Alright kids, time to go back to school. Yesterday whilst talking about Chrono Trigger, one child stated that anything before the Xbox was horrible to even look at. Thus prompting this thread and teaching kids why the old systems paved the way and will always be better than today's systems. Not to mention some of the greatest soundtracks ever to come out of one speaker. I chose the Genesis because I love it and i just bought a new one this week.

Gunstar Heroes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXkGpGBmwsY

Dynamite Headdy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x01qwb2pwTY

Sonic 3 AND Knuckles (yeah thats right kids, you had to stack the cartridges on top of each other. Plus Doomsday Zone you rush through %#$%^% space!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUMl9gxxaBM

Golden Axe

Comix Zone

along with Rocket Knight Adventures

Toejam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron

And the Ultimate Tower (the genesis with 32x, game genie, S+K, and Sonic 3)

tl;dr

Respect your elders, kids

Post any more awesome genesis games!

The era of the Genesis and SNES was a rennaisance period for console gaming. :)

Shining Force and Shining Force II (coming soon) were the reason I got a wii. So I would say that genesis does have a good lineup but not the best. I'm not sure what the best is as I have never owned a console before the Wii, I just played a port of Shining Force on pc and since that quit working I had to get it on console.

i still think the NES is the most fun system ever. It's the only old system i kept and i still play regularly. But i liked the genesis as well. I don't know if it's because i'm getting older, or the games today aren't for me, but i've found myself playing less and less of the newer consoles and it's to a point where unless something changes (it may be just me so there might not be a change), i may be done with future consoles and just play my NES. Nothing like spending 30 minutes going through all the boxers in Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

The only genesis games I could play today are Streets of Rage 2, Gunstar heroes, Dynamite Heady, Ristar, and the sonic games. Everything else seems boring...

Genesis?

sneslover
Let's just say each had its ups and downs. The fourth generation was a very close one, with the SNES barely edging out the Genesis/MegaDrive overall, but Sega had nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, I'd say this was the peak of Sega's business as a hardware maker.

The SNES still edges out Genesis imo.

1. Chrono Trigger

2. Super Mario Kart

3. Super Mario World

4. Yoshi's Island

5. Super Mario RPG

6. Super Castlevania IV

7. ActRaiser

8. Secret of Mana

9. F-Zero

10. PilotWings

11. Final Fantasy IV, VI

12. Super Star Wars

13. Super Ghouls N Ghosts

14. Mega Man X, X2, X3

15. Axelay

16. Gradius III

17. Contra III

18. Zelda: A Link to the Past

19. Super Metroid

20. Earthbound

Also, SNES had far superior sound and better graphics. ActRaiser and Super Castlevania IV sound leagues better than any Genesis game. Also, imo the SNES controller was better.

With both games being totally different games and having nothing in common but the source material. :|

The Mega Drive Shadowrun is the best Shadowrun-based game yet made. and the closest it got to the pen and paper game. It was also one of the best RPGs of the generation.

Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing

My favorite Genesis game, and I'm not even really into boxing. I don't know why, but I just couldn't stop playing it.

I would probably still have it, if my Genesis wouldn't have broke.

Yes it was. I miss my Sega. I had the Sega CD and the Sega 32 X hooked up to mine. It was like heaven. I bought another Sega Genesis to chill with my Dreamcast, but I gotta buy a AC Adaptor for it because the one that came with it won't fit. Remembering makes me miss Sega even more.

God I loved SOnic 3 and Knuckles. It the only tiem we get to see Tails go super. Man do I miss them days.Though I loved the SNES far more. Though I did really love Sonic 3 and Knuckles verison. Tails at his prime before Sega killed him. The Genesis was Sega's best. But did not beat the SNES for me.

Well, I don' think the Mega Drive it's "leagues behind" specially with the Mega-CD. But the main reason for it is that the Mega Drive never took off in Japan as expected in it's original run (it did became more popular afterwards though), while the Saturn did. This translated into a much bigger support from Japanese companies.

The only thing is that most people know or at least have heard of a big amount of Mega Drive games, (not counting the Mega-CD though) while they ignore most of the Saturn library.

The only reason I use hyperbole is because there are countless amounts of people in both the real world (especially in North America) and on the internet who discredit the Saturn for having "no games" when in fact it is the exact opposite. It should be a crime to make such absurd claims about the Saturn.

If you were a sports game fan then you had a Genesis. Period, end of story. EA's NHL glory days with the blue ice, Madden, FiFA, etc.

Oh, and don't forget that the six button controller was probably the best controller ever.
