SONY banned someone based on his real name

Hi all,

I Am 26 years old and my name is Jihad. Before you hate on me, please remember 26 years ago, this s**t was not like this. I've been named based on the true, non-religious meaning of the word, which is: Struggling & Putting an effort in doing something Noble, good and highly valued. Long story short, we're in 2016 :).

I'm really saddened to reach this stage of hopelessness in fair treatment without dealing with personal racism opinions. I hope if you guys would support me, I also accept if you disagree with me; just hearing me out is much appreciated.

I have been long PlayStation gamer, since the first one came out. Two months ago I pre-ordered Overwatch: Collectors edition, once I got my hands on it I played it right away. Three days in, I suddenly received: Permanent-ban email, stating reason is [BAN REASON]. (Yes, literally like this) I was furious, I had this account since PS3 came-out, I have purchased MANY games. Never cheated nor talked to anyone.

After couple emails and mentioning SONY in social media, they replied with this: on Imgur

And they offered me to change the name. (Which was -iJihad- BTW, same as here)

Couple days no reply, or anything, suddenly another guy review the ticket and decide he doesn't like my name and feel i'm truly offensive and revoke the solution to make the ban permanent!! Then avoiding my email! Email: On Imgur

Dear SONY

Why offer me a solution then revoke it because another Support guy doesn't feel he liked my name or background? This is far beyond any good support or professionalism.

Also Why, legally, using my actual name, which has multiple good meanings, is breaking of ToS, because (ONLY in the past few years) it catch-up a bad meaning in the media? I'm I really breaking ToS by using a good meaning word -which is my actual name- because after couple years it was abused in a horrific way (which i'm extremely sickened to hear about)?

I accept changing it and understand how people may find it offensive -only now-, but its not because it is an actual offensive word, its because only due to the media talks and how it is being used & framed in the past few years.

I can understand this happening. Meaning's change. The swastika wasn't offensive until after WW2. I am all for changing these words back to mean something nice instead of their kind of useless bad meaning but then you are asking us to change the world. That will take time. Sony should let him (for real this time) change the name. And advocating that these words or symbols can mean something lovely and positive is something he should continue to do.

@kvally: How is it sony dropping the ball for what might be misunderstood today as offensive content. It's a shame that this guys named is associated with such terrible things. But it's the internet everyone's an asshole and you never know what context things are in until you poke and prod at it.

What's really wrong here is that even after the poking and prodding and after coming to an amical solution, some other support person took offense and re-instated the ban. They can look into the guys previous history, which by the sounds of things will be nothing other than playtime and purchases.

In the first instance it's not necessarily Sony's fault, in the second it very much is.

At the very least Sony support need to re-instate his account and game privileges. If it means tweaking his name, then so be it as it looks like he's willing to accept that.

I've seen something similar in the past with a guy named Adolf.

This incident (not exclusive to Sony) is one of the valid reason for some being concerned about digital purchases.

Now that you mention it Kvally, I do remember MS also banned someone who happen to just put there location by the name: Forth Gay or something like that but that was a very long time ago on the Xbox 360 which btw was a real location going by the Gay name.

Problem is, His name probably wasn't an issue (and clearly it wasn't since he's had it for years) it was only because there have been recent Terrorist Attacks by Muslim Extremist and Mainstream Media that made his name seem offensive to most.
