I'm gonna go with Xbox One and Wii U on this one. Wii U had more exclusive games releasing this year while Xbox One show promise with it's games and price wise tat help it's sells.
Shows promise? That's your criteria? They ALL show promise....
Sane answers for the most part... Yeah, the Wii U had great exclusives and should be considered the winner (along with the PC seeing as gaming on PC is superior every year round...)
The ps4 vs xbone arguments just seem to be "who did worse" and trying to crown your console victor because hey at least it didn't try to force kinect on us, or hey at least it didn't have driveclub. Those are terrible arguments.
If the Wii U was first I wonder why I haven't purchased one yet? Maybe because IMO most of those game suck. I was stupid enough to get a PS4, I now have a total of 4 games. I have 19 games for the X1 so guess who I think won!
No one cares what you think, though. :)
Between my Wii U and PS4 it was Wii U by a country mile. Sure, I had fun with inFAMOUS Second Son, Trials Fusion, and Velocity 2X, but The Wii U had some genre topping hits this year with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Smash Bros Wii U, and Bayonetta 2.
PC for sure.
Right up there with Nintendo, but I wouldn't say "pc"--I'd say Nvidia. Actively looking to build up a machine atm. Small gripe with pcs are the amount of cards on the market. People seem to only review stats and not quality of the actual cards.
@Cloud_imperium: some people dont understand that others want something more than 2D sidescrollers, another Mario Kart, and another Super Smash Bros. My fave games this year would be Sunset Overdrive, Evil Within, The Crew, MK8, and Last of Us Remastered.
I haven't played Evil Within yet but I am interested. So, far games that I enjoyed the most in 2014 were Divinity: Original Sin, DA: Inquisition, Legend of Grimrock 2, This War of Mine, Wolfenstein, Bayonetta 2 and Shadow of Mordor. D:OS is my GOTY.
My most anticipated games: Witcher 3 (easily the most anticipated game, followed by), Squadron 42 Chapter One, Total War Attila, SC2: Legacy of the void, MGS V, Arkham Knight, Serious Sam 4 etc.
PS4 won. Xbone was second. Wii U was dead last.
Sorry, but lets look at wii u's line up....nothing until may 29th when MK8 came out. Same old boring mario kart. Then nothing until Smash 4 came out in december. That is a terrible year.
PS4 had a couple of quality exclusives, the best 3rd party games and tons of indie games. PS4 won. Deal with it.
Conveniently leaving out the only 10/10 to come out this generation. Classic move.
Wii U if you're not counting PC.
PC wins everything so its not really fair to even consider it.
PC is not a next gen game console. It's not even in the competition. lol!! Yeah, it has beaten the Mac every year though, so I guess that's something.
I do want a Wii U though, but I didn't see any real great deals on it in Nov or Dec. $300 is still to much for it, even with 2 older games. If they had included Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros or Bayonetta 2, I might have gotten it.

@stuff238: PC is a part of system wars so it definitely counts.
Well it's not a next gen game console, so it doesn't count when you are comparing game consoles. It really shouldn't be included in System Wars either. It doesn't have generations. It's not a stagnant system. It's not a closed system. For those purposes alone, I don't even bother comparing PC anything with game consoles.
Its subjective.
Wii got the best exclusives but close to none support from third party devs
PS4 proved to be a success and solidified as the main platform for third party devs. On the other hand, had the weakest first party lineup.
Xbox One is in the middle. Got more exclusives than PS4 but slightly less support from third parties
@blackace: luckily none of that matters and PC is part of system wars
Also, in SW PC is a single system. There is no PC vs Mac
There should be as Mac is really it's competitor until the Steam Box is released. Not PS4, XB1 or the Wii U. lol!! I can't run Office or Photoshop on my game consoles. There should be a Console Wars category.
@blackace: no to both of those. And both subjects have been settled already in SW.
Back in the day this forum didn't allow PC talk. It depends on who decides what I guess. But a gaming platform is only as good as it is to the individual gaming.
@stuff238: PC is a part of system wars so it definitely counts.
It shouldn't
care to explain why?
Because PCs are made by many companies. Consoles are made by one. Sales are factored, exclusive games are factored. PC can't win because there's no company making a system called PC. It's really one company vs another here. If PCs are to be involved, it would need to be called "Game Wars" since that's the only definitive thing that can be compared with PC and consoles. PC wins in the game category, but then that's each game developer winning there and not PC. Many companies sell PCs so that's not PC winning there either since many companies are winning. PC would need to be made by only one company to compete against consoles. It's really about which company is winning the game market and PC can't win because it's many companies.
@clr84651: too bad you can't play sales
Right, but sales are the definitive factor on which company is winning. A game developer wins when they sell the most software. A company wins when they sell the most hardware. A PC can't win since there's not a PC company. Many companies are winning off of PCs, from software & hardware.
Arguing PCs are better than consoles is dumb. Arguing trucks are better than cars is dumb. They are too different to be compared. Truck outpull andperform cars. PCs outperform consoles, but each is different and is good in it's own way.
Not counting PC
Exclusives: Wii U
Overall: Still PS4 - (better multiplats, 3rd party support, indies, etc)
Its strange why everyone is completely jumping into the WiiU bandwagon as if exclusives were everything. Its 3rd party support is still very poor. The console didnt won anything this year besides exclusives (wich werent THAT many)
PC had the most high rated exclusive games by a huge margin, and it also got the most multiplatform games of which it got the best version of all of them.
If you're an unbiased gamer then it's an easy pick.
You don't seem to be an unbiased gamer....

If you were an unbiased gamer the correct answer would have been all of them or gamers in general won 2014 unless you're that person who only owns one system...then I'd say it would suck to be that person(s) since there was plenty of games to play across the board.
Wii U but it took them over 2 years to get the games out.
They won't bring much out next year I don't think anyway.
As of right now as to what we know is coming out PS4 IS going to win hands down, but that's due to Microsoft not showing or giving any dates or confirmation for any games next year so we'll have to see

I still don't understand what does your standpoint regarding PC has anything to do with the fact the PC is a -> system <- that you -> play games on <-.
Great to see lots of love for the Wii U...And PC.

As of now, we have about 9 Wii U exclusives coming out this year. (2015) With more to be announced at E3, most likely
If your a brand new Wii U owner, you all ready have a crap ton of content available.
@Ballroompirate: how would gamers be the system winner for the year
If you get off tallying on exclusives then that's your loss. I own more than one system and have put about equal time into games on the 3 systems I own, cause as gamer I like options unlike some fanboys/fakeboys around here.
@Ballroompirate: the thread is aout which system won.
Gamers aren't a system, nor are any specific fan bases. I said PC won because it did objectively get the most games, and had the best versions of all 3rd party games (which tons of people are taking into consideration when dismissing the Wii U and its awesome exclusives)

Everything you just said is based off of a personal opinion.
Also way to ignore all the optimization issues those 3rd party games had along with their console counter parts like CoD AW, AC Unity, DA:I and Watch Dogs or people that quick to forget bugs and glitches in their games?
Happy New Year! 2015 will, (Hopefully), be the year of games. Should be great.
That being said...Which 8th gen system won 2014? Which system, by the end of the year, was the most "must have" system with "must have" games?
I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but, Wii U...All the way. Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros. Mario Kart 8, DKC; Tropical Freeze and more. Exclusives wise at least, Nintendo killed it this- er, last year. I expect them to do the same in 2015.
What do you think?
You know what is funny. The hypocrisy of sheep that is.
Last generation many people were stating that Wii wasnt the best gaming console simply because it lacked a lot of AAA titles , first and third party alike , so despite its awesome hardware sales wasnt actually the generation "winner". Sheep went super defensive , laughing about such statements all around net calling everyone butthurt because of Wiis success.
Now in 2014 that Wii U sales are as pathetic as ever despite the awesome titles ... Wii U won 2014 !! Whys that ?!! Wasnt all about hardware sales ? Now its only about games ? Hmmmm... Something is off with sheep here isnt ?
In my opinion , yes Wii U won 2014 by far ! But stop this hypocrisy and fanboyism .. Some people forget fast , some others like me wont. Now is only about games ...last gen was only about sales. Well ... Whatever.. Theres Zelda Wii U and 1-2 more games then Wii U will be in life support. Thats all. Quote that statement if you want for future discussion. 2015 will be the last Wii U active software year ... From 2016 will go in serious life support.
