Uh no, its not that black and white. Explain to me why only exclusives matter?

RR360DD

they are the only ones that matter simply in SW because they are games that a console offers that none of the other ones do. thats why people in SW generally talk about exclusives. multiplats prove nothing for a specific console. this is SW basics here. i shouldn't be explaining this to you.

Between the PS3 and 360, you would be right. Those consoles are so similar that it really comes down to the exclusives. But the Wii this gen has went off on its own path, which is why big multiplats such as GTA, Bioshock, Assassins Creed etc. do matter. Despite them being multiplat, they do not appear on the Wii.

in overall librbary yea the 360 has a betterr library but in no way wii library was bad or didnt have worthwhile games

and exclusively the wii does kick some major arse

[QUOTE="Mariotookmyxbox"]In sales yes, as for games dead lastRR360DD

How ironic that all that seems to matter for Cows and Lemms are sales.

No games matter too. And the Wii has suffered a sudden death. What will sheep be doing until the WiiU releases and they finally get a taste of what us 360 and PS3 gamers have been playing all these years? Theres only so many times you can replay and replay zelda.

Blast Works
Castle of Shikigami III
de Blob
Geometry Wars: Galaxies
The House of the Dead: Overkill
Ivy the Kiwi?
Lost in Shadow
MadWorld
Metroid Prime: Trilogy
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
No More Heroes
Red Steel 2
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars

There's more to play and replay than just that sub-par Zelda game...

they win on unit sales, though I think PS3 and Xbox 360 does better selling 3rd party software, but as far as 1st party game sales goes Nintendo dominates that too

For a buisness point of view it did, from a gamers point of view it certainly did not.

bri360

this is my problem with this though whats the point of adding in a gamers point of view

how do you know some gamers actually felt the wii won since its such an opininated theory.

thats why when we talk about who won a generation its sales i dont get why here this is so hard to understand

no it isnt......

Mario1331

yes it is

since when has it ben confirmed its competing with the 360 and ps3?

when the 360 launched was it competing with the gc/ps2?

Well here's what Gamespot said about it,

"What kind of visual horsepower will the Wii U really have?
The Twilight Princess Wii U demo at E3 2011 was designed to flex some of the Wii U's graphical capabilities, and we were pretty impressed. If anything, it showed that the system will be capable of producing visual quality that's in the realm of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3".

Carmack said basically the samething about how Nintendo is finally releasing a console on par with the HD Twins.

And of course the 360 was competing all by itself because it was the only console released that year right? Wait, no of course not. It competed with the PS3 which released a year later but gave you a comparable experience.

Sadly it won when you look at the sales. After the abysmal showing of the wii, never in gods name am i going near another nintendo console (and ive owned every console minus the vb). The wii was the least most played console ive ever owned. Maybe it was the hd twins spoiling me or me just simply out growing nintendo. As usual, IMO before any fanboys throw a fit.

Sales yes

Games, no

Unlike the past 2 gens, the #1 console didn't have the most sales and most good games at the same time.

Though PS3 or 360 could still beat the wii in the long rung (since WiiU might kill it early)

But the Kinect would have to become much moe succesful, and a 199 PS3 would have to sell extremly well.

Mario1331

i dont think the the ps3 and 360 are catching 8-+ million honestly with 360 nex console comming in 2012

Are you thinking of that rumour of an announcement for 2012, which turned out to be false?

Agreed about the weak game library overall. BUT I think both Gamecube and N64 had even weaker libraries, and Wii is not Nintendo's worst showing. At least Wii was able to bring back some classics like Punch Out and DKC. Plus, I enjoyed the virtual console and downloadable games like Megaman 10. Backwards compatibility was good too, which is something previous Nintendo console didn't have. And there were some good exclusives, save the obvious Nintendo ones, like Goldeneye, Sonic Colors, and Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Why do so many people rag on the Wii's library? I don't understand. Outside of Nier, Demon's Souls, EDF 2017, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Raiden IV, and the small library of Cave shmups on the 360, I've found very little to enjoy between the 360 and PS3. There have been a good number of 'hardcore' (i.e. old-school design/ difficulty) games on the Wii. Many niches were filled, including side-scrolling action, shmups, on-rails shooters, and fighting games. Was there a lot of casual shovelware to sift through for said games? Yes. But it's no different for me than wading through the oceans of FPS on PS3 and 360.

Elaborate, please. Even after all the examples of quality Wii games have been given, nobody seems to give a good reason for this notion of the Wii lacking a decent library.

Possibly, but if we went by games then PC wins. If by sales, Wii wins. Can't exclude PC since its System Wars and not console wars.

In someone's opinion, I suppose. The only Ps3 exclusives to keep me entertained are still just Demon's Souls and 3D Dot Game Heroes. The only 360 exclusives I thoroughly enjoy are Earth Defense Force 2017 and the small plethora of vertical and horizontal scrolling shmups. The only multiplats between the two I've enjoyed are Bayonetta, Nier, and Vanquish. Versus over 2 dozen Wii exclusives I still play and enjoy.

Well you can enjoy what you like, you not enjoying great games doesn't mean they cease to exist. 360 and PS3 both have massive libraries of well reviewed games from great devs. If you wanna do the whole "LOL subjective, Conduit is better then Halo/Killzone/Crysis LOL" thing go ahead, I'm not too bothered arguing with such a dead end :P

I could say the same about you not liking or caring about the Wii games I consider to be great. However, greatness-- like beauty-- is entirely subjective, and always in the eye of the beholder.

360 and PS3 both have massive libraries of well reviewed games from great devs

There's that "G" word again.

If you wanna do the whole "LOL subjective, Conduit is better then Halo/Killzone/Crysis LOL" thing go ahead, I'm not too bothered arguing with such a dead end :P

How do you think I feel? :P Anyway, screw the Conduit, I'd rather be playing Sin & Punishment: Star Successor or Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Screw Halo/Killzone/Crysis, too, since I'd rather be playing Vanquish or Bayonetta. Just a few examples. I can enjoy a game regardless of its platform. I'm just picky when it comes to genres and gameplay mechanics.

In terms of sales it did. It's hard to imagine the the 360 or PS3 will catch up with it. Well as long as the Wii keep selling. :P

sanim02

Did it crack 90 million yet? If not and the sales keep slowing down, the HD twins could maybe.:P Knowing how Sony supports their platforms for years after the next console is released, it potentially could but that's being super optimistic.

Also the Wii won this generation in terms of sales and exclusves, Doesn't have a huge arsenal of AAA games, but it has so many amazing AA titles that I need to catch up with, (something I will be doing while I wait for the next consoles to get a price cut:lol: )

the wii has to seriously stop selling completely in order to catch up to it. its too far ahead honestly

I bet the WiiU's online infrastructure will be better then the Wii's.

Rude_Bwoii

That my friend would not be hard to do the wii's online is horrible. I remember buying smash brothers and got hom went to play online and could not. The problem is nintendo is starting this upgrade way late if they do upgrade. Look how long it took psn to get to the current point. Even microsoft took years to get live to the current state. Now nintendo has the wii u coming out and it is still talking to devs yeah ok. Even if they are serious by the time the wii u comes out then to upgrade will take a while to become decent.

You just don't wake up one day and create a good online service it comes in stages over time if you have the right team. Clearly nintendo has no unified online strategy at all. You would think at this point with steam, live and psn they would have some idea what features they wanted and what works. The fact they are still talking about it imo means they are going to take their sweet time. THe wii u will come out and the online will still be rubbish and gamers will complain and nintendo will say we are working on it still. This does not surprise me just look at how nintendo handled the wii u at the e3 it was horrible also. Many people thought the wii u tablet was a wii controller. They had no games and the best game demo zelda looked like a 360 game. You also had the tablet that they spent all the time at the show on and clearly they had no idea how gmes were going to use it.

dude...seriously your coming off as a hater

So yeah the wii u will have better online than the wii only because it could not get any worse.

I try and seperate my subjective opinion of things and be as objective as possible, can;t be completely obviously.

Example: I have zero interest in RTS I detest them with a passion. But of course Starcraft 2 and Total War and so many more are brilliant games. Everyone can prefer what they like but if you can try be somewhat objective you know that Bioware or Valve are obviously better then High Voltage Software or whoever :P

TBH, if they had released the Wii U in the place of the Wii, Nintendo would be having an epic gen right now. From the people that I know so far, Nintendo is now looked upon as a casual company that releases weak consoles with no good games. Long term Nintendo followers don't believe this, but I don't believe the younger audiences are exactly considered "long term Nintendo followers".

wait since when did it not win the games bracket,

-- its got everything snes and n64 had and more except fzero and starfox-

so ya im going to call bull on that call , its got double the games gc had and n64 had , most of the games being actually very good , dispite what some may refer to bargin bin titles, ive played a fair share of them

- my sims comes to mind this one is alot more fun to play then sims is lol ,its not even a close battle, cause my sims is a actual game where you have to do stuff unlike sims where u can just simulate life lol

and then you got alot of off beat racing games- like mini desktop racers which mimicks micromachines very good

and yes wii won this gen even without wii nintendo won this gen -ds any body

ds actually won this gen by a mile and 2nd is wii 3rd is psp 4th 360 5th is ps3 , pretty bad , for sony but i wont say it was good for ms as they could not hold onto the lead!!! now what company before it could not hold on to the lead ? i ll give you a hint - they are third party since 2001 , and their only succesful console is genesis--- ya thats right microsoft may be following in segas foot steps not sure when but man they are on their third platform pretty soon and we will see how that pans out but right now their record is in line with sega!!! coming out with a console first but finishing cant say yet ,, ps3 and 360 still going at it , but wii won by default -- not because of number of sales but profit , and wii u already being out that will be like 3ds is doing now - a third pillar until wii is dead period then theyll focus on it remember itl take time before people switch over,

people c all 3ds a flop but they forget ds was doing this with gba around to ,so add ds and 3ds together to get your sales number for nintendo handhelds ,, thats how itll work unt il its done, people will have to transfer then , and i doubt theyll leave nintendo for shooting games on a psp lol

have fun with that little theory , handhelds have to have different types of games then consoles to succeed -see how psp already failed--- hello ports more ports of ps3 360 wii etc titles

thats not how you make a portable sell ,

and thats not going to make one sell next gen 3ds will have exclusives

what will vita have in terms of them well probably just spin offs of ps3 titles from sony ,

while 3ds has steel diver nintendogs continuing , resident evil revelatiosn and mercinaries

etc so ya nintendo as a whole won this gen and if i added gc and gba sales they came 2nd last gen

mariokart64fan
You just made fun of all the Nintendo handhelds congratulations on failing.

Only a couple? Do I need to post that list again? Could have sworn I already copy/pasted it to this thread. Funny thing is, most of the 20-something Wii games I thoroughly enjoyed/ still enjoy are third-party.

It's definitely a win for the Wii this gen, but the win for the Wii this gen isn't the same like the win the ps2 had last gen. The Wii won this gen, but the ps2 DOMINATED the previous gen, all across the board. The Wii can't tell the same tale. The ps2 had the most sales, the best games, and the most software support. The Wii only had the most sales. Everything else can be argued, unlike the ps2. The Wii could be looked at by it's fan to have the best games, but to the general public, they may tell a very different tale, and it's almost a "no-brainer" that the Wii had the least software support out of the 3 consoles this gen.

Nintendo made the most money so yeah of course they won there is no doubt about it
