Set sail for Booty cause it's time to get hype for Sea of Thieves!

(Due to GS has terminated Kvally's contract and he was supposed to make the hype thread, I'm taking over since I am looking forward to SoT)

Sea of Thieves, MS new IP game and being developed by Rare and hey, we all been asking for new IP by MS right, so here it is.

• Platform: Xbox One/PC Windows 10
• Release Date: March 20

What do you actually do? (a common question) You basically gather a group of friends, get a Pirate ship, set sail through the seven seas, land on any islands to dig up for buried treasures, fight off other Pirates for there loot, and when not fighting or sailing, you can go to bars and have a drink with your mates.

Single Player or campaign? Nope, but you can do stuff on your own pace. This is basically a MP game. (hopefully in a good way)

Not much to say about Sea of Thieves other then the fact it is a new IP game from MS after all and I'll go with a 8/10 for trying something new and am I'm hype? Not really, but I am looking forward to see how it all plays & will be getting it on PC.

I expect this to be MS first 10 (first party) of this generation. I got to play a review copy and it is really damn good.

I would say 8/10....I played the beta for a little bit but the people I was teamed up with didn't speak English and I had no idea where they disappeared to and I wandered aimlessly and our boat sank lol.

The graphics looked cool ( even on the Xbox One S ) and this looks like it would be a good time with some mates that speak the same language.

I think the game looks great and a lot of fun. I’m expecting a very respectable 8/10 for this.

@tryit: nothing wrong with not getting the appeal. Might not just be a game for you.

Maybe worth looking on YouTube for a few videos to see what it’s about or read the OP.

there are a lot of ship battle focused games out there and what I found appear to be a lot better than this one.

Scores are irrelevant to me, I most referring to gamers' acceptance of the game. I see it being fad popular or trashed by gamers.

8/10 is a safe bet.

I get people not liking the art style. Most of them are just watching videos or streams. When you are actually the one playing it just works and it's great. I was not sure what to think at first either than I tried what little the showed in the beta, and joined up randoms and we had a blast! Lots of funny stuff and opportunities just happen.

I guess it will probably get 8/10 on most sites. True test will be how many are still playing in 3-6 months. But with the amount of updates they will be putting out should keep people coming back for more.

@Pedro: you never know. Who expected Fornite to be the biggest game on the planet this time last year.

SoT has a similar art style and people love pirates.

@boycie: I think sales are for sure a flop, only because it'll be on gamepass, which don't count for sales(right?). Gamepass subs will be up for a month or two though. I can't picture this game getting great reviews scores either... So a flop there too. They should have some cool weapons and bosses on different islands. So much more could be added to this game besides digging up treasure and fake drinking(the animation on that is horrible). Not sure if this game has a Rating yet, but I'm guessing it'll be at least 13+ because of the alcohol abuse part of it.

6/10 my prediction (for this site). 70/100 on metacritic.

both titles appear to be better games, I wonder why you have never heard of them

That sounds incredibly boring to me. It doesn't help that the graphics totally blow either. I predict a generous 6/10 so as not to piss off MS too much and stop them advertising.

@boycie: Yeah, I'm not sure how to define it either... My flop system goes like this: If a game is hyped like Sea of Theives and scores less than a 70 on metacritic, it's a flop as far as the game goes. I don't really look at sales for flops. I like too many niche games that would be considered flops. Another example, God of War... If it gets a 7 or below here or a 70/100 or below on metacritic, it's considered a flop to me. Not sure crackdown is hyped anymore, so it'll be hard to say that's a flop, even if it gets a 6/10. I guess flop is an individual thing.

One thing I forgot to mention here. For being an only MP game focus, (despite you can go at it alone on your own) pricing it $60 is a lot to ask for which I can see this becoming an issue, but it another way, Sea of Thieves will be available through Xbox Game Pass thus not spending so much money for $60 vs when it's on Game Pass for little. This is just my opinion, your better off just playing SoT on Game Pass which would be a better choice due to the game lacking a true single player experience.

I be really surprise if MS can score a 10/10. But then again, the lack of any true single player might hurt the score however.

I mean as a game it sounds like it could be fun

but as 'the second coming of Christ of games' it seems to be lacking

I'm gonna guess a 7/10 from GS. If people like the game that's great, but I honestly don't see the appeal to it? It just looks and sounds boring to me.

So in your opinion every MMO is like this. You do know they are going to keep adding stuff over the months.

No, not every MMO. Just this. watched it played on Twitch for a few hours. What is there to achieve? where is the challenge? what happens when the novelty of sailing wares off? (as its just filler).

The combat has no depth.

What is there to be excited about? beyond the novelty.

I mean some MMO's have this game INSIDE them.

more the marketing dollars spent the more likely the game doesn't have depth.

It has goals like trying to be legendary. I am sure Rare is planning to put in other areas and quests to keep the game going over the next few months like most MMOs.

No, he's talking about Sea of Thieves being similar to No Man's Sky in a way. To be honest, I was one of the few who actually enjoy No Man's Sky when it launch, but I'm positive Sea of Thieves won't make the same mistake when No Man's Sky launch when it was over hyped but Sea of Thieves is hardly getting any hype. (well not yet at least)

Yeah I can see the hype but Rare has been truthful for what Sea of Thieves is all about.

7/10 but it will have a huge audience and be quite popular.
