Therer´s nothing to apologise for. I only mention CSS as the MP component of HL2 simply because when I got the game when it came out(retail),CSS came with the game as it´s MP component, and steam back then was advertising it as the HL2 MP(it was the biggest release ever on steam at the time),and so did the reviewers back then.

Ah whatever. To each their own.
When I talk of Half-Life 2 I only talk of HL2, not of CS: S.
The same goes for Halo 3: ODST. I only talk of what came on the ODST disc, the Halo 3 multiplayer doesn't count for me despite being on a second disc in the same package. Just different ways of thinking I guess.
Notice that in the xbox reviews(not just GS) of HL2 how the fact that there´s only the SP in that version was a bit disapointing, unlike the PC version the year before. So,if the reviewers(again, not just GS) mention it lacks MP on the xbox version, that must mean the PC version had MP...and guess what...that MP was CSS! :o :P
Look at Crysis Warhead. It comes with a second disk, called Crysis Wars,it´s MP. So,since it doesn´t come on the same disk,it´s not the MP of Crysis Warhead? Even when Crytek said it was?
Seriously though,I guess it´s just a matter of perspective,I suppose. :)
Remember that whole perspective thing? I treated Crysis Wars as a separate entry from Warhead. First PC game I bought was Crysis Maximum Edition, I ended up treating each game as different from one another. So as far as Warhead, I guess we'd disagree on that too. Not that I'm going there. I doubt we'll change each others minds. :P
