Halo2. Aside from the first and last levels, half-life2 is terrible.

I also liked the story more in halo2.

Half-Life 2 is way better than Halo 2. Halo 2 was a disappointment for me whereas HL2's campaign was incredible. Yeah it i not perfect but the atmosphere, level design and storytelling is way above Halo 2's singleplayer.

Seabas989

level design? really? you mean that walking around with no weapons for 40 minutes is good level design? please.

and atmosphere wise, HL2 had those incredibly annoying loading pauses. In halo 2 the game doesn't even stop. It just says Loading...done. HL2 takes at least 30 seconds, and it really brakes the pacing

Not really a big fan of the series, but I had way too much fun with Halo 2s multiplayer... couldnt even tell you what the story was about though. Half Life 2 was the more memorable experience, but Halo 2 delivered on the hours.

It really is kind of late for voting at this point. It's practically irrelevant this far into the topic. But whatever, atleast it's there now for me to exercise my rights and click away. :P

Also about level design, I found the long streches of road/water for the driving portions in HL2 to be a comeplete joke. I was very, very bored, especiallywith the buggy portion. I know Valve was trying to address that the world of HL2 was pretty big, but it was done poorly to the point where it felt like lazy level design.

I found HL2 rather boring except for the zombie like section and the final part(with the super gravity gun).

So Halo 2, i guess

It was fun to control, but driving in the damn thing for a good twenty-thrity minutesis not fun, especially when the level design is dull.

I probably won't attempt to ever finish the game because of it. Half Life 2 isn't anything special in my opinion anyway.

Half Life 2 was a major dissapointment. Considering all the praise it gets here and all the game has is... good textures.

That's just not a very fair statement. I think it is a tad overrated, but don't countless developer list it as inspriation? Chances are that your favorite games are derived from half life in some form or another.

Half Life 1? HL1 is the single game that evolved the genre beyond Doom, and every single FPS that tries to be modern, is a HL clone.

Now if you were talking about HL2, ignore what i said, i don't really like that game.. its boring..

I'm not necessarily referring to shooters. Gamers seem to have a higher demand for physics, etc. Didn't HL2 start the whole advanced physics thing? I could be wrong, but thats where I remember reading about it.

I'd say Halo 2, it has/had some of the best multiplayer on consoles.

HL2. Gorgeous visuals for its time, great SP and was a thrill-ride all the way through. I got bored half-way through Halo 2.

replayability? definitely not. the atmosphere is gone the second time, and thats the only thing going for HL2

Multiplayer? you mean HL2 deathmatch  it was horrible.

No,not HL2 DM but Counter Strike Source, the MP component of Half Life 2 when it released retail.

It came on the package back in the day so technically, that was the MP of HL2.

i thought the topic was Halo 2 vs Half-life 2

not Halo 2 vs Half-life 2 plus Counter strike

that makes no sense at all. no it wasn't part of HL2. by that logic Team fortress 2 is also part of HL2 since they both came in the orange box.

CSS came with HL2 when the game came out,it was it´s MP component,it doesn´t need to come in the same disk and have the same name to be part of it.

It´s the same thing with Crysis Wars and Warhead.

no. that means that since i bought the halo pack, halo 2 has a huge amount of maps, and CEs campaign and maps. so halo pack>everything else.

When you enter HL2s main menu, do you get an option saying "Multiplayer?" yes, and it brings you to deathmatch. when you google, HL2 MP, it gives you deathmatch.

no, Counter strike is not part of HL. they were simply bundled toghether

Sure they were, because CSS could also be aquired separatedly. Whatever excuse you want to use,go for it. The truth is that HL2 was reviewed with CSS as being it´s MP,stated by the reviewer himself. It´s the MP of HL2,period.

Sounds more of a slip of tongue to me, then what the difference between this and the halo2/fable bundle even though the reviewer didnt mention this? And i dont care about wether the reviewer said it or not, what is the difference?

You say it with such finality. But it is its own game regardless of what a reviewer says. It is available for purchase separately right? Can I purchase Halo's multiplayer without the singleplayer component? No.

Counter Strike Source is not HL2's multiplayer. HL Deathmatch is the multiplayer. Period.

Sure they were, because CSS could also be aquired separatedly. Whatever excuse you want to use,go for it. The truth is that HL2 was reviewed with CSS as being it´s MP,stated by the reviewer himself. It´s the MP of HL2,period.

Period.

ODST included Halo 3's multiplayer experience, but you coudln't call that ODST's multiplayer. HL2 was given a multiplayer component later on, and it was weak.

Halo 2. Half-Life 2 was overrated then and it's even more overrated now.

How I felt then, pretty much how I feel now.

Half life 2 was overated and so was halo 2 *though I loved the single player in halo 2 regardless of what people say* but it would still have to go to halo 2...Atleast halo 2 played on the original xbox...half life 2's big thing when it was first released were the reports of the multitude of systems that wouldn't run it acceptably it was back then a serious pc resource hog.

[QUOTE="Sandvichman"][QUOTE="Arach666"] Have fun. Look at 3:08 if you´re in a hurry.

Just like ODST multiplayer was the halo 3 multiplayer and the reach beta because they were included. What the hell.

So that´s the rule,eh? Available to purchase separatedly?

So by your logic,CSS is not HL2 MP because it can be aquired separatedly, but Half Life 2: Deathmatch, another one that can be purchased separatedly,is?

Splendid logic.

I apologize, I was wrong. It is legitimate. Know that in 2004 I didn't have a gaming PC of my own, I played Half-Life 2 on my uncle's PC. I bought The Orange Box later in 2007 for my 360 and didn't have a gaming PC until 2010. At that point I had played HL2 on two platforms so there was little reason for me to buy it again for my current PC.

When I hear Half-Life 2: Deathmatch I assumed it was a part of the PC version of Half-Life 2. I was wrong.

Half-Life 2 DOES NOT HAVE MULTIPLAYER THEN. Counter Strike Source is not it, HL2: Deathmatch was apparently released in 2006 and I was unaware of that fact. I apologize for acting like it was a part of HL2. But Source is not HL2's multiplayer.

EDIT- That same review you mentioned to the user laments the fact that HL2 doesn't have its own multiplayer.

Therer´s nothing to apologise for. I only mention CSS as the MP component of HL2 simply because when I got the game when it came out(retail),CSS came with the game as it´s MP component, and steam back then was advertising it as the HL2 MP(it was the biggest release ever on steam at the time),and so did the reviewers back then.

No,he says that it would have been nice to see a MP that used the settings and weapons of the SP campaign. ;)

Ah whatever. To each their own.

When I talk of Half-Life 2 I only talk of HL2, not of CS: S.

The same goes for Halo 3: ODST. I only talk of what came on the ODST disc, the Halo 3 multiplayer doesn't count for me despite being on a second disc in the same package. Just different ways of thinking I guess.

Well I never said he lamented it enough to knock the game down. It's clearly a very positive review. (as it should be, HL2 is a good game, it just doesn't have multiplayer of its own. :P)

Notice that in the xbox reviews(not just GS) of HL2 how the fact that there´s only the SP in that version was a bit disapointing, unlike the PC version the year before.

So,if the reviewers(again, not just GS) mention it lacks MP on the xbox version, that must mean the PC version had MP...and guess what...that MP was CSS! :o :P

Look at Crysis Warhead. It comes with a second disk, called Crysis Wars,it´s MP. So,since it doesn´t come on the same disk,it´s not the MP of Crysis Warhead? Even when Crytek said it was?

Seriously though,I guess it´s just a matter of perspective,I suppose. :)
