Honestly jRPG's have been far supassed years ago. I do agree that FF is the best that Japan has to offer and yes FF13 looks pretty sweet. It's still small potatoes to what the good ol US OF A puts out these days.

The amount of bad scores for Jrpg's is much worse then WRPG's

It sad because jrpgs really have gotten worse over the years. Use to be my favorite genre.

I disagree completely with developers like ATLUS and SquareEnix JRPGs still get the crown for me. I'm not saying that WRPGs are bad but they are never going to interest me the same way JRPGs do.

Really? I find a lot of WRPGs to be really boring, doubly so for any Elder Scrolls game.

Mass Effect was awesome, but it alone can't hold up the entire genre.

Both are bad. JRPG's haven't moved forward, and despite still being better than modern JRPG's, WRPG's have gone backwards.

I'm in RPGs for the story, mostly, and interesting combat mechanic second. I don't particularly care much for expansive open worlds, so i still prefer JRPGs. I'm not saying WRPGs are bad by any means, but I find that they get rather boring. Sidequests are usually fetching things or killing a target, and combat is a pretty standard affair of hitting or shooting things. Sure, you can make that argument for JRPGs too, but the main focus is the main quest, and innovative combat mechanics can give games a strategic twist.

Again, I don't dislike the WRPG genre. In fact, I enjoyed the hell out of Oblivion. But I really don't see it ranking as high as something like Persona 3 and 4.

FFX and FF7 (which I played AFTER FFX) were amazing experiences for me so no. FF13 is going to drop a turd on all other RPGs. It won't do everything amazing, but I'm sure it will be dam close..

The majority of people who dislike jrpgs seem to play one final fantasy game, and believe all jrpgs are like that.. Other then Oblivion wrpgs have always lacked any memorable experiences. I don't doubt that considering we're in a western forum that wrpgs will get more support, but they all seem like action games rather then rpgs (the action is why the west likes them?).

WRPGs tend to have much more replay value than JRPGs. You can keep on playing the KOTOR games over and over, as well as Mass Effect, to get a different experience each time. With JRPGs it's much more linear and boring.. And, of course, WoW is an RPG that you can basically play forever.

Games like Disgaea have some of the highest replay value I've ever seen. Not all JRPGS force you to continue onto the next part of the storyline also.

It depends on why you play RPGs. If you want unlimited freedom and customization options, u go for WRPG. If you want a focused story with emphasis on character development then JRPGs are the best. I hate WRPGs personally, they are devoid of emotions and very soulless. JRPGs mostly have great music as well that contributes to a lot of the emotions in the game. So saying WRPGs is better is meaningless because the two genres are VERY different and appeal to different people

It matters what type of JRPG you play also, a lot of tactical rpgs are rich in customization.. Leveling up to 9999, being able to restart back to 1 to get higher stats, raise your items level, raise your spells level, raise your special attacks level, raise how powerful your special attack is, raise how strong the monsters your fighting are, restart from level one and choose a different version of the same class for higher stats, etc. (all examples from Disgaea)
