Well imo its not dead at all, its alot smaller now thats for sure, i blame Microsoft for that, while some people blame piracy, either argument is fair enough

But people in the video game industry and quite a few gamers believe PC gaming is dead or Dying?

when you compare HD consoles to PC, you are comparing 2 (Xbox 360/PS3) platforms to 1, so thats just not fair straight off the bat, 1v1 please

PC is a free platform, nobody owns it, we dont have a big company to advertise for us or buy exclusive games for us, nothing is stopping Blizzard making console games, while all devs owned by Microsoft/Sony are forced to make games for that platform and only that platform

TL;DR PC will not get many exclusives

ah i miss the 90's, that was the golden age for PC gaming, well 2004 was good aswell

Only not very bright people or console kids like to say that PC gaming is dead... All that happened was the screamers went to xbox and left PC alone and turned it into a nice little haven.

I try to balance out PC and console gaming but I know if they raise next gen console game prices I will probably never own another console for a very long time.

more like Microsoft left PC gaming and forced people to move to Xbox

i was surprised Age of empires 3 was Pc exclusive, well ensemble got shut down anyway

Halo 2 /Fable 1/Gears 1 coming to PC but not the sequels was such a smart move

and delaying Fable 3 just after they said they want to come back to PC gaming

oh and alan wake, hyping Pc gamers up for 5 years than saying Nope 360 exclusive, just marketing genius

It's alive and well, Steam alone has more users both total and at peak times than XBL, and that doesn't even include behemoths like Blizzard's SC2 and WoW. It's just different, less visible than console gaming to the public because it's so spread out and there is no one spending hundreds of millions to advertise it.

PC Gaming: Happily "dying" since 1985.

No PC gaming is not dying, and the fact that no one owns the PC makes it the most attractive system to develop for for many developers it seems, the PC has more 7.0 and above exclusives than all consoles combined.

PC: 14 AAAE, 82 AAE, 84 AE. Total 180 AE or above
360: 8 AAAE, 16 AAE, 12 AE. Total 36 AE or above
PS3: 1 AAAAE, 7 AAE, 13 AAE, 17 AE. Total 38 AE or above
Wii: 1 AAAAE, 4 AAAE, 25 AAE, 40 AE. Total 70 AE or above

Combined all those consoles would have 144 exclusives combined which is actually less than what the PC Alone has.

PC gaming is not dying at all, in fact many sources say that PC gaming is going up. If Deviousx shows up he will put every source he has to prove that PC gaming is far from dying.

Yeah that's why I don't game on it, other than to play low end mini games. But even if you exclude my personal tastes, you gotta admit that constant sequels to MMOs, FPSs, and RTSs aren't enough to keep it flurishingly fresh for future generations.

i disagree with piracy

PSP and DS have the worst piracy by far, Xbox 360 has piracy (1million banned users on that banwave day?) PS3 has piracy, wii has very high piracy

got any links to show me piracy is rampant on the PC? besides capcom and epic games? because i have plenty of links for PSP/Wii piracy that seems to be much worse at the moment

Thankfully what you think isn't reflected in reality. If you want to talk about constant sequels, look at the console market as of late.

If we are going to talk about piracy, how about the console 2nd hand market?

Oh I know people hate that inconvenient bit of information, that a 2nd hand sale is no different from piracy; in that someone is enjoying the game without any money going to the developers/publishers. Pre-owned games is a very big business, some retailers basing their entire business model on getting people to trade in old games for new ones; filling their 2nd hand shelf.

In the meantime the console companies would outright ban it if they had the chance. Unlike piracy, you can actually say for certain that was a lost potential sale; because they actually bought it.

Piracy isnt a lost sale on PC, not always

people can torrent the game and use their cdkey, or buy a cdkey from whatever site and than torrent it

i did it for COD4, i guess im a pirate? well lock me up

Darth-Samus

Again, what life support? Who/where is this support coming from? Who is propping up PC gaming?

I can point to PS3 and say "Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Resistance 2 etc. are all Sony funded exclusives. Showing that Sony is supplementing the PS3's line-up, because it is failing to attract big budget exclusives from 3rd party developers".

But when I look at PC... what? Where is this life support?

Piracy isnt a lost sale on PC, not always

HaloinventedFPS

I'm aware of this, which is why I said "unlike piracy", because there is no guarantee every download was a lost sale. They may have just downloaded the torrent file and gave up when the connection was too slow, tried the game as a demo and then went on to buy it etc.

Can someone please show me something tangible that PC gaming is dying? I don't think anyone can, and that's because IT'S NOT.

PC gamers on this cesspool of a forum are accused endlessly of being elitist when the majority of us only point out the obvious truth's about the platform when the console users try to pass over their system/s as superior over the PC, when they are simply not, in nearly every single way. Thread's like this, with people saying "let it die" when the death of PC gaming IS the death of any meaningful future of the industry is equally sad, stupid, shortsighted and infuriating.

Every time one of these pathetic threads are opened, their is always a number of posters who post a whole bunch of facts that show the health of PC gaming, and 90% of the time, these figures are ignored by the anti-PC brigade who continue to goad and troll us.

In my opinion, every single rubbish "PC gaming is dead" thread should be locked. There's no discussion here, it's been proven time and time again that it isn't. Common sense says that it isn't. It's simply a way for the trolls to get a few free shots in.

Really? Because what I'm seeing in this thread is a bunch of hermits that can't keep their cool and directly insulting other posters instead of focusing on the argument itself. Because console fanboys have spoken so much false bull regarding PC's, so many times, and we hermits have corrected them in a civil matter, countless times. But since fanboys shall not read ->

We don't care anymore, and just make fun of their complete miss-information and utter illogical statements.

Who's to blame?

A example, some consolites, still think a good PC costs 1000$+. Wen FACT is you can get a good PC that can play all modern games on high settings for less then 500$. But that has ben said a million times, we hermits do have a limit to our immense patience.

because its not like you really get it. 3rd parties do exist and do provide many wonderful games for the ps3, xbox, and yes, pc at the same time. besides that, the companies do "supplement" their game lists with 1st party games. but this is supposed to be the case since they are making a reason why you need to buy that system over another. this and these days, it just isn't profitable to dev for only 1 system. this is why guys like crytek went multiplat. and you just said that nobody owns pc gaming. i assure you that if they did, they would do the same exact thing.

One of them directly insulted another poster by saying "crap people like you".That's direct flamming, and not allowed here. Why can't hermits keep the discussion civil?

Because console fanboys have spoken so much false bull regarding PC's, so many times, and we hermits have corrected them in a civil matter, countless times. But since fanboys shall not read ->

We don't care anymore, and just make fun of their complete miss-information and utter illogical statements.

Who's to blame?

A example, some consolites, still think a good PC costs 1000$+. Wen FACT is you can get a good PC that can play all modern games on high settings for less then 500$. But that has ben said a million times, we hermits do have a limit to our immense patience.

Well this is System Wars, and every system gets bashed here, and anyone who knows the rules should follow them like everybody else. If it bothers hermits so much that other people won't agree with them, or say something negative whether it's true or not, they should probably stick to the PC forums.

Is it really an intelligent discussion to ask this every month of every single year?

HaloinventedFPS

people keep claiming PC gaming is dead/dying, so yeah, what do you think?

By people, you mean console fanboys. And by claiming you mean trolling.

because its not like you really get it. 3rd parties do exist and do provide many wonderful games for the ps3, xbox, and yes, pc at the same time. besides that, the companies do "supplement" their game lists with 1st party games. but this is supposed to be the case since they are making a reason why you need to buy that system over another. this and these days, it just isn't profitable to dev for only 1 system. this is why guys like crytek went multiplat. and you just said that nobody owns pc gaming. i assure you that if they did, they would do the same exact thing. antifanboyftw

Again, how is PC on life support? I can name a variety of examples of the 1st party funding their own platform adoption justifications, whether that be 1st/2nd party development or bought exclusive DLC. I cannot name a single thing that demonstrates what PC has today is because it is getting special support.

What you have done with the above is agree that consoles are getting a lot of 1st party support, the reason being today's development costs. You have also said if PC was a 1st party owned platform; it would do the same, which I agree. However, none of this explains how PC is on life support.

I find it highly hypocritical for people to say PC is on life support, while it is blatantly obvious consoles are.
