[QUOTE="kentaro22"]How about "no 3 rings of death type of problems" or "no external but internal power brick" How about a "Blu-ray player" that will most probably be the standad next-gen movie video disk? User replaceble Hard drive? 97% backwards compatibility (sorry for the europeans, but software emulation may be even better after a while).kentaro22

Blue Ray will not become a standard until they allow Porn on the format. And replacing the hard drive voids the warranty. Two things that it has definitely done wrong.

Wrong on both counts. Porn... That's what the internet is for, and eventually it will find the way to blu-ray if blu-ray wins (most probable) And exchanging the HD doesn't void the warranty. It's even on the manual!

You seriously believe that with larger HDDs coming and all three console makers pushing into the internet, with the success of services like Steam, that Digital distribution won't become the standard before Blu-Ray or HD-DVD?

  • The launch
Hurt it more than anything. Ebay sellers, robbings, etc.
Both of those are irrelavent. In the end, the consoles get to the consumers. And you can hardly blame the robberies on Sony.
  • Hype
Again, hurt the system, as it was not a supercomputer and did not blow the 360 away graphically like Sony claimed.
But it made the launch sell out. The PS3 launch was better than the 360 launch supply-wise, as well.
  • Resistance
Good game. Give you that.
  • Motorstorm
Not out yet, but solidly AA by most reviews.
I was referring mostly to the demo, as it showed the power of the PSN. But it will be a high quality game, and there's no denying that.
  • VF5
Good fighter, coming to 360 though and not really a "system seller".
No one game is a system seller, and exclusivity doesn't matter. If you own a PS3, you'll probably get VF5. And games are where Sony makes a profit.
  • Downloadable content and PS1 emulator
And PS2 BC, which Sony did well.
  • Free online play
Again, a good thing for Sony.
  • Multimedia features
Not as robust as the 360's PC linking,IMO, but far better than the Wii.
Xbox360 doesn't take 3 types of memory cards and offer compatibility with tons of Bluetooth and USB devices, though. And the PC linking is useless if you don't run Windows as your main OS.
  • The actual hardware (eg, cooling system)
Not sure what you mean, but it is a solid machine so far.
There aren't many defects and the fans are whisper quiet. And the hardware itself is very powerful.
  • Blu-ray movie playback (considered by many as the best BD player)
Best selling, maybe, but not the best. Home theater review sites have many others that top it in quality.
But not with the same value. $600 for a Blu-ray player is a fantastic deal.
  • Tried and true controller design
True
  • HDD standard
Does not make much difference from a gamin perspective. Makes development a bit trickier, but nothing really drastic here.
PC game devs use the hard drive constantly. It's not any harder for a console dev. Also, a standard HDD allows for mods and extra content for everyone, not just those who bought the "premium" edition.

Need I say more? That's more than what can be listed for the Wii or 360.
SpruceCaboose

I'd also like to add...
  • Ability to install a seperate OS on another partition
  • HDMI standard

So I guess, at least not for now.

HDMI is one standard. It fulfills the same functions as VGA, and both suffer from lack in color that is delivered from component cables anyway.
And OS on a system is useless. You can put Linux on a PSP or an Xbox. Does that make it good?
Seriously, Sony's launch was a disaster. Way too few units, horrible press, and quickly outpaced by the Wii. Its not hard to sell out a US launch with less than 400,000 units.
You said the PS3 was the best Blu-Ray player. Now you backed down. $600 for any movie player is a horrible deal. When DVD players were $600-$1000, that was a bad deal too. I'll wait for my HD disc player until they are more inline with current DVD player prices.
95% of the computers in the world run Windows. If you don't, you are heavily the minority.
VF5 is a fighting game. It does not appeal to the majority though. Many people who currently own a PS3 will buy it, not only for it being a high-quality title, but also because it is one of a few new PS3 games out right now that are good and the current PS3 owners are not the majority. They are the hardcore fans.
I am not bashing the PS3. But you are pushing for things that are not that great here.

China has the second largest penetration of internet users in the world, second only to the US and climbing fast.
The US is actually behind many other countries in offering free wifi internet as a governmental function.
Even if that was not the case, the major gaming markets for consoles are Japan, US, and Europe. All three have large numbers of high speed internet users and that number is growing fast. PSN, Xbox Live, the Wii VC. All are starting to test the water for downloadable content and smaller games. 5 years from now, I would heavily bet console games will be readily available to download, and DVD will still have marketshare.

Well for one its got every1 talking about it...even so called "lemmings" and "sheep"

Who in fact spend more time discussing Ps3's 'failure' (mere months from launch) and less time discussing the attraction of their own respective systems! :?

cheapness1

That's because the number of things wrong with the PS3 is greater than the number of both the good and bad things of both the 360 and Wii put together... :|

Seriously, I thought the PS3 would roll over the 360 and the Wii in sales. It hasn't, which says something about how great a pull name alone has on consumers.

Also, unless high speed intenet is at lest 70% or more of USA, JAPAN and EUROPE it still have disk based media. Also I don't think any big company want to alienate emerging economies. My crystal ball says that we won't have 80% of content being downloadable for at leat another 7 or more years.

mclazyj
BLU-RAY will be just fine, porn isn't as big a concern in format wars as it used to be (especially earlier on, porno is cheap for a reason...people don't pay hundreds of dollar just to have the ability to buy and play porno films), and it is most definitely on Blu-Ray, Vivid off the top of my head and other companies too. Lemmings just use that argument to distract from HD-DVD's sub-par studio support, the Blu-Ray turnaround is complete. [QUOTE="DrkLrdofSth"] Yea because Blue Ray players are just flying off the shelves? before making statements like that lets see you back that up with some sale numbers

Aside from Nelson Videoscan which reflects his (albeit immature) statement, try here.

In my eyes, the only reason Xbox360 games got perfect scores when it first launched is because they were the first freaking "next-gen" games of 2005... Now they're comparing Ps3s first launch titles to ones that have been out for months on the Xbox360..Iplancy

And that is a totally fair comparison, the PS3 has to be competitive right out of the gates. With all the delays and extra dev time they should be equal if not better than 360, especially cuz of price.

[QUOTE="DrkLrdofSth"] That gave sales numbers the dvds not the players...... you cant justify whether more blue ray players have been sold by dvds sold.... people that buy the blue ray prob have the more dough to buy more dvds

Stand-alone Blu-Ray players aren't exactly the most important thing, besides you asked for proof of Blu-Ray beating HD-DVD that is proof. You are looking at is kind of backwards, the videos draw the buyers, not the players....players attract addition videos (as you can see there, more are available) and that in turn attracts more buyers (once again, observe the sales rank differences). Any way you look at it right now Blu-Ray is killing HD-DVD and its a lot more meaningful than when HD-DVD was beating Blu-Ray because both formats have up somewhat of a head of steam now.

Can it? Yes. Has it so far, no. Lag is something all systems have. When more people get on PSN, you will get more lag. Trust me when I say that no game is immune from lag, just like no game is immune from cheaters.
Anyone who claims that any online game is free from lag, as of now, is lying or misled.

Blu-Ray is worth the price alone and it is considered one of the best if not the best player on the market so chalk 1 thing right for Sony. Oh and the online works so make that 2 things for sony. Free GTHD game, I consider that right. Why bash PS3, If you dont want it, dont buy it. But get over it already. I own both and they are both great systems.rockydog1111

Trust me, hdmi is USESLESS for games & Movies. I can BARELY tell the difference between SDTV games & HDTV games. It is NOT worth it and this whole hd thing so far is a waste of money & time.

The actual design of the system is what it does better than the 360,because

a,the powerbrick and blu-ray player is built in,where as with the 360 they are seperate therefore taking up more room.

b,the ps3 is quiet and looks better imo.

But it does everything else so wrong lol

They have a decent library of games. And a very reliable console. They didn't screw yp nearly as much as you think they did.

The PS3 has done one amazing, crazy-awesome feat of splendor that none of the other consoles can achieve: It grills stuff. Mmm-mm-mmm! Bar-be-cue... BAR-BE-CUE!!
