[QUOTE="sethman410"] Then, PC will continue to dominate as always.Nerkcon

pc gaming dominates? dominates what?

User created content. Community driven games. Free to play market. Most Asian markets. The strategy genre. The indie market. The flash gaming market. The social gaming market. The casual market. Simulator genre. Educational games. Typing games. And the piracy/illegal private gaming network underground.

You know you can play them other platfroms, do you? ^^'

[QUOTE="frostybanana"][QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"][QUOTE="frostybanana"] Again, that doesn't matter. If people believed everything they heard just because it came from a particular source, the world would be full of idiots. That's where it's important to take the information with a grain of salt. They are not providing evidence or sufficient support on this idea. This is based on their own personal speculation which is clouded by their own opinions and their own bias. Furthermore, they are not in control of the life span of consoles. They are game developers, not the people actually building the technology. So whatever ideas they have aren't important if the technology doesn't advance at the rate that they are predicting. And as I said, there is no way to predict how quickly it will advance. It is conjecture.

Their prediction/opinion on the matter still holds more weight than the average SW poster which is what I was saying in the first place.

Arguing about that is asinine. Neither hold any weight to begin with without hard evidence.

No, it isn't. Everyone makes prediction on a daily basis in the gaming industry, some people are payed to make predictions.

They play much much MUCH better on PC. :P I remember there was a website that made flash games for the Nintendo Wii and made for the Wii-mote, is that still around?

[QUOTE="Nerkcon"][QUOTE="Sushiglutton"][QUOTE="Nerkcon"] No one should want this, especially not PC gamers. No access to the game files means bye-bye custom user content, mods and community driven dedicated servers. :(

Miller doesn't predict onlive type cloud though. He says that we will be able to download games to all devices (TVs etc).

But how would you play them without hardware? :? Online works by streaming the entire game. Some console games were slowly starting to move towards user created content and moving to cloud will make that impossible!

Because he claims all TVs will have powerful enough hardware to run the latest games (I disagree btw. Don't think that's cost efficient)

[QUOTE="Sushiglutton"]Consoles dying will only happen if PC is able to absorb the casual players. So the dumbing down hermits dislike won't die with the consoles. I doubt developers will be able to take full advantage of high end hardware either due to cost. Hardware exclusives will go away though.skrat_01
The PC already has a huge percentage of the casual market - from Facebook to Flash - spanning huge demographics. What the PC doesn't have is a hardware (peripheral based) advantage. You'll find the trend on focusing on special input devices more common in the next few years; it's why companies like Microsoft say the Kinect is here to stay for the long run. As far as their business model is concerned it is, it's very important to their business survival.

When I'm saying casuals Im thinking of the middle segment. Those who play games that require "good" hardware, but don't want any trouble. Thing is with flash games that u never need to update hardware etc. You can play them on ur laptop. I'm not wording this so good, hope u get the meaning. Ur second point is very interesting, have to think about that some. U mean "consoles" (closed platform) can survive if they lock certain input devices to their system?

Yeah,I´ve seen it yesterday, good interview. And lol at those who know who Scott Miller is.

Arach666

Fix'd

I agree with him though. Something will have to take their place, but I think it will be an option between onlive services and hardware, so you need either a great connection or really really strong hardware. That way, an older desktop could run current game with a strong connection and newer PCs could also run these games.

I am interested in this idea that TVs will all become capable of running the latest games, but I'll believe it when I see it. Right now, games like Dance Central can't be played without a Kinect and an associated 360 console. And almost no one is going to want to play a game like Dance Central on their computer. Consoles will survive by emphasizing the advantages of "living room" gaming.

Link fixed.

And a little help to 10 years old players who doesn't know who Scott Miller is: "Miller started as game programmer, but now handles primary business duties of 3D Realms, as well as producing and co-designing all third-party games associated with the company, including Wolfenstein 3D, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Terminal Velocity, Max Payne and Prey."

And before saying anything, just watch the video. His vision on the future of consoles is very plausible. ;)

theuncharted34

10 year old players? are you serious? :?

when attempting to bash a system or consoles in general you should think your statements through.

Um...... How is he bashing a system? And which system is it that he is bashing?

Or what we'll see in the future is Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo mainly pushing for innovative peripherals and great accessories rather than creating consoles when the incentive to upgrade graphics and so forth will only continue to shrink. With the Wii 2 possibly being less powerful than its competition, it must mean that we are reaching a point where graphics don't matter as much as they did before, due to the fact that they will be polished enough, while also keeping the framerate as smooth as possible. Art style will be more emphasized than strictly going down the uncanny valley. Moore's Law is definitely going to be out of date after some time.

And that one set box will be a PC. Not necessary Windows-based PC, but a personal computer as a whole.

a PC developer says consoles will die? holy amazing!!!

More likely is that consoles will become more PC like and they'll be indistinguishable.

He also thinks scientists will discover immortality in his life time... But yeah, obviously time will come that you won't need a dedicated gaming box anymore, consoles will become services either something like Steam or Onlive.

Meh, just a bunch of guesses like all analyst do and most of the time those guys never make a good prediction, not because this guy has developed 1 or 2 decent games has more credibility.

Anything could happen in 20 years, who would have predicted apple would be such big players in the technology world even just 10 years ago before the first ipod was introduced? no one knew the iphone or android would release and be so big 5 years ago.

In the last 20 years the amount of advances in technology has been insane, to judge the future on current tech would be very wrong, platforms like steam would have been massive failures in the late 90's early 2000's before broadband became widespread.

I think cloud computing is going to be the major player, a lot of companies are implementing cloud features, and I'd imagine windows 9 or 10 in 5 or 6 years will have some heavy implementation of cloud features. technology is moving far more rapidly now, whereas we had vinyl for 100+ years and CD for 30 years now, we have had 2 new video formats dvd and bluray in the space of 10 years, and I wouldn't be surprised if in 2015 we will probably have something else.

I too think consoles only have two cycles left before changing radically again. Into what, I'm not sure.

Glad somebody in the industry could put this into words, although right now I'm more interested about what's going to happen when next gen consoles release than what will happen at the end of the 9th generation.

pretty much, but no one here will read this or believe it, next generation you will probably be able to do everything you can on the consoles as you can on the PC, which people are fine with because no one has a problem spending $600 everytime a new iphone comes out

Interview with Scott Miller in Matt Chat show. They also talks about Max Payne, Prey, Duke Nukem: Forever, 3D Realms and immortality.

Link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhPvXw4cZGc

What do you thing about it?

Considering Consoles adapting more and more PC gaming attributes ( online play , multimedia factions , online stores , hard drives , external devices , usb etc etc ) i see that coming too. When though i cant tell . Seems we got plenty of years for that.
