it is only "free" so long as you keep paying for PSN+. The fact you pay for free things means you are doing just that... paying for things. It is an illusion.

PS+ is a great deal, I know its not technically free games, but you save a lot of money on some great games, DLC, discounts, countless free themes/avatars, Qore, and some other neat things like cloud saves and auto updates.

The money you used for the subscription is already made up for in about 2 months.

Its an excellent service, and people who talk down about PS+ must not know enough about it, or only hate it because its Sony and are jealous that it offers a better deal than XBL.

They're not free. You're paying just for being able to get access to the games...

... top quality? i don't sense a difference in online play when i play on psn and xbox live

waltefmoney

You just CANT compare PSN+ versus XBLA because both are two diffrent worlds.. one that asks you to pay $60 a year just to play online with your friends or watch netflix ( XBL ) while the the other lets you play with your friends, watch anything online for free ( PSN ).. PSN+ is an optional service for those wanting to enjoy the deals that range from free games to discounts and yes its top quality and is going to improve more and more with time... example i always wanted to try Far Cry 2 but i didnt want to buy it for $29 ( its current price last time i checked ). now i just got it for free this week.

Why are you so delusional finalstar?

Delusional? He said he wanted FarCry 2 but didn't want to spend $29 on it. Instead, he can now basically get a sub on a rental service that gives him access to FarCry 2, so he can play it for a month and be done with it, a game with not much replay value might I add. Plus benefits of discounts and other free games. If you buy a lot from the digital store, PSN+ could be profitable for you.

Hold on a second here. When you stop paying for PSN+ you will no longer have access to those games. You aren't getting anything for free. You are on a heavily discounted rental plan with limited selection.

None of those games interest me so still no value in PS+ for me.

It's good that they are finally offering a good amount of games that some people find interesting. Usually it's just a few worn out games that no one cares about. It's the Island of Misfit Video Games.

I am still laughing at all the people trying to argue that they are getting "free" games though.

XBL offers discounts on games to Silver (free) members. Either way, both paid subscriptions are worthless unless one really likes to invest disposable income into these services.

PSN already gives regular discounts. PSN+ gives discounts on top of discounts but you probably knew that. All I'm saying is, for the same price...PS+ offers a lot more in comparison to XBL.

Isn't it like $9.99 a month or something like that? I'm not sure. I don't get PS+. You can get XBL 12 month Sub for $40-$50 now. I extended mine before the price went up for $44 a year.

Let me just say that I am not a PSN+ member... but I did do the math last year.

The savings that I would have received from all the discounts would have paid for the cost of the membership. And this is just all the stuff I would buy normally. If I was a member I would have also taken advantage of all the free stuff.

Did I learn my lesson? No.. still not a memebr and I just bough MK Arcade Kollection for $5 more than a PSN+ member would pay.

PSN+ gives me free stuff too. Too bad once I stop subscribing that free stuff is gone.

Can't believe you had the guts to make a thread after that Twisted Metal debacle, how embarrassing.

I gave Micrsoft some money and they gave me a free XBL subscription. Then I gave them some more money and they gave me some free XBLA games. I'm thinking about giving them some more money for another free XBLA game.

finalstar2007

This. Seriously the main selling point for me with the PS3 was the free online. To me PSN+ is just not worth it, I don't download very many games and always buy physical if given the option. I only buy DLC if it really good i.e. 8.0+ PSN is more than enough for my needs.

I just don't see a point to PSN+ That monthly subscription could go to actual games instead of crappy DLG I don't want and never asked for. Think about it if you're not saving the monthly subscription cost every month you're wasting money. And if you are ask yourself one question are you downloading and playing games because you want to or because you feel the need to to justify paying for PSN+?

Thats why PS+ is Optional, your not interested in playing games or avatars or cloud then dont pay and enjoy playing online on PSN without worrying about PS+

It doesn't matter if it's optional or not, you still have to pay if you want the "free" stuff on PSN+ which is what this thread is supposedly about.

Well, the maps, arcade games, dlc, themes/gamer pics I have gotten for FREE on Xbox Live will remain free the second I cancel Xbox Live. So I pay less than $3 a month for a service that is well maintained with excellent security, all the features I want and a booming community AND get to keep the stuff I got for free. You pay over $4 a month to rent games with a dead community, horrible interface and less features.

Keep mooooing....

PSN Plus is a better deal than XBL, I'm not trying to be a fanboy but it is the truth. You pay a fee and in return you get huge discounts and free games each month, in the long run that ends up saving you a HUGE amount of money. However it also depends on how much you download as well, if you don't download alot than PS Plus isn't worth it, if you do than it's a no brainer.

Alot of Lems bash it saying "they lock out your free games so it sucks" well guess what? What does XBL do? It locks outa HUGE portion of your game as well! And that's from the main games you buy, you don't pay for XBL than you can't play any of your games that you already paid for over your own internet. With PS PLus if you actually buy the FREE games you can do whatever you want with them regardless if PS Plus runs out or not.

PS Plus >>> XBL Gold, it's actually a value and makes sense to pay for PS Plus, it gives you stuff. Xbox Gold does not, it just gives you access to part of your game you already paid for in the first place.

I'll definately take the optional paid service that gives me free games and DLC on a bi-weekly basis. Its even more rewarding if you own both a PSP and a PS3. You get way more for your money. XBL charges you for the fundamental access that PSN provides for free. Many people already pay a monthly internet bill, so why charge them again for it? If you are going to charge someone money for something, make it worhwhile...Sony definately does this. PS + FTW!

Yeah but you still technically have to pay. You have to register purchased games to receive the points that you build up to redeem for the free stuff. With PS+ , you pay at minimum $17 for three months and recieve back far greater than that value in free content (not to mention the tons of discounts). With Club Nintendo, you have to buy 3 or more games to have enough points just to buy 1 of the very few games they have available for free download to members.

Yeah but at what rate totally depends on the person's income. Not everyone is fortunate enough to buy $120 worth of games just to get a retro classic for free. There are more people who can afford $6 a month for multiple free games and other content.

Yeah, I some times have problems navigating my list too since its pretty long. There seems to be an issue on both platforms (PS3 and PSP) that when scrolling down the list, it likes to change numerical directions on you if you don't wait to let the next set of game listings load. For example...Far Cry 2 can be number 25 on your list of downloaded games but if its still loading when you get to it, you may end up at whatever game is # 53 on your list when its done loading. Weird...I know. The PSP interface seems to suffer greater from this issue.

That's the problem. Would you rather pay full price and be able to play the game indefinitely or pay a monthly fee to rent it? Sure FREE as long as you keep paying your subscription fee. lol!! Almost like OnLive. If it's FREE you should be able to play it even after you unsubscribe to PS+. It's like Sony is an Indian giving. I give it, I take it away. I give it, I take it away. lol!! It's stupid. Ever FREE game I've gotten from XBL I can play even when I'm not on XBL. We got Crimson Alliance, Undertow and Texas Hold Poker for free.

Meantime Sony continues to lose billions and Microsoft continues to be profitable with the XBox 360 and XBL service. Don't expect PSN to be free on the PS4. I can guarantee you that you'll be paying to play online when it launches. Unless Sony wants to continue to lose billions again. That is one of the reasons they are losing so much much. PS+ is fine, but I doubt they have as many subscribers as XBL.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! How about not being able to play used games and using a tablet to play everything else next gen?! And MS is more profitable. Best joke, I've heard all week...

And let's completely ignore that PS+ isn't just about giving stuff away for "free" (as you like to reference it) but also gives discounts up to 75% off for games YOU CAN KEEP after your subscription is up!

[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"]

PS+ is good mainly for those who buy alot of stuff from the store like me. I was hesitant at first but its been paying off alot and its only been a month.

Slashkice

I find it's better if you don't buy a lot, that way when the monthly games come around you can avoid the "oh I have that already" moment.

Anyway, I have two free months left. Not sure if I'll actually subscribe once that's over, but the free stuff is nice. I've gotten like a dozen games for nothing. :3

Exactly. This is my thinking.

I only buy PSN games occasionally. PSN+ is cool because it gives you a selection for not much money. $40 for 15 months worth.

It's hilarious that people are calling these "misfit games". They give you enough games that there is no way they ALL are going to be good, however it's not like they are all bad. Some are among the top downloadable games you can get (Wipeout HD, Super Stardust HD, Hydrophobia, Stacking, Hamsterball, etc). The latest trend seems to be FULL RETAIL games. I'll take a "mediocre" full retail game any day of the week over most downloadable games which are designed to be beaten in a few hours anyway. PS1 games have included some "junk", but also real classics like Resident Evil Directors Cut, RE2 and RE3, the Crash Bandicoot games, the Syphon Filter games, etc. The only problem I have, is literally there is no way I have enough time to play everything on PSN+ as well as keep up with the retail games that I buy.

I wish they gave way more DLC (as was originally implied). But hey, I got the first 3 DLC packs for Killzone 3 for with it, SOCOM 4 DLC, and DLC for a couple of the indy/arcade games. Also the few PSN games that I actually bought right away, I used PSN+ to help take $3 or $4 extra off which just adds to the value. It really was an amazing year of content for PSN+.

So you're paying for a service...to get "free" stuff?
