The textures are noticeable though, when you're taking cover against a wall, you're gonna see the textures, they're in your face...smoke trails are little little bonus effects that no one is really gonna notice.

A lot.

When i get blown to hell by the AI's grenade for trying to take cover against a wall.

Plus it is used in the lighting system, which achieves a similarly muggy feel about some of the levels that enhances the experience.

for me killzone 2 beats out gears 2, but i think the guy who posted before about console exclusives not being counted, but console graphics are is absolutely right it just does not make sense.

while i have been impressed with many console graphics (uncharted, mgs4, kameo, gears...), it's basically fighting for scraps. people laugh when people bring up conduit because the wii isn't as powerful as ps3/360 and then talk about how amazing killzone 2 looks. there are lots of games on pc that look much better.

What does the lighting system have to do with smoke effects that blend right into the dull and grey back drops throughout the game? I'm just saying, if you're going to do a comparison vid, why are textures not in there...but silly smoke trail effects are?AAllxxjjnn

Smoke trail effects = GeOW

Volumetric Smoke and lighting = KZ2

And as i said in an earlier post: because the stated purpose of that video was to show how KZ2 has raised the bar over the old graphic's leader.

Arguing the subjective is hard anyway, but here it goes.

Volumetric smoke is used a lot on KZ2.

A lot.

You tend to notice it because your mind gets trained to the fact that it is important.

And it is pretty.

Oh so pretty.

The smoke in GeOW 2 really is dismal in comparison.

The lighting is directly relivent in the argument though and i assert KZ2 levied its lighting model more effectively (more impressive) then GeOW 2

Cept, all i've said is that the lens of truth comparison was completely stupid as it focuses effects that add next to nothing to the experience. Where are those great textures you're talking about? And the volumetric bullet/grenade smoke is still unimpressive and pointless to care about.

Geow strength is no more than textures end of story on that. I know I've said that most in here give Geow textures, but to say KZ2 has none is laughable. I mean KZ2's strength is in just about every aspect of a games visuals, not just one and that is why KZ2 demolishes Geow. I mean it looks great but when putting the entire package together then KZ2 stands on top. I mean you dismissing bullet damage to a wall and smoke and just about every aspect to a games graphics to solely look at textures is damage control at its finest.

To be honest, 'the argument' is GeOW2 vs Killzone 2 visualy.

Discounting a widely ignored pice of evidence doesn't really seem helpful.

His link proved that one of the strenghs you discounted is used a lot with their artand gameplay mechanic.

and i've said countless times the video is showing the strenghs of Killzone 2 and only uses GeOW2 as a benchmark.

I don't think so at all. For all the complaints MGS4 got for bad textures here and there, how in God's name hasn't RE5 been talked about?

I don't think so at all. For all the complaints MGS4 got for bad textures here and there, how in God's name hasn't RE5 been talked about?Chutebox
RE5 texturing is among the best this gen. You can look close to a lot of things and they remain texturized.

I don't do that. I hate nit picking. If it was small or something I had to stare at for a while or closely I wouldn't care.

Opinions are opinions, but the fact remains the most widely considered console graphics king on consoles this gen is Killzone 2 - and for good reason too.

Also it would be nice if these types of threads and arguments were started by people that actually played both games enough to compare the two. Watching nothing but videos on youtube is not enough imo.

I own a ps3 and 360 and to be 100% honest, there are 4 cosnole graphics king atm at least for me (Killzone2, Gears2, MGS4 and Kameo). I find all those games to be on the same level graphically, all very beautiful.

I have no doubt if Epic designed an engine exclusively for the PS3 with no need for compadibility with other consoles, it would be....

there are no words to describe how epic that would be.

I won't say Killzone 2 is lightyears ahead of GeOW game engine technology wise, only that the Cell allows insane things which make the game look better.

What I am saying is that, if the game did not have to render it, it could use it on straight up graphics like KZ2. If Epic made an engine for the 360 only, I am sure it would look good too (UE3 is multiplat and cannot use all of the features of Xenos) While GG plays the PS3s strengths and works around the weaknesses.

KZ2 is technically superior to anthing on console right now plain and simple and don't hide behind the the opinion argument cause you know that a cop out. from animation, to lighting, to physics, and just overall detail KZ2 simply has the best of everything who knows what the future hold but right now KZ2 current console graphics king

But i still like KZ2's visuals better then GeOW 2.

Agreed. And that's what I said, "Opinions". But I'm pretty sure if we were to have a Poll for console graphics king KZ2 would be the likely victor. Not just on Gamespot's forums but most gamers in general.

My main point is these threads started by people that have only truly played one of the games in question and how trying to win arguments by citing youtube videos and other sites technical mumbo jumbo is not enough. Play both equally and then form an argument.

you mean those laughable physics when bodies pile and then something goes boom near it and sends them up in teh air 2 inches? Killzone 2's death animation are superb, also KZ2 also as some destruction which is superior than gears 2 along with amazing particle effect and the some of the best lighting i've seen even by PC standards

LOL, 2in yea right also in gears the games has to calculate the body blowing up, not just some "death animation", oh and Halo 3's lighting is just as good as Killzone's.

Didn't you pretty much admit somewhere along this thread that you haven't played Killzone 2?
