No, that's *exactly* the problem, System Wars is not a "game". The mindset of treating this like a "game" encourages people to act out rolls - troll, fanboy, fakeboy, spammer, mobster, et cetera. Being a game is anathema to intelligent discussion - you can't have it both ways. If you want the intelligent discussion, then you have to create an environment that rewards intelligent discussion - as is the reward mechanism is on hype, outrageous claims, and poor posting.

As i said before, getting rid of fanboys, hype threads, flops, SW bets and all of that would make SW a boring place. SW was made for the fanboys. I really think you're maybe trying to make this a bigger GGD.

This is getting way out of hand. Sub, seriously man, try to remember when SW was at it's finest. When it was more active, when lvl 1's and 2's didn't spam the place and everyone had a good time and even good discussion. It was NOTHING like how you describe it.

People don't WANT seriousness and propper debate only. There IS a place for that and not many people go there. It's because they prefer to have a good time here, and the stricter it's becoming, the more downhill sw has gone. Making it even stricter and trying to force people to only post on topic and have a debate IS NOT WHAT THIS PLACE IS ABOUT, and it's gonna kill this place and will only encourage more trolling like the moderation fest has done now.

Don't do this, there is a reason why this board is more active than most of the forums, and thats what people want.

i got suspended for 7 days for failing to shorten my post because i had quoted a large amount of messages......the sad part is, the thread had died for weeks. A few weeks later after i had posted, i get a message saying that i was suspended for a topic that was dead long ago.

I appreciate the effort, but there are a few trolls / spammer here who have built a reputation on that, they're going to fight the hardest on the grounds of "freedom", when they themselves are most in conflict with the TOU. It's no secret why this stuff gets posted - I get grouped in with the mods and the TOU.

Equating "freedom" with being able to post porn, spam, troll, directly insult others, make vast stereotypes, racial comments, religious denouncements, et cetera is the highest form of idiocy. I appreciate the fight against it, but if you support SW reform a highly suggest not even acknowledging the existence of the dozen or so people who want things to remain as they are. The hypocrisy of saying "you're taking it too seriously" and then spending an hour and a half posting replies about something you "supposedly" think won't change anything is self-evident.

I'd rather the change happen in a positive way that reshapes SW into the debate form it needs to be (as Off-Topic will never be re-integrated into SW for obvious reasons) rather than a shapeless trash heap that it is becoming.

You don't need a poll... why not just read this thread? Proof is in the pudding. Even before I was here in GS and before Gerstgate happened there was a flop system enjoyed here for the most part. As example he wants to close SW Bets yet if we only wanna talk about facts it's probably the most or one of the most biggest thread ever in SW in terms of sheer posts alone.

But aside from that the system of flops and faction names and trolling has been going on since forever.

If he wants to get rid of that, that's fine. But why not start a different thread / forum? Why change ours cause he or certain people feel the need to? Why not have both?

Equating "freedom" with being able to post porn, spam, troll, directly insult others, make vast stereotypes, racial comments, religious denouncements, et cetera is the highest form of idiocy. I appreciate the fight against it, but if you support SW reform a highly suggest not even acknowledging the existence of the dozen or so people who want things to remain as they are. The hypocrisy of saying "you're taking it too seriously" and then spending an hour and a half posting replies about something you "supposedly" think won't change anything is self-evident.

If you truly believe that I was only siting at my desk and posting in this thread for an hour and a half so be it. The fact still remains that you are taking this matter very seriously and it shouldn't be taken seriously. It is a freaking videogame forum not a country or something.

General Games Discussion does not allow criticism of, or real comparison / debate regarding systems and platforms. It is - get this - for *general games discussion*. System Wars is the only official board on which discussion of platforms is fully allowed. Without a refinement, however, System Wars will find itself on the admin cutting block within a year or so, as it really has gone downhill to the point of losing its ability to justify is existence.

When you see System wars hurting the rest of the site, rather than being a containment area, it really doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Unfortunately we have a contingent of people who'd rather save their own pointless fighting over the greater good of an intelligent forum.

People here have already made up their minds as to which platform is the best which makes any possibility for reasonable debate near impossible. I say just let this place die out. It is already dead to me, maybe that is why I do not really care for the fate of this morass of endless and useless debate.

As much as I would support the type of revolution necessary bring about the change necessary to turn this place into a forum I would once again enjoy posting in, I think you're wasting your time. That ship has long since sailed and is now stranded somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle, never to be seen or heard from again.

Sad thing about all of this is, people fear change. Many members of this community seem content to just let things remain as they are, with rampant trolling, spamming and the ignorant masses screaming the words "LOL FLOP" every five seconds. I've tried to initiate my own reforms, none that were widely publicized (which may have been the reason for their downfall) but nothing has changed and System Wars, a forum I once loved continues its descent into the abyss.

I will support you in any way I can, but I fear that this will end up like all the others, Unsupported, unrecognized and forgotten before long. Your intentions are noble, and I can clearly see that you believe in this quite strongly, but I honestly don't think this community is ready for this.
