Sony has to release the console as it is at this point. They need to hit the holiday season or risk MS running holiday specials on the newer/shinier XboneS. And this is without discussing the economics of inventory on PSVR and Neo parts. A minor clock increase is surely possible, but consoles are usually clocked at rate where increases usually don't give a good bang for the buck when compared to the risk.

Unless they had 2 sku like some rumors claim sometime ago,i don't see any change probably a bump in clock speed,there is nothing they can do without a delay,and while MS can rise the specs again the more they rise the more it cost MS just can't slap any GPU inside Scorpio you can't make an APU with 64CU GPU and CPU good enough to move it probably even half way and without into getting into huge thermal issues.

The original NEO leak's 2.3X is within the old Polaris's\ 2.5X perf/watt guidelines.
If updated NEO aims at 2.6X perf/watt, it's 4.75 TFLOPS. Polaris 10's worst case working yield is RX-470 SKU with 4.9 TFLOPS.
Memory channel's width is up to MS or Sony to advice AMD.
MS selected 384 bit external bus PCB with "more than 320 GB/s memory bandwidth".
Sony selected 256 bit external bus PCB with 256 GB/s limit from 256 bit GDDR5-8000.
MS knows high end PC GPUs are mostly effective memory bandwidth bound.
The frame rate gap in most benchmarks between GTX 1080 and Fury X are mostly effective memory bandwidth bound.
PS; GDDR5X has additional links over normal GDDR5, hence higher PCB trace lines.

Neo hasn't released yet. Scorpio hasn't released yet. I am sure most consumers (like myself) will decide after the dust has settled which console to pick up. I win either way once I make an informed decision and these two consoles are available (or I decide to finally build a new gaming rig).
If Sony screws up, why would I personally care? I was 360 last gen, ps4 this gen. I have played and enjoyed 1st party IP's from both...
I find out odd Xbox fanboys try to act superior like Scorpio is already out and has made the PS4 irrelevant (dont forget your xbox one). The only thing that can do that currently is a gaming pc...

PS4 is indeed still current gen 8 and the WORLD's most powerful video game console in the history of video games. I think that propelled SONY to #1 across the world and led to the domination of NPD's for 8 straight months,

Extra FLOPS without increase in corresponding effective memory bandwidth are less effective when compared to a similar GPU with higher grade memory bandwidth.
According to AMD's RX series, >256 bit memory bus = RX-9xx family with 4K.
Scorpio's 384 bit memory bus follows AMD's advise on 4K.
Fury X's 8.6 TFLOPS has effective memory bandwidth similar to 980 Ti/Titan X(GM200) and slightly above R9-390X (5.9 TFLOPS) hence Furry X has wasted it's high FLOPS capability.
As for RX-480, any overclock editions will be bounded by effective memory bandwidth.

The memory bandwidth gap between Fury X and R9-290 = 1.266X (random textures)
With Fury X, it's memory compression is inferior to NVIDIA's Maxwell.
The FLOPS gap between Fury X and R9-290 = 1.48X
The frame rate gap between R9-290X and Fury X is 1.19X.
Random texture memory bandwidth gap's 1.266X factor is closer to frame rate gap's 1.19X.FLOPS gap between R9-290X (5.8 TFLOPS)and Fury X (8.6 TFLOPS) plays very little part with frame rate gap.
With 980 Ti (5.63 TFLOPS), it's superior memory compression enables it to match Fury X's results.
Conclusion: When there's enough FLOPS for a particular workload, effective memory bandwidth is better prediction method for higher grade GPUs.
@ronvalencia: OK, good point. And this is also proven looking back on the evolution of the GPU, that new leaps in memory bandwidth has to be taken to improve graphics processing. But Sony can increase the clockspeed on the GDDR5 as well, increasing bandwidth.
So the announced specs on both the Neo and Scorpio suggests that the memory bandwidth is 1.5 times faster on the Scorpio, before any upclocking. But when games are running at 1080p, which most games will, I think the difference will be minimal even at these specs. But on resolutions beyond 1080p, we will see the Scorpio pull ahead. But at the same time, 333GB/s bandwidth still isn't enough for pure native 4K gaming. It should probably have to be at least twice that.
