It'll be checkerboard 4K, and still highly skeptical about that 60 fps. It may not be capped at 30 fps, but reaching 60, even with the 4K being interpolated will be a hellish task for the X1X. If they're smart they'll do what they're already doing with most other games. Offer the 2 modes; 4K/30 (or limited performance) and the 1080p/60 option.
I don't see why some people are doubting this, I think this is entirely doable building a game from the ground up with considerable time between its release, versus patching an older game on newer hardware. That being said, I wonder still if they're going to be pushing for a balanced mode with a lower framerate and greater visual fidelity like they already did on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X

In a statement provided to us, Square Enix said the following.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider will not run 60 FPS while in 4K. To allow for a more customized gameplay experience, the game will include two visual modes: '4K Resolution' which runs in 4K resolution at 30 FPS, and 'High Resolution' which is targeting 1080p at 60 FPS. Both modes will feature a wide variety of additional enhancements such as HDR, improved physically-based rendering, hardware tessellation, anisotropic filtering, additional dynamic foliage, and more.

with Far Cry 5, and some other games, X1X is getting GTX 1070 performance.
do you own Far Cry 5? I bet your 980 Ti gets minimum frame rates around 31 FPS at X1X Settings and 4K. Especially at reference speeds

If you care about a quality experience, you lower resolution and settings to at least maintain a solid 60fps. Unfortunately, you do not have that option on X1X because of the shit CPU bottleneck. LOL

@BassMan: Nothing wrong with a nice steady 30fps. Destiny (hate it or love it) proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can have great and fast gameplay at 30fps as long as it's a solid 30fps. Now is 60fps better, of course, but this act that 30fps is unayable or whatever is boring me to death.
