There is plenty wrong with a steady 30fps. Destiny was painful for me when I played it on my PS4. Destiny 2 on PC plays way better. Even though the sequel was a rehash of the first game, it felt like a whole new game on PC just because of the superior performance and precision controls.

Exactlty. Tons of 30 FPS games are amogat the best games ever released. If they were unplayable they’d be docked accordingly in reviews.

A GTX 1070 can play at or near 60 fps, going with High settings and probably even Ultra for the textures, all while running in 4K at native resolution, not having to resort to checkerboard upscaling as a crutch. Even a GTX 1060 can play in native 4K, just a matter of settings for maintaining above 30 fps.

Remember the Xbox One X was going to be equivalent to a 1080.

No offense to you spending your money on Atmos, but I would greatly like more fps, higher resolution, and better graphical detail in a game than Atmos and HDR. If the game doesn't look at good, runs on low fps (which is horrible once you get use to more), who cares what it sounds like.

Here's the breakdown, frame rates in averages;

Cars3 - 45 fps (Ultra)
GTAV - 45 fps (Ultra)
PUBG - 35 fps (Med)
MEA - 25 fps avg (Med)
Witcher 3 - 35 fps (High)
Dirt 3 - 45 fps (Ultra/High)
Farcry Primal - 30 fps (Normal = med?)
Fallout 4 - 35 fps (High)

And that's with a GTX 1060, not even a 1070 or 1080. The worse case scenario being Mafia 3 that had to go to low settings, and just 3 out of those games at Med settings. All others being able to hit their benchmarks with High or better, and in ALL cases at native 4K, not fakes in checkerboard.

I would refuse to review a game at 30fps unless it was a console exclusive and I had no other choice. Reviewers should always ask for PC review copies. :)

LOL. Games on X1X (or any console) aren't capped at 30 fps for "smoother frame rates", they'll still have their minimums same as any other game. That frame cap is because aiming for a higher target is just too damn hard. They know it, they just don't want to admit it. Being limited to 30 fps is already bad enough, dropping below that is anything but "smooth or consistent".

And you can just see in the video yourself; for those games that were in the 45 fps average, they rarely went lower than 32 fps. The games that had a 30ish average (far fewer of them) would occasionally drop below 25. It doesn't matter if comparing averages or minimums, more games with a GTX 1060 (to say nothing of the 1070 and 1080) the minimums are still above the X1X limit.

You don't want to compare averages because you know (much as you'll try and deny it) X1X can't match even a GTX 1060, and trying to rely on minimums is a failed attempt to move the goal posts.

With Far Cry 5, X1X minimum frame rates are equal to a 1070 FE at X1X Settings

Far Cry 5 with a 1060 and X1X Settings gets around 23 FPS 5% minimums, that’s horrible and a Far Cry from the locked 30 FPS X1X is achieving

If he would really rather have Atmos and HDR than higher frame rates, higher resolutions, and better graphical detail, than there is no winning him over. He sounds like he is just trying to rationalize his atmos purchase as none of us really care about it. And it is funny that he can't even fully use this OLED TV thanks to the One X.
