Also, when you buy a console you already have a TV.... 99.9% of people have a TV, before ever buying a console. Do those people also have a Monitor before they ever buy a PC?
Guy walks into a PC shop to buy his first PC... does he need to buy a monitor? Most likely YES!
Same guy walks into a store to buy a console... does he need to buy a TV? Almost certainly NO!
But even monitor/TV aside, you can't build a good PC for $300, unless you are stealing parts/software... and/or taking parts/software from a pre-existing system.
You can connect your tv to your pc obviously, plus who in this day and age doesn't have a pc? everyone has a monitor or a pc hooked to a tv
Also what is the problem with windows 7 being free until next year?
