If you don't understand the concept of copyright law then this discussion is pointless.

tenaka2

Copyright law clearly doesn't apply to preowned sales, if it did it would be illegal to buy games preowned, it isn't.

It is still infringment of copyright law.

But we are still moving away from the point, which is about profits going to the wrong place. Places like Gamestop are leeching from the games industry and personally I think its fine for MS and Sony so limit or remove preowned games. Sure a lot of people would complain but if 1 game is being resold 4 times then they would only need half that number to still make more money then they currently are.

It just amazes me how naive people get.... Have you ever once heard of RENTALS.... If I want to bring a game over to a friend's house, you think it is MS/Sony's right to say I cannot? It is sad that there are so many people who just will abide by anything MS/Sony does

And again. It's not the 5.00 copy of Shadowrun that is making the industry react this way. It's the millions of people who use Gamestop as an overpriced rental service for new titles. They have no understanding of the value of money and gamestop rapes them by exploiting their impulsive habits. They are ruining it for everybody.

Well for starters if a game is being resold 4 times it's probably ***** and that's the developers fault for making a crappy game, you're also running under the assumed conclusion all 4 people would have bought that game new if they couldn't find it used, Gamestop is just a retailer and like it or not has made money for publishers, if they didn't do you think publishers would allow Gamestop to sell their product? If MS and Sony want to limit or remove preowned games than they might as say " That's ok Nintendo you can have this round we'll just go off and make Big TV's and Windows 8" I haven't bought a Nintendo console for myself since the **** box that was the N64 and I buy the majority of my games new but if MS and Sony want to **** with my rights it will be the quickest trip since Mary Decker.

Than it t sounds like they need to do some consumer awareness and education, not piss off 70% of their consumers.

But unfortunatly it works for them because the last numbers I saw showed that the used market brings them in almost 2 billion dollars a year.

The industry in its current state will simply damage itself if they do. I don't buy used unless I can't find new so I won't mind. But really, used is a way for games with no retail future otherwise to find a new audience so I don't see killing it as positive. I would also say that hey, hate Gamestop all you want but every publisher is in bed with them in terms of marketing and deals so its not like its a one way exploitive deal.
