I'm talking about the "co-existing" portion. For both to co exist, both must be alive. However, Ninty seems to have pulled the plug on the Wii already with SS being the last good 1st party game.

I find it funny that Nintendo justified the lackluster 2011 lineup by claiming that they are focusing on the Wii U. That would only make sense if the Wii U is to replace the Wii. Now they are saying that the Wii U will cater for a different demographic altogether. If that's the case, then they shouldn't be shifting focus at all, since the Wii and Wii U will coexist.

seems to me that nintendo is making the sega mistake. Too many consoles out at one time. the ds was the same price as the 3ds last time I hit the game store, the wii should just die out cause doesn't the wii u support the wii motes anyway. Hell a new pokemon was announced for the ds, what sense does that make.

What? Please, no Nintendo. I don't want to spend more than 300$ on a console. I haven't yet and I will continue to do so. If that means never picking up the Wii U, then so be it.

Anyway, if it is over $300 i will probably wait for a price cut, $350 if the launch titles are looking extrememly good.

If the whole article was posted, people would've saw he was comparing to the price of the Wii now which is like, what? $100-150? $300-$500 would definitely be a lot more than whatever the Wii is.

I'm slightly worried about that as well. However, Nintendo simply cannot sell "another" wii. The "wii" crowd that Nintendo gained this gen will not see a reason to upgrade unless it is readily apparent the upgrade is actually worth it.

I don't see Nintendo pricing this thing above what they're comfortable with and what works for Nintendo. Nintendo has always been a company that waits till hardware is cheap and sells it at a profit. It's the same situation here, the controller might add to costs but the hardware is inexpensive by today's standards (as it mostly seems like a minimal jump from PS3/360).

After the 3DS didn't do as well as they expected at $249.99, I don't see them selling the Wii U at an expensive price.

Wii and Wii U will never coexist as exchangeable options. Developers arent going to keep making new games for the Wii because consumers dont care about old consoles any longer than a year after the next one has launched. Plus whats the pricing game going to put it at? You'll never get people to buy lesser quality games for the same price as Wii U games.

It's an advantage to the business, the Wii is inexpensive to manufacture and will gain more sales, which means more money for Nintendo. By 2012, the Wii U will be more of a risk for Nintendo to bring to the market than the Wii is. If they start to lose revenue from one, they're still gaining revenue from the other while gaining revenue from the Wii, 3DS, DSi and DSi XL.

Sony continuing support of the PS2 was probably one of the smarter things they did handling their business back then.

No one said anything about continual support on the software front. More so, it's about seeing how much milage Nintendo can get out of the Wii. Once the demand is ata level where it's not profitable to leave it on store shelves, Nintendo will hault production. I'm sure a lot of people don't heavily invest in gaming who are willing to spend $150 or so on a console with an already solid library of titles.

The little else Nintendo releases throughout the year will be enough to add onto the existing library, like Xenoblade.
