They won in sales, but they only satisfied one wedge of a very large pie, and now they're wanting the rest of it. I guess they got tired of hearing all the moaning about lack of "hardcore games," so the new system is their way of shutting those people up. They'll let the third parties babysit those people while they focus on their E-for-everyone games themselves.
You know, "hardcore" doesn't mean LOL BLOOD GUTS SEX VIOLENCE. It translates to an old-school mentality of hard-but-fair difficulty. Something most games are lacking nowadays, and something Nintendo's been sorely lacking in for the last three gens. Sorry, some of us get satisfaction from overcoming a well-crafted challenge. They won in sales, but they only satisfied one wedge of a very large pie, and now they're wanting the rest of it. Hmm. System to system comparison i would say PC won.
edit: The DS was the best secondary system to have for any setup.
Consoles were all a let down this generation to me. All 3 were not good systems if you were only able to afford 1 system this generation. The 360 and PS3 were better system to system, but the wii was the only unique among the 3.
The 'sales race' isn't over until the last console is sold. The Wii U may come out holidays 2011 but it doesn't mean the Wii has won. For example if the Wii completely dies after 2011 but the PS3 and 360 get a really strong 2011/2012/2013 they could surpass.
In War there is never a winner.
that said I love my wii...the console is not for everyone but it did very well for Nintendo. I think it could have been more but i'm ok with it. Glad i had a PSP during its lifespan but i did not feel the need to buy another console yet.
In terms of what it set out to do, I'd say yes.Nintendo wanted to expand the gaming audience and I think they've certainly done that to some extent.
In terms of whether or not it was "the best console", probably not for some people and for others, probably. It was/is my most played console. I play the Wii more regularly than my 360. It's downfalls were mainly with it's online infrastructure and the fact that it missed out on basically every big third party multiplatform release.
Though, the Wii still got some great third party exclusive content - From Little King's Story to Muramasa: The Demon Blade to No More Heroes (until recently).
Sales are the only thing the matters. In terms of sales it did, games on the other hand well that's an entirely different story.

:([QUOTE="Daytona_178"]Last in customer relations (casual market is NOT a loyal market)Sgt_CrowBut Nintendo fans are a very loyal market, and they have lots of those. :) Logic debunked. If you watch the sales of the Wii you would take into notice that the casual market isn't as consistent as the core gamer market.
Yes it won, it sold like hotcakes, it forced the comptetition to play catch up and now is leaving them to pick up the pieces while moving to something else, not to mention it would be pretty hard for either of the Twins to reach it's sales (granted, not impossible), so yeah, despite what people try to say the fact is that PS3 and 360 are figthing for a nice 2nd place.
In terms of sales it did. It's hard to imagine the the 360 or PS3 will catch up with it. Well as long as the Wii keep selling. :P
timmy00
Did it crack 90 million yet? If not and the sales keep slowing down, the HD twins could maybe.:P Knowing how Sony supports their platforms for years after the next console is released, it potentially could but that's being super optimistic.
Also the Wii won this generation in terms of sales and exclusves, Doesn't have a huge arsenal of AAA games, but it has so many amazing AA titles that I need to catch up with, (something I will be doing while I wait for the next consoles to get a price cut:lol: )
In sales yes, as for games dead lastMariotookmyxbox
How ironic that all that seems to matter for Cows and Lemms are sales.
In sales yes, as for games dead lastMariotookmyxboxNeed I list how many Wii exclusives I've thoroughly enjoyed vs. PS3 and 360 games combined that I've enjoyed?
They easily won. They dominated so hard that their competition was forced to change as well.
That's about as "pwn" as it gets.
Sales determine generation winners, so yes, it won. I don't like the ps2, didn't care for the ps1, and I vastly prefer the Genesis over the SNES, but I'm not going to deny that they won their respective "wars."
Well, judging by the Gamespot spreadsheet is the Wii appears to have the highest amount of high rated games of the three consoles, and it also has the highest sales though it's been selling a lot less recently it seems.
I would say it won out of the consoles, but PC will always be the real winner.
Yes, the Wii won.
Of the big three companies, it was Sony and Microsoft that had to adjust by releasing motion-controls of their own.
Did it have the better games? No, it didn't. In terms of features, Xbox & PS had more to offer, but the Wii resonated well with consumers because it was cheap and highly-interactive console that people of all ages could play. That made it very likely to be purchased by families.
Heck, even my parents bought a Wii. It was the first video game system they ever personally owned.
The wii won the battle but lost the war. What i mean is it sold much more hardware as it has the lowest price. However it lost because mose of the people that bought it were casusl gamers ans they don't buy games like the hardcore gamer does. It also lost in the game selection and online. It also lost on the 3rd party support big time.
This is why the wii dispite having huge install base is dead. The wii u is going down the same path imo why ??
The wii u is too close in power to the 360 and ps3.
The nintendo has no online upgrades so far it talking to devs the same thing they did with th wii.
The wii u can do ps3 and 360 game ports but has no 3rd pty exclusives yet. Also the wii u 3rd party support could dry up when the next gen systems come out.
Nintendo has said the wii u won't be cheap most people think it will go for 350 usd or more.
The wii u has no multi media playback support a standard feature in consoles from the dreamcast days.
The tablet controller is too big for kids and the battery life is going to suck.
Not sure if it can be used for hours also needs analog sticks and buttons.
Sony and MS will most likely drop the price of the 360 and ps3 when the wii u comes out next year.
Nintendo says the wii u only supports one tablet and that the tablet is pricey so it may not support 2 if it is possible.
If this was a Ms or sony console it would be game over but because it's nintendo I give them 50/50 if the casuals upgrade.

No games matter too. And the Wii has suffered a sudden death. What will sheep be doing until the WiiU releases and they finally get a taste of what us 360 and PS3 gamers have been playing all these years? Theres only so many times you can replay and replay zelda.[QUOTE="Rude_Bwoii"]

Oh, and yes, i can replay Zelda again, and again, and again, and again, trust me, it never get's old.
Yes, unless somehow MS or Sony (which I don't see happening) sell a crap ton of systems before releasing their new ones. Although for me Wii is my second place system after the 360. Don't even care about the PS3 though.
I bet the WiiU's online infrastructure will be better then the Wii's.

That my friend would not be hard to do the wii's online is horrible. I remember buying smash brothers and got hom went to play online and could not. The problem is nintendo is starting this upgrade way late if they do upgrade. Look how long it took psn to get to the current point. Even microsoft took years to get live to the current state. Now nintendo has the wii u coming out and it is still talking to devs yeah ok. Even if they are serious by the time the wii u comes out then to upgrade will take a while to become decent.
You just don't wake up one day and create a good online service it comes in stages over time if you have the right team. Clearly nintendo has no unified online strategy at all. You would think at this point with steam, live and psn they would have some idea what features they wanted and what works. The fact they are still talking about it imo means they are going to take their sweet time. THe wii u will come out and the online will still be rubbish and gamers will complain and nintendo will say we are working on it still. This does not surprise me just look at how nintendo handled the wii u at the e3 it was horrible also. Many people thought the wii u tablet was a wii controller. They had no games and the best game demo zelda looked like a 360 game. You also had the tablet that they spent all the time at the show on and clearly they had no idea how gmes were going to use it.
So yeah the wii u will have better online than the wii only because it could not get any worse.
