Now, it seems that MS doesnt really care about its gamers, if they just gon giive up on the first 360. Take a look at the original Xbox, after the 360's release. The Xbox was completely kicked to the curb after a short lifespan due to 360. If this happens again, then Version 2, would be more focused on...alfy13

I say just the opposite. By not offering HDMI and a larger hard drive last year, MS gave gamers a console that will play the same games as this 'updated' one will, but gave them that console for a LOT less money than if this updated one was available at launch. Had these features been available at launch, there wouldn't have been much use for them (or at least as much as there is now) and it would have cost a lot more. MS has not been shy about saying they are going to give consumers the best product for the money, and offer upgrades when available. I wouldn't be surprised if when this is launched, an HDMI cable is also going to be made available for owners of the current 360.

but the question i ask you is, why did MS say we dont need HDMI or a bigger HD like what 8-9months ago, to counter PS3 hd space and HDMI. now they are saying we need it? are they trying to future proof a product now? I trusted MS word and bought it . felt comfortable with my purchase. NOw MS comes out a year later pretty much stating what they said before is bunch of BS.

Well, you could find this same fault with the PS3. Sony stating they needed two HDMI ports, but no rumble. Sony added motion sensor to it controller at the last minute after Nintendo announced theirs month earlier. All 3 of these companies are competing with each other and will try to outdo each other whenever possible. Never take their comments as hardcore fact, because they will change those comments months or even years down the road. Gamers complained about now have HDMI right after the XBox360 was launched. They complained about not have enough HD space. So M$ has listened to the gamers and added these things to their system. Better they add in now then 2yrs from now. The majority of this upgrade isn't even needed. You can still get 1080p with component cables anyways. The only real plus with HDMI is better digital sound.

Yeah, but then, u would have to cough up more money for this one...

Why do you need to BUY IT? But teh 1080p? Maybe in 2010. Jeez, How many pepole have HD TV's let alone HDMI compatible HDTV's.

I have one and use VGA for my 1080p.  I don't have a surround sound set-up that will do anymore than 6.1 DTS ES, so I couldn't take advantage of the Dolby HD surround as is.
if this is true. i hope it cost more then 399.00, because if not. then i guess that is what i get for getting a launch version 360.  Hopefully they will alllow us to upgrade our hard drives at least. http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/the-second-xbox-360-revealed-codename-zephyr/
Of course you can upgrade the HDD...  it is removeable after all.

Every product in exsistence gets upgraded.  Video Game consoles should not be any different...  If someone buys a console three years after launch when technology is better and cheaper...  why should they get the same thing people got when it was cutting edge?  Would you ever buy a 2007 car if it was exactly the same as the 2004 model?  Or buy a new SDTV when HDTVs are the same price?

The PS2 was upgraded to be smaller and include ethernet for the same price.  That was one of Sony's good moves.  Historically consoles are NOT upgraded when every other product, especially technology, is upgraded.

For some reason gamers are complainers...  they feel like they get screwed somehow...  Do you feel screwed when you buy a tv, or a computer, or a cell phone, or a car, or anything else?  Becasue EVERYTHING gets a new model...  most things get a new model EVERY YEAR.

I really hope this doesn't happen, same thing with the DVD Wii, and the eventual PS3 slim. I'd rather the big 3 not do this to early adapters because its a real kick in the crotch to them.
Why is it always Microsoft's fault?

They told everyone a new CPU that is smaller, less heat and less energy would be released in 2007.

They told everyone that if there was a demand for HDMI... They would include it.

They told everyone that they would be looking at making a larger hard drive in the future.

Now it's coming to life. Because the demand is there. Now every one is crying about it. Well you now you have it. Now you can stop crying you don't have it.

Don't cry because you couldn't wait an extra year to get one of these upgraded Xbox 360s. It's your fault. Not Microsoft's.

alfy13

problem with your logic is this. MS KNEW THEY WAS GOING TO ADD CONTENT THAT YOU CAN DL which is going to EAT UP 20GIGS OF SPACE REALLY FAST (you know the stuff they been braggina bout in the past month like TV SHOWS , MOVIES) . but yet they rushed a console out. 2 MS KNEW ABOUT HDMI TECH, BUT FELT THEY SHOULD JUST LEAVE IT OUT. Because they wanted to rushe a console out. yes im pissed. because MS SAID , WE DOTN NEED THAT . OUR CONSOLE IS JUST FOR GAMING. and made fun of sony for making a MEDIA PLAYER.

Stop your whining. You're blowing this all out of proportion. M$ had already intended on bringing out a larger HD before they even launched the XBox360. Because they knew some people might not think 20GB was large enough. HDMI still isn't needed. M$ is adding now as an additional option for people who may want to use it, but you can still use the component cables to play games and watch HD-DVD's in 1080p native resolution. The only real change is the CPU be cooler. Either way, it's not going to effect gameplay on the system. Stuff like has happened to consoles going back to the Atari 2600 and NES. This is nothing new, so I don't understand why people are bi%$&#*@ about it. The majority of XBox360 owners are not going to run out and get the new version. Most people will get the 120GB HD, but that's about it.

Same thing with more simple connectivity and a larger HDD, well it's about time for a price drop, come on it's been a year already Microsoft. After this happens the PS3 will be dead, weaker hardware with a higher price, the PS3 simply can not survive. The bigger HDD should be the last kick to Sony to send them to the grave.

Problem with your logic. You didn't keep up with the 360 through it's life.

HDMI is expensive. They left it out because the cable would be to much for people to want to purchase. Xbox 360 uses a universal output... It can do many things. They said that a HDMI cable is possible.

20 Gigs is more then enough for me. I don't have Xbox live and I delete old save files. I still have 14 GB free. The 20 GB portable hard drive is expensive to make. Due to it's study designe. They left out bigger versions till the time is right for the demand and the price.

Xbox 360 is a games console. You don't need any of that for games. VGA is fine. 20 GB is fine.

When you want more then a games console then... VGA isn't fine and 20 GB isn't fine. This market is smaller... This market comes last.

DID YOU JUST FORGOT WHAT YOU TYPED EARLIER?

Obviously you don't get it, but that's ok. Most kids probably wouldn't understand. If you knew even a little bit about cost of manufacturing and components, maybe you would get it. At the time the XBox360 was released HDMI, wasn't needed and neither was a 120GB drive. Now that the system is out and more HDTV's are being sold, M$ have decided to add HDMI to the system. The cost of HDMI is obviously less now then it was a year ago. The real point is that HDMI still isn't needed to watch 1080p HD-DVD movies or play games in 1080p resolution.. I think that's the main point you don't understand. So it's still not needed, but because gamers has asked for it, M$ was nice enough to add it in this updated version for future buyers. I have a HDTV with HDMI, but I don't need it. Component cables does the same thing.

You can for gaming.  I think for the HD-DVD to do 1080p because of HDCP you need VGA.  Plus I needed to free up a component set for my Wii because it wasn't displaying some games that weren't 480p or progressive through my component switchbox.

Yep but to lemmings, its your fault. even though you didnt know a year later there will be a better version out. DONT YOU JUST LOVE HOW LEMMINGS THINK? OR ANY FANBOY OF ANY CONSOLE? god they are so pathetic. but they want us causual to sit and take it up the axx and say its A OK MS.

Don't you love how kids whine? Pathetic indeed.

Better version? Not quite. Having HDMI doesn't make it better. A cooler processor is better, but barely. The 120GB HD will most likely be seperate or cost $50 more if it's included.

This has to be one of the funniest, silliest complaints I've seen. Made for an interesting thread.
Well MS dropped the original Xbox's price 6 months after it launched. From $299 to $199. That's significant Did they screw over consumers then? I mean it's generally the same idea. Everyone gets burned by price drops and hardware revisions if they happened to aquire the system in question right before those changes. Imagine the people who bought a DS right before DS Lite was announced? Or people who bought a PS2 right before slimline was announced? Not all of them necessarily had the consoles since launch. If you're really that offended, I suggest you stick to not buying any consoles ever again til the end of the generation, when you KNOW no new features or price cuts will happenalfy13
question, did the ps2 slime line come out a 11/2 year later? the answer is nope. but for pricing, i bought the 399.00 version of the 360, which hasnt dropped yet. IM talking about MS SCREWING ME OVER . a year and half later they decide to push HD , when they made fun of sony for doing it. oh nvm you Lemmings , Cows, Sheeps will never understsand. you defend a product till the day you die. THANKS MS FOR SCREWING US CASUALS. I GIVE YOU A MID FINGER SALUTE.

Sell your system. YOU LOSE!! GOOD DAY SIR!!

I expect a price drop announcement in June at E3 2007. It'll probably drop $50.

The quality of the sound is slightly better with HDMI, but that's about it. The video was tested by expert between HDMI and Component cables and it was extremely hard to tell the difference. 1080p with HDMI & Component look exactly the same with the naked eye.

oh really. last time i checked, my hdmi was digital. unless all of sudden digtal signals suck then yah your reight. but in this case it doesnt. so if HDMI isnt important. then why is MS adding it now? OH I FORGOT THEY ARE LISTENING TO THEIR CUSTOMERS, that is the reason you lemmings came up with, so us casusal will be happy wiht our 360.  whats next ?

for all the ppl who denied the newer version 360. will you admit you have been owned?
