PSA... A few new features already....
"The first of them is the Merchant Alliance, which is a faction that tasks players with capturing animals in exchange for rewards. Another new feature being tested in the beta is Skeleton Forts, which creates the opportunity for forts in the world to be occupied by skeletons. These special forts offer greater rewards for those who clear them out, but they're signified by large clouds hovering above them that are visible to all players. Naturally, this means you may have to battle other players as well as skeletons for riches."
That all sounds pretty fantastic actually. Especially the fortresses.
Reminds me of WoW's Gurubashi Arena where you would battle other players for the loot that showed up at specific times.
Ironically, Stranglethorn Vale also had a pirate theme. Man, the nostalgia.
Yeah man, I can't comment too much on what all there is to do in SoT since I never played in the betas but I'm betting that folks saying there's not going to be a lot to do and it'll get boring fast are dead wrong.
We shall see soon. :)
Well you know I have been on it since feb 2017. It has blossomed into a really wonderful world.
If you lack imagination, sense of humor, teamwork capabilities, friends, can only take gaming seriously, need a waifu then it isn't for you as a gamer. Play single player with your pee pee.
The rest of us will be laughing and sailing and having a blast.
"You basically gather a group of friends, get a Pirate ship, set sail through the seven seas, land on any islands to dig up for buried treasures, fight off other Pirates for there loot, and when not fighting or sailing, you can go to bars and have a drink with your mates".
That sounds incredibly boring to me. It doesn't help that the graphics totally blow either. I predict a generous 6/10 so as not to piss off MS too much and stop them advertising.
I think the game looks amazing. its like playing a Disney pixar movie
Yeah if the Pixar artists were all drunk before they started and briefed to make the game look like it should have come out on the 360. The game is ugly dude. Even boosting the res with those low res textures is the classic equivalent of turd polishing.
I don't agree. and pretty much everyone else I know who has played the game seems to think it looks great. the water and lighting in particular.
so yea, feel free to not like it, just saying not everyone (dare I say most people) don't agree with you

Yes sir, I know you've been playing for quite a while and same with my son, you both have about the same take on the game. My son tells me I'm gonna love it. I'm pumped and tomorrow is D-day erm eh, P-day (Pirate day) baby!!! :D
@with_teeth26:
That is one Salty dog when it comes to anything MS/Xbox and you can tell SoT has'em shook to the core. lol :P
@SecretPolice: Pretty sure we're on each other's Xbox friends list, I remember playing Halo 5 with you a few years ago. It will be a blast.

Yeah man, that was a blast from what I remember. I've got to let up on all that Makers Mark. lol I rarely go online these days but SoT, we'll have to get together on that one mah man. I'll need you to show me the ropes. Perhaps you me and my son and others sailing the big blue.
Actually, it's about that time of year when I'm getting the bug to get my own big boat out of storage and hit the high seas, erm well, great lakes that is. lol :D
Digital Foundry's take on the graphics:
It looks really good actually, don`t be fooled by it`s cartoon-y style, it uses new unreal engine features.
I think it'll be a fun game, at least something a little different in theme and style. Blasting yourself out of canons and forming a pirate crew with different players could be fun!
I might eventually get it, and I like that it is a new MS IP, but I'm still more hype for Crackdown 3. Might be in the minority there, but anyway would still like to give SoT a go.
I'm hoping it gets a 9, but I'm not really expecting it. I'll say a solid 8 for its fun mp with friends.

Fortnite, Minecraft, etc etc. I think playful and imagine art styles are proving time and again they will destroy the realistic dark styles any day of the week. Sea of Thieves chose wisely and will be rewarded for it. Yeah, it looks a little funky, but it stands out and makes it all the more fun to play.
Still no reviews? Lol, wonder why the embargo is so late... I wonder... flop of thieves.
yea given the online nature of the game, journalists aren't getting access to it before everyone else.
it wouldn't be a representative experience pre-launch anyways since running into other players is a big part of the experience and there wouldn't be enough people playing to consistently populate the servers
so, expect rushed reviews after a few days, and more thorough reviews a few days after that
Still no reviews? Lol, wonder why the embargo is so late... I wonder... flop of thieves.
Most reviewers won't have access to the game until the MP goes live whenever the game is officially release when it comes to MP games only. Division, Destiny/2, and even Overwatch didn't get reviewed until after those games release.
I'm not really worry about the reviews anyways, for me personally. I done my own analysis telling me Sea of Thieves is a winner for me.

Isn't that the most important thing? :)
I hoping a 9/10.
But I think it all comes down to how much content there is in the game. I didn't play the beta or check out the previews, so I'm not sure what the feedback has been like so far. If it's light on content, it may drop as low as 7. If it's full of content, 9/10. Then 8/10 for something in between.
In defense of Sea of Thieves not every game needs to last us months. I would be happy if I got 2-3 weeks of a good time out of it.
*Drinks hot Tea in the morning and begins to give out opinion on SoT*
After spending time with SoT early this morning, here's my opinion on the game. Played about 2+ hours solo & randoms, I found 4 treasure chest, gun powder, and some box of goods that gave me a lot of gold. I sank a large ship and it's crew. They were gunning right for me and I hit them once and they crashed into a rock. Word of advice, don't try doing everything on your own. I gotta say, it's No Man's Sky with a MP but in a good way and I happen to enjoy No Man's Sky to this day, so there's that.
If you love AC: Black Flag and want to play a charming Pirate game, this is it right here. Bare in mind this is a "Rare" game who we all love from the good old days on Nintendo platform, don't go expecting much.

The nature of the game allows everyone to create their own stories. That's why PUBG and BOTW became so popular. That's a good sign for SoT longevity.
Forgot to raise the masts after disembarking. A storm just took my ship away. That's a lesson learned the hard way.
It's cool that that can happen. So, how do you get your ship back? Did you go swim after it?

There's a guy that pops up when you're near the sea or in it, and he spawns you back on your ship. But by then, my ship had already sustained damage from the storm, which I didn't know, because I didn't check below deck, so I dropped anchor somewhere safe, lifted the masts, and went exploring. But I turned back because I forgot to reload my ammo, but then I noticed my ship was sinking. The damage had caused water to come in, flooding the place below deck, but I didn't notice. And it completely went down right after I stepped ashore.
Really learning lessons the hard way. But it's cool.
I'm having a great time, just taking it slow exploring on my own for now, the very first game I got ambushed by another solo player and after a long drawn out battle in the sea, he got me good....was very cool overall.
Anyways, as far as the progression goes there seems to be quite a bit to do in each of the 3 factions, lot of locked quests that should take me a while to go through I presume. I like how it just feels like a different game, playing it with headphones is great, relaxing....neat little details and as long as they keep supporting it with new stuff I think it should do fine.
Lot of expensive cosmetics to unlock as well, don't know what purpose they have other than bragging rights & customization but there is lots of stuff to unlock from what I can see. Looks amazing on the X with HDR, my only complaint is sometimes I can notice minor screen tearing, but I love the look overall, to me this game is a looker.
7/10.
Thats my personal score at this point. I still say GS goes 6/10 or lower.
Everyone on the SoT forums liked my idea of a CPU faction, Royal Navy. It would add so much more excitement, urgency and tactical choices. Sucks Rare never took that feedback.
This forum is SP game heavy people so this is in no way for many here and I said as much in PMs to @charizaard1605 back during the alpha. However I won't just cheerlead and say "Yay Xbox this is great!!" because its not.
Ive been watching a lot videos and streams and it seems to seriously lack content.. They didnt even bother to give the Kraken a body.. its just tentacles sticking out of the water and they turn the water darker to try to mask it lol.. what has Rare been doing for the last 4 years?
Wanted to at least try it, can't even DL it from the Windows store due to whatever server issues they're having. So much for the infallible XBL.
Sea of Lost Hopes/No Mans Sea
Love the graphics, the sailing is amazing and the storm system is 2nd to none but when you release a $60 that has less content than a mobile game you're *****, kinda sad Verminetide 2 has more content with a smaller studio and is $30.
What have I been saying?...
I was extremely hype for this game since it was announced and I saw the RARE logo... I signed up to the site day one to get a Alpha key and since the Alpha I have not given the slightest f*** about this game. Its only fun when you and your friends are on messing about, there is a lack of actual content no real story, no character progression and it just feels empty and boring if you play alone.
Oh well the captain hype a game's will always be the first to shut you down when you have a opinion but when the opinion is shared they are no where to be seen.
@xantufrog:
Way to go my friend. My goodness, these folks are about as insecure as it gets. They've talked about MS/Xbox and SoT 1000X more than Xbox gamers themselves. Embarrassing to say the least. lol
This is great. SoT may be the least handholding game in my life, for better or worse.... It's a blank canvas for pure gamers and likely not casual gamer friendly.

I didn't even notice the sticky until I enter SW now lol. I admit, I underestimate SoT to be such a hot topic out of nowhere and this isn't even a AAA MS game to begin with.
My reaction:
I dont know why people are shocked and surprised by this.
Something like this happens every single year.
You have to look at the ACTUAL gameplay they show you with the sound off and ignore all the circle jerking interviews and just see what they show.
because 10 times out of 10 hyper hype games are never as deep as people think given the marketing.
@tryit: coming from someone who has never even heard of the uncharted franchise how on earth do you know this.
@tryit: coming from someone who has never even heard of the uncharted franchise how on earth do you know this.
because I am smart and highly observational and looking in from the outside.
are you willing to make the assertion that what I said is untrue?
and just for reference, I tried to tell people about NMS for a full year before it came out. I said, if you look at the game play its not that compelling and there is actually better options already on the market.
turns out i was right
@tryit: Yes. I’m going to go out on a limb and state that 10/10 of all games from AAA publishers are not as shallow as you make out.
Depth is such a vague and nebulous term. What one person considers depth might not be to some else.
I think you have a superiority complex and have convinced yourself that the games you play are better than the games other people play and are somehow superior because of this.
