Also, the next-gen consoles will make a lot of people's gaming PCs outdated. Not every PC gamer plays games in DX11.

I'll have to agree. We need new consoles NOW but no way can the X1 or the PS4 make up for another 10 years without going seriously obsolete. A 5 to 6-year cycle is more practical.
There will still be superb-looking/playing games, and games matter more than power.danten81however more power and memory allows more options, more complex worlds.

So someone who only has a DX10 capable GPU in their PC can't be considered an actual PC Gamer? Does every gaming PC have a DX11 capable GPU? Do I ask too many questions?[QUOTE="danten81"]There will still be superb-looking/playing games, and games matter more than power.04dcarraherhowever more power and memory allows more options, more complex worlds.
Â
no it doesn't. Â Good developers are what allows that. Â Breakthroughs in AI is what will allow that. Â Better controls will allow that. Â More power just means that what you are playing now will just look better. Â Also complex worlds require complex controls. Â Because of the gamepad controls will never be complex on consoles. It simply can't be. Â It's why a game like Arma will never come to nextgen consoles even though they have the power to run them. If it did it would be a dumbed down version of the game that you couldn't even call the same game. Â

no, Xbox one actually more capable then ps4, it shader processors are more efficient per cycle and have lower latency memory, along with eSRAM for GPGPU, it going to be a beast at that, ps4 is more of standard 1.8 teraflop GCN gpu with no modications.. not as advanced as the One SoC Xbox One also do more triangle per second then PS4
also Xbox One SoC have much more cache onboard then PS4 SoC so...Â
4x in power increase with each generation. This year: 100Gflops, Next year 400Gflops and the following year 1600gflops, easilly silly surpassing the xbox one power.[QUOTE="Trail_Mix"]
Why mobile?
loco145
I would NOT want to shell out 300-600 bucks for a tablet every freaking year just to stay current with newer games. They also have limited space, the biggest right now I believe is 64 gb.
It would be very hard for consoles to match top PCs because they are so far above.
Besides, would you be willing to pay 600-700 bucks for a game console?
nameless12345
They bought the best parts avilable at the time for previous launches. This time, they settled for far worse. I mean a tablet CPU and a GPU equivalent to that of the 2010's 570, really?

MS and Sony didn't keep pace with PC's GPU TDP levels. Given similar GPU tech, a larger GPU with higher TDP would usually beat a smaller GPU with less TDP.Downgraded tech demos like UE4. Next-gen Consoles are not outdated, they're just not a PC so why comparing them !!!!!
One should comapre a console with another..
In the past years PC have always been superior in terms of hardware and that will continue considering how faster the hardware is changing/updated nowadays (GPU / CPU / RAM etc etc)
the hell do you expect? them to have top of the line hardware that would cost several hundred dollars more? even then, all the months it takes from showing them to being on store shelves, new tech would come out and they'd still be outdated. just another reason why comparing consoles to PCs; systems with different hardware for everyone and new hardware coming out multiple times each year, is stupid. handssssBy the start of Nov 2013, 7970 would be ~22 months old.

Actually no not really then that would include the developement teams that have used it as well as any focus groups or anyone that has touched the new consoles. Â The user base is the largest demograph that will buy the product. Â Such as if 60% of middle aged women were buying Wii's (yes it's not a real statistic) then the user base would be middle aged women. Â Right now the user base (whatever that may be) doesn't actually own the console even if a few of them have had a look at E3 or any other place that demo'ed them. Â So in other words the user base is not zero but it's also still doesn't have the end product either.
I would be surprised if many people actually cared about this.
People pick consoles for many reasons, its not because they dont know that they have the option to get/build a gaming pc.
I personally dont mind at all, as long as it is better and prettier than current gen, its all i need from a next gen console.

I don't think the average PC gamer is excited about the next gen consoles at all. They seem to just ridicule the graphics and say mean stuff to consolites. Multiplat game sizes are limited by the weakest console specs. So next gen will allow better PC games too.

a HD5780 from 2009 is a little bit behind a HD7850(what ps4 have) in teams of processing power (but it lacks DX11.2 and vram) but the point is how still has a GPU from 2009? and i am not taking about pc peasants, but actual real pc gamers.

Â
Regardless, a 5780 is still not too far behind a next gen console. It'll be a bit slower, and lack some features, but it's not like a gamer with one won't be able to play these games at all. Unlike someone with a last gen console who won't upgrade, a PC gamer with a 2009 GPU WILL be able to play next gen games. Just not at max settings, obviously. He'll just have to run at 1440x900, or be satisfied with 30 FPS or medium/low settings. That's STILL WAY better than what console gamers today put up with vs current PC's.
Â
I did the math last time this whole "Herp derp! Not ALL PC gamers on the planet will have next gen equivalent PCS!!! HErp derp" from console gamers who ignore the fact thatt he "next gen" console install base is exactly ZERO, and that it won't be significant for 2-3 years anyway.
Â
I belive, based purely on the  Steam hardware survey (which doesn't include the latest gen of GPU's so it's not entirely accurate), and ignoring anyone NOT on Steam the percentage of PC gamers with roughly equivalent or better PC gaming rigs is about 14%. This is just GPU wise, most have CPU's that trounce both consoles. Assuming the CPU can make up for a bit underpowered GPU's, that number goes up a bit.
Â
But let's stick to 14% (again, only Steam users, not quite super accurate at all). That would mean about 10 million PC gamers have an equivalent or better PC.
Again, this is an incredibly concervative estimate since not ALL PC gamers take the survey, not ALL PC gamers are on Steam. AND the survey is not super accurate since some modern GPU models are NOT included (or are crowded up in the "others' category).
Another thing to keep in mind is that there has been almost NO reason to upgrade hardware in YEARS, since most games can be played with 6-7 year old graphics cards thanks to consoles.Â
Analysts are expecting to continue to see a rise in enthusiast PC gaming GPU's in the coming years.Â
It took the Xbox 360 10 years to get to 10 million units. I think it's going to do that in 2 this time around. But PC will ALSO grow in those two years. I wouldn't be suprised if it''ll take the Xbone 3 years to surpass the PC install base with equivalent or better hardware.
