Therer´s nothing to apologise for. I only mention CSS as the MP component of HL2 simply because when I got the game when it came out(retail),CSS came with the game as it´s MP component, and steam back then was advertising it as the HL2 MP(it was the biggest release ever on steam at the time),and so did the reviewers back then.

Arach666

Ah whatever. To each their own.

When I talk of Half-Life 2 I only talk of HL2, not of CS: S.

The same goes for Halo 3: ODST. I only talk of what came on the ODST disc, the Halo 3 multiplayer doesn't count for me despite being on a second disc in the same package. Just different ways of thinking I guess.

Notice that in the xbox reviews(not just GS) of HL2 how the fact that there´s only the SP in that version was a bit disapointing, unlike the PC version the year before.

So,if the reviewers(again, not just GS) mention it lacks MP on the xbox version, that must mean the PC version had MP...and guess what...that MP was CSS! :o :P

Look at Crysis Warhead. It comes with a second disk, called Crysis Wars,it´s MP. So,since it doesn´t come on the same disk,it´s not the MP of Crysis Warhead? Even when Crytek said it was?

Seriously though,I guess it´s just a matter of perspective,I suppose. :)

Remember that whole perspective thing? I treated Crysis Wars as a separate entry from Warhead. First PC game I bought was Crysis Maximum Edition, I ended up treating each game as different from one another. So as far as Warhead, I guess we'd disagree on that too. Not that I'm going there. I doubt we'll change each others minds. :P

I like Halo... Half Life is on a whole other level though... a creepy, blood pumping level.

I voted Half Life 2 if we are debating about the SP campaign. Halo 2 takes the multiplayer however. That is unless your counting all of the HL mods.

Is that Gran Turismo 2 you're mentioning or something else?If it's Gran Turismo 2I'll chalk that up to lack of disc space on a singleCD. Loopholes. Got a big book of 'em. :P

Ya,Gran Turismo 2. No matter,it´s on two discs,I can lend one to a friend while I play the other,so it´s two games! :o

Lack of space on the disk? Maybe that was the reason why CSS had a disk of it´s own then,HL2 was too big. ;)

Works both ways,my friend. :P

I've forgotten something else to add to Halo 2s list:

Bungie.net

I mean, it keeps track of ALL of your halo 2,3,ODST, and Reach stats from where you started playing, what your tool of destruction was in a particular game, what your favourite weapons are. Its crazy really.

it gives an accurate assessment of a certain player, and it shows you your strengths and weaknesses in the game. It also makes it much easier to communicate with fellow halo players. Then you can go on the forums and post your feedback on certain playlists. its great.

What about steam?

How about Half Life 2 deathmatch Steam integration? Counter-strike Source Steam integration?

Not too mention the Steam server browser, so you can see what servers your friends are in without even having to start up the game? Or join the game directly from the Steam UI, instead of finding the server and joining it?

Or how about all of the updates that Steam automatically updates your games with so game versions are always compatible with new server updates? Also keeps the games glitch free and bug free.

Did Halo 2 have updates to fix glitches?

Yes. And boy was it a sad day for all of us when the Sword Glitch was removed. There were constant updates to balance the gameplay.

Half-Life 2 is classic. Halo 2 is really, really good, but some of the levels are repetitive and the multiplayer was glitchy.

The only shooter from that year that has a right to be compared to HL2 is Far Cry. Halo 2 (campaign) was a shambles.

I liked it. I don't know what your reasons are for disliking it, but I know far too many people over-react to the cliffhanger ending to make the game seem worse than it actually is. Not saying you are, I'm sure you have your own reasons, but Ireally liked Halo 2's campaign. I haven't played Far Cry though, my only experience with Crytek has been Crysis, Warhead and Crysis 2.

I didn't mind the story. Nothing about the cliffhanger or Gravemind or even playing as Arbiter bothered me (I liked the Arbiter bits the best, actually). I just was really disappointed that it was so linear compared to CE and you had stupid marines clustering round you all the time.

Maybe "shambles" is overstating it, but it wasn't anything more than solid. Which, after I basically got a 360 just to play it because I loved CE so much, left me cold.

It is certainly the most linear of the Halo games and for that reason is the weakest campaign out of all five. But I thought the AI and combat scenarios were good enough to carry it. Regardless, the multiplayer is what took Halo 2 over the edge for me. The campaign is really fun and replayable, but Halo 3 stomped all over it when that released in 2007. Practically rendered Halo 2's campaign as obsolete.

The game had a rough development cycle to be sure though, I'm surprised it turned out as excellent as it did (for me anyway), even if the campaign portion wasn't as good as people initially expected it. I felt that it still made enough refinements to the combat and AI to be a really fun experience.

[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"]The only shooter from that year that has a right to be compared to HL2 is Far Cry. Halo 2 (campaign) was a shambles.Cherokee_Jack

Which, after I basically got a 360 just to play it because I loved CE so much, left me cold.

its is linear, true. But there are a few nonlinear ones, mainly Delta Halo, Regret, and the first few Arbiter levels.

If halo 2 had a cliffhanger then what the hell did half life 2. Oh holy crap. Explosion, time warp, gman, credits.

Agreed, but the end of HL2 actually felt like the end of the game. Halo 2 just ended extremely abruptly. When I beat HL2, I felt accomplished. When I completed Halo 2, I was just glad to have it out of the way in terms of games I needed to complete. From a long lasting appeal and influence stand point, Halo 2's lasting legacy rested with the multiplayer. It was the first game that set standards, and Halo 2 barely improved on them overall. Half Life 2's legacy is still being written. So many games have taken it's standard for physics and physics based/reflecting game play and pushed it very hard, the original Crysis games being the best examples of this. I think Halo 2's physics were impressive too, but they were purely for effects, not gameplay. They didn't mean anything, except to look cool which they did admirably.

Halo 2 ended abruptly but HL2 didn't? come on now. It ended just as badly as Halo 2 did. Halo 2 built up everything and then ended, but HL2 just...ended. both are just as bad.

Halo 2, easily. I still wish I can relive the glory days of Halo 2.

I'm sure its already been said countless times in this thread, but oh well.

Half Life 2 is timeless, I could replay it 10 years from now and have a great time. I go back and play Halo 2's SP, and it already feels extremely dated compared to recent releases, whereas Half Life 2 holds its own (hell, its better) than FPS's releasing today.

that is absolute tripe. Hal-flife 2 is far more dated than Halo 2, and thats a fact. Melee weapon? Weapon disc? no single grenade button? really?

I thought fans strongly disliked Halo 2, because from what i've read, i've concluded that it doesn't add anything to the franchise, and doesn't do anything new. I thought people liked the jump from Halo 1 to Halo 3, and hated Halo 2..

That is mostly the singleplayer part, it was rushed, and there were complaints, but the majority loved the game for what it was.

When I played HL2 I couldn't put it down. It felt like I was playing a sci-fi novel in motion. Real classic. Halo 2 was so disappointing. If anything Halo: CE is the HL2 of consoles.

Actually it's not.

I can go back and replay Half Life 2 and it feels fantastic every time. Half-Life 2 is up there with Resident Egvil 4 and Metal Gear Solid 3 in single player games that I can go back and enjoy replaying everytime.

Halo 2 was just....lame. No other way around it. Easily the worst in the series and once 3 came out it was completely obsolete. I forced myself through the SP (which was pretty damn AWFUL and boring, ESPECIALLY by Halo standards) and tried the multi-player a bit but the game just very quickly collected dust.

Half-Life 2 has stood the test of time MUCH better than Halo 2. It was just a perfectly constructed game just like the first Half-Life, which I played for the first time YEARS after it's release when it had already had plenty of time for the graphics to become outdated and still THOROUGHLY enjoyed.

But yeah, Half-Life 2 is WAY better than Halo 2. Not exactly a fair fight here though....

No it doesnt half life 2 is great the first time, but playing it the second time is meh, its linearity makes it no better then a cod singleplayer. Everything that makes it good is gone the second time, the atmosphere isnt there, the sense of ''exploration'' inst there either. Halo 2 however makes up for it simply because it has co op, makes it possible to enjoy the same thing in different ways, with different friends. Half life has a great singleplayer, but to say its better then halo 2 because of its replayability is wrong, because little to nothing is replayble in half life 2.

Again: All of these modern standards have been set in FPSs(a lot by halo 1 and 2) and HL2 doesn't live up to any of them

again: playing with a melee weapon is horrible. same with the weapon wheel. honestly, its lazy and it doesn't add any strategy at all. Health packs as well. have fun constantly respawning with 1% health and dying all the time!

halo 2 obsolete when 3 came out? there were still thousands of people playing halo 2 when it shut down, and that was in early 2010!

and calling halo 2 lame and HL2 perfectly constructed is wrong because:

A: no game is perfect

B: HL2 is absolutely horrible when it comes to being a shooter

C: Halo 2 still plays better and smoother than mosts FPSs out there(including HL2:o)

btw you=/= the world. you may think that, but its a fact that halo 2 resembles modern day FPSs more than any HL simply because it was the one that pushed modern day standards.
