Not possible. Too close to release for such a hardware change. I'm sure they already have systems manufactured and ready to go. Such a change would force them to raise the price of the system as well.

Anything is possible. As noted Xbox 360 had a late upgrade in ram. In fact, if you remember the console only began production 69 days before launch. But I would say this rumor is not probable.
As a lot of people have aready said, this close to console launch it's not possible to change the hardware without losing a lot of money and likely even pushing the release date back. The most they ould probably do is raise the clock speed of the GPU or CPU a bit, but even with that, it would require a lot of testing with heating conditions etc... At this point it would just not be worth it to anyone.

I would wonder why on Earth a console would need 12GB, what are they going to do with that? Load the entire game into memory at once?!
Does give plenty of room to grow and lessens the need to release a new console in 5 to 6 years. Anyway, why does your rig need 12 gigs?I'm not the one with an XBone T-shirt avatar [QUOTE="I_can_haz"][QUOTE="XBOunity"]

Their backpedaling and 180ing may actually make me get their console, still getting the PS4 first but I may get BOTH when they first come out.

I need more than 12 gigs in my rig, try having 6 8k textures open in Photoshop, UDK open, 3DS Max Open, and a Mudbox file open with millions of polys and THEN tell me I wouldn't need 12GB.

Somebody is mad.... Relax man.
I know nothing of how long it takes them to make these consoles but surely with only 4 months before launch it's too late to upgrade anything inside the console? I might be wrong but it seems veery late in the day to be making changes like this. I don't think it's true but you never know.

Life's too short to get mad. You asked a question and I answered. :)
Ehhh, I doubt it without sources, but I could see a RAM bump. Their 3 OSes put them in a real deficit compared the competition in available RAM, and that's without getting into the menmory bandwith. Sure, it'd be really expensive to do this late, but I bet it's also cheaper to do than a price cut, and could be used as a talking point to justify that sticker price.
Paying with clockspeeds this close to launch seems borderline irresponsible. If they try, it tells me they are really afraid of their box getting outclassed by the competition... and sooner rather than later. Scared enough to risk another billion dollar hardware fiasco.
Bottom line is there are a lot of system engineers that should be looking for a job after this mess. Mattrick was lucky to get a cushy job while he could.
upclock's are possible.. that is going to happen? i doubt it and ram increase is not impossible either their dev kits support 16GB modules already. This rumor is fake unless they upgraded the xbox one's hardware before they started the manufacturing process.

In a rather defensive manner. ;)It's a cute rumor. Won't happen, a ton of people on here have already outlined why that would be.
For the person who stated that 360 had its RAM doubled last minute, understand that Xenon dev-kits already had 512 RAM, all MS did was make the dev kit allotment the retail manufacturing spec. And they did it because Epic strong-armed them into it, and even then Epic originally wanted 1 gig of ram, not 512.
Later Xenon dev kits ended up shipping with 1GB of RAM for development purposes.

I think that is overstating it a bit much, the Xbox One in its current state is a more than capable machine. Is it on par with the PS4 graphically? No, but the difference isnt going to be a dealbreaker in my opinion. I doubt an overclock, maybe a 50 clock uptick if anything, but doubt it, and the ram definitely not happening. Im sure 5 gigs will be enough for next gen, i really dont see that getting exceeded in 95 percent of the games. The Xbox one has other advantages other than hardware to make it a desired item. The only problem is the price, which I predict will come in line with PS4. I think many on this forum and elsewhere are way ahead of themselves deeming the XBO a failure at such an early stage.

Didn't they have like over a year before the console released as well? That might not be true but I'm sure MS had a lot more time to change the specs with the 360.

Why would they remove one of the few elements of the console that makes them different from the competition??? The kinect 2.0 is the awesome piece of tech the original kinect should have been. It remains to be seen how it will impact next gen but to remove it just because some people dont think its useful is silly. Its integrated with every console for a reason, its going to be integral to next gen.In my opinion what they should be doing right now is getting rid of the kinect in order to lower the price of the console

It should be removed because people like to have different choices, the fact they are forcing the kinect on you is bs. And the fact is there are many people who dont give sh*t about the kinect.

How do you come to the conculusion that it is the overwhelming majority? Even if everyone on here hated Kinect being included, which isn't the case anyway, it wouldn't be the overwhelming majority. Remember, Kinect is the reasons for 360 resurgance in many markets on top of the fact that 24+ million have bought one. Remember these forums are only a tiny fraction of the population. People tend to feel so strongly against kinect because knee jerk reactions are a thing of the interwebs.

To be fair. 24 million sales don't mean that all of those people liked Kinect either. I bought it and it quickly became an ornament. A lot of people don't like it or don't want to try it because of how poorly the current one was used, supported etc. The main issue with Kinect seems to be that it's pushing the price up above the PS4 and that's a deal breaker. If MS had not made in mandatory and given people the freedom to choose by releasing 2 bundles they could have made a lot of people happier.
I know they want Kinect as standard so that devs know everyone has one and can develop for it but we risk having it shoe horned onto so many games that don't necessarily need it. I don't want to shout orders for troops at my TV and I don't want to jump around like an idiot. I just want my console and my controller.

No it doesn't mean anything; one could argue that this would mean devs HAVE to intergrate the kinect into games one way or another, leading to half baked kinect funtionality.
Look at Kinect games sale, see what gamer gives a fvck about them? I see none.
Sony still hasn't fixed the issues with the PS3 but that's awesome. MS fixes every potential problem with the X1 like 4 months before launch but it's considered a disaster.
