What MS will do ? What is your scenario ?

I think it certainly will benefit PC gamers because MS will suddenly remember that it has a second child.

Will MS release all X1 exclusives on PC ? Will MS start developing games for Windows again ?

Or it will set itself in denial mode and will continue to pour money into a failed experiment ?

How many copies X1 needs to sell so as not to be considered a total flop, to be considered a niche console ?

10 M units ? 20 ?

Will PC become even stronger if MS turns toward it again ?

They will pay more & more money to lock up multiplats or buyout PC exclusives to be XB1 exclusive...it's a sad truth but that's their last ditch effort.

They wont fail miserably because MS has a bottomless pit of money for advertising. They will reach millions of people who have no idea about any of the negative things about the XB1. Moms, dads, grandparents, new games, or gamers that dont travel in our circles. Sony just does not have the raw cash anymore to be able to do a scorch the earth campaign like MS can.

MS showed up at bestbuy stores during nintendos big unveiling of new games to ambush people coming http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/06/microsoft-employees-ambush-wii-u-best-buy-events-to-promote-xbox-one/

And they are setting up xbox one stores inside a bunch of bestbuy stores http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/14/microsoft-opening-stores-inside-600-best-buy-outlets-to-promote-xbox-one/

Thats only the start.

Only way they will feel anything is if the real gamers reach more non gamers to let them know about the XB1 and why it is very anti customer base and to contact publishers/developers to let them know they will support the PS4.

If the X1 fails I doubt it will be a boon for PC gamers unless they have a paradigm shift in their business plan.  They abandoned PC gaming a long time ago and despite their reassurances that they are going to invest more in it, it's very unlikely they will to the amount that would make a difference.  The burned their bridges by dismantling their best PC development groups.

But what they gonna do the whole gen? 8 years is a lot of time. They will have to recover money eventually in some way. At least part of it.

In terms of money MS is a giant.  They have revenue sources from Windows, Office, Servers, DB engines, services, .... So many that they are can afford to have one that is unprofitable just to retain some market share of that area.

It has a benefit to governments and it may be subsidized by them. That may have been their plan all along and then the leek happened, so it's a "little" harder to convince people that the connected camera will verify your existence at least once a day. Maybe the consensus will be better in five months?

I think in terms of recouping their money I think they will at least do that.  There are plenty of Xbots (and Xbots to be) that will pay the initial bills.  Although MS is going to want a cash cow for the long haul.  I still think that the Sony is easily going to dominate MS this gen with MS and Ninty being the bottom two, unless Ninty can pull it's head out of it's ass and push through some exclusives.  Sony is finally able to finally get some breaks at the right time and play it smart.  MS can't see to stop shooting itself in the foot with many moves that are making consumers unhappy.  If Ninty can get it together they could steam roll MS and put them in 4th place.  But again they will make some money, just not a much as they would like to have made.

There's a difference between failing financially and failing the console war friend. :) XBOX One will take a back seat this generation to the mighty PS4 just like the XBOX Classic did to the PS2. That's how it will fail.  All the money in the world wont save it from being losing the competition.

Sony poured quite a bit of money into the PS3.  One of the biggest mistakes they made was being the highest priced console out there.  Now MS is making that same mistake and is not making it very attractive either.  All the advertising money in the world can't break angst caused by the internet.  If MS were smart it would retract many of it's unpopular features while they still can rather than just trying to force customers into excepting it (on top of a price drop).

Shall not forget that MS will release Kinnekt on PC, too. So I consider that move as a sign that MS may consider PC as a retreat platform if X1 sales aren´t enough. I mean, why would you release Kinnect on PC if you don´t plan to release Kinnect games on PC ?

Another suspicious move is Sony´s. I heard rumors that Sony plans to release their new controller on PC as well. To release oficially, like xbox360 usb controller,

Well i would define the success of a console by its financial success. Fact is Sony didnt turn a profit from the PS3 until several years into this generation. The 360 was a huge success. Using your logic the success of a console is just measured on how noisy a particular fan base is on an internet forum, thats no measure of success in my book. The wii clearly won last generation yet ask a cow who won and it was the PS3 ask a lem and its the 360. in my book this gen it was the wii followed by 360 followed by the PS3. This gen I think it will be X1, PS4, wii U. As soon as MS kick the advertising campaign in to gear the tables will turn. p.s - Sony are broke. They need to win. hence why they are telling fans what they want to hear and playing it safe with the PSbore.

That's one way to look at it and you might be right.  They could be planning PC as a fallback option.  Historically though they have shyed away from PC because the opportunity for revenue isn't as high as it is with the console.  To me releasing the Kinect on the PC is just another revenue stream for them.  They know there is a market in PC for the Kinect (due to modders) and they are going to try and expand it.

Not saying if you are right that it wouldn't be good.  I think it could be a boon for PC gamers.  In fact if things really went south for MS and they did start seriuosly reinvesting in PC that could be a huge boon for PC gamers.  I am just more guarded about MS because they tend to focus on what makes them stronger not necessarily what makes their fans happy.

I wouldn't say they were broke, but they do definitely need to win back more market share to stay in the game.  They don't necessarily need to win, but if they stay in last place most of the gen again (doubtful) there probably won't be a PS5.  They will probably switch to 3rd party and wait it out a gen.

Yep. Probably to support multiplats such as MGS5 and hopefully FF15 (fingers crossed)

Will PC become even stronger if MS turns toward it again ?

never going to happen.

the entire point of the 360 was to not just hand peoples living rooms  over to sony and let them sell them things from their couches unopposed.

the living room as a revenue stream worth billions was the goal all along.

the x1 could be a god awful failure and ms would still not abandon the console market they will just start over at square one if the have to.

the market to sell people crap is just too large.

why do you think ms gives no fvcks about people without internet?

because those people are completely unimportant to the overall goal.

People dont like windows 8 because it was a drastic change....same reason people bash the X1...starting to spot the theme here??? Microsoft are trying to push boundaries... You dont have to buy into it...hell you dont even have to like it. But it will not stop me moving with the times.

Pushing boundaries at what expense? The customers rights and options? Bloody hell.

There is a difference between failing and killing your own device. Zune is one of the reasons I gave up on Microsoft in every thing but the OS sector.

Microsoft is a 250+ billion dollar corporation that is in the Xbox One business for the long haul, and will be profitable from day one as they are not taking a loss on te hardware side. MS isn't going anywhere and the Xbox One will, like all products if it struggles initially, get price cuts and make some changes. But if you think MS, one of the most aggressive companies ever on Earth is going to simply say we had a bad year and we're gonna walk away, you're crazy.

Only way they will feel anything is if the real gamers reach more non gamers to let them know about the XB1 and why it is very anti customer base and to contact publishers/developers to let them know they will support the PS4.

menes777

I don´t know if there is any corporation that can afford to lose money indefinitely. I mean, in some moment, teh money will be cut off by shareholders.

In terms of money MS is a giant.  They have revenue sources from Windows, Office, Servers, DB engines, services, .... So many that they are can afford to have one that is unprofitable just to retain some market share of that area.

Except nobody is going to do that. Eventually they would just change their business model or do something different. No company is just going to purposely keep losing money in a division just because "other divisions make money". That's rediculous. Eventually they would change their business plan. Look at how radical of change Sony has gone through since about 2009, that was directly in response to the early struggles of the PS3.

My guess is early on they will just throw money at it like crazy to advertise. So it is basically a battle of advertising $$$ having an effect on sheeples vs. knowledge customers that will more likely stay away until they change policy. I think definitely if they throw enough money at it, it won't be like Wii-U and just sit there on shelves. They proved with Kinect 1.0 that even total garbage can get some sales with a $500 Million ad budget. However I'm not sure that even a massive ad budget is going to overcome some glaring issues with this product, and they probably have to spend so much in adds that it will make the division a money loser... until they change their strategy that is...

boundaries of how far people will let their rights taken away by bad marketing? there is nothing innovative about x1, its tech its even lower than ps4 yet it infringes every consumer right. So if your future is having to pay for everything and having to ask permission to corporations to play what you already paid for because they didnt sell it, only lent it to you go ahead.

Why is it, then, that every online outlet selling XB1 reports strong sales?

You cows are pathetic.

LOL joke thread my ass. Have you been living under a rock this past month? It's so cute how you guys think MS can just throw ad money at it and make it a success. For you to even want them to win by taking advantage of ignorant shoppers instead of changing their shit policies goes to show how deranged lems are. Are you guys even gamers? Or paid MS shills? No gamer should want what MS is enforcing. Fanboy or not. Pathetic.
