2. you do not need to play the game to know if a game allows for only 4 players vs 30 or not. you do not need to play the game to know if the game allows you to repair your boat in combat or not. you dont need to play the game to know if its cartoon graphics or not, you dont need to play the game to know if the game has a cash shop or not, you dont need to play the game to know how long a match is, if it has match, you dont need to play the game to know if it has crafting, if you can build, you dont need to play the game to get a VERY good idea on what the game is like

Having an idea of what the game is like is completely different from knowing how good the game is.

Give you an example, Dark Souls. Some of the most widely praised aspects are the challenging combat and rewarding feeling when you overcome a challenge. Neither can be understood by watching videos. Someone judging Dark Souls by simply watching it on youtube would do themselves a great disservice and would NOT he qualified to give their opinion about the game.

and in fact I know the fact you just shared because...I saw it done and described to me in a video. So I have known for sometime now that Dark Souls is not easy combat to win. its not complex, its just not forgiving on a mistake.

I can look at somebody speedrunning and be impressed. If I do it it’s gonna be and feel completely different. You cannot feel the reward of defeating a boss if you weren’t the one who struggled against it in the first place.

Playing Dark Souls and watching somebody play it are not remotely the same thing. It’s an interactive medium first and foremost, you cannot take out the interactive part and rightfully claim you are qualified to judge the game.

by your logic I do NOT know this until I try it, meaning you explaining it to me is a waste of time.

reality is, one CAN take information from multiple sources including a person playing the game and saying out loud 'this game had challenging combat and here is why' and those words hit my ears and into my brain and now I know it.

The water in that early access game is no where near as good as the water in SoT.

Lots of clipping issues in Black Wake too.

the water bit I think is artisitc preference I think the entire look and feel of SoT is lazy and boring, I much prefer the water and overall atmosphere of Dark Wake.

That said, its not why I consider it much better. I consider it much better because of the combat difference overall.

nobody can say anything about anything without having experienced it first hand AND if they tell someone about what they experienced in a video game the person hearing it can not aquire that understanding because they haven't played the game so everyone just sits and stairs at each other not saying anything.

Given the game's four year development span, I'd even say that the score GS gave it is generous. What the f*** were they doing with all of that time?

And people here think Kojima wastes time and money - what a joke. He makes great games. Sea of Thieves looks more like a hype machine to generate day 1 sales.

No idea what they have been doing in the 4 years. The beta was reminiscent of Fable Legends but unlike Fable Legends, the gameplay was closer to final. We shall see if the game ripens over time.

@Pedro: They better add content for free! Bosses, more enemies, ships, weapons, etc.

My guess is that down the line, they will release a "Complete edition" with all of this for maybe 40 bucks - and it will be how the game should have initially released. I'll wait till then.

MLB 18 just got a 9 on the same day too.

They can't set up cash shops for a game that is lacking content. If they do then they haven't learn from Fable Legends which had all of the cash shop features in place despite the rest of the game being sluggish and incomplete.

I don't see them charging for additional content for a while. That transition would only make sense when the game is trending like PUBG and Fortnite.

of course they 'can' doesnt have to be smart for it to be possible.

anyway, what I am getting at is that much of the 'future content' is already created, they just dont put it on line yet and part of that content is likely cash shops

developers create the content ahead of time, its likely already done. they just are not showing it to the audience yet.
