I love how everyone here takes the "paraphrased" interview at face value, without no proof, or anything. For all we know, the TC took out vital text that the CEO said and cut it to make it sound like he was an evil man. Kind of like when FOX NEWS edited that Clinton interview a while back by leaving out his entire explenation when he was talking about how at least he tried, but failed to stop Osama before 9/11.reilo
Tretton: "Really? If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes I'll give you $1,200. (Then talks about how he can call any retailer and confirm that there are no PS3s on shelves anywhere in NA)."
That... is completely and utterly ridiculous. I want my $1200. How can you even say some preposterous crap like that... this goes right up there with "People need to work more hours to afford a PS3" and the "4D graffix!"

Lmao at this question...then the following
EGM: Say they've done checking around and PS3s are sitting on store shelves.
Tretton: Really? If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes I'll give you $1,200. (Then talks about how he can call any retailer and confirm that there are no PS3s on shelves anywhere in NA).
EGM: We just called 18 random locations (Best Buy, EB Games) and half of them had PS3s in stock - some as many as 20 units.
Tretton: We've shipped more than 1 million units to North America... (goes on to imply that retailers are probably lying on the phone about their inventory and backtracks and says that if only 9 out of 18 have PS3s then the glass is half full )
Pathetic.
It's sad how arrogant, ignorant, and in some ways unprofessional Sony (and this case specifically) has become (or even more so if you follow the belief they've always acted like this).

BTW another GS glitch, your lvl 1.
Sony's PR is the worst ever.TrueReligion_What PR? They just keep blaming other people, and deny everything. MS does similar things but atleast they don't lie, they damage control though.
[QUOTE="fixer293"]Pushing a format on it's customer for a rediculous price, and then get angry with them when said customers don't want it. When $400 gets you a system just as good ,with the option to upgrade it to HD.
Socrates88
Wow...I mean Wow, I'm lost for words. Pushing a format on customers. lol like they did with the CD and DVD? I bought the PS3, so he can't be talking about me "the customer who don't want it". And what if you want that option of HD DVD? Wouldn't it cost the same for a PS3? Yet, PS3 is a ridiculous price. Now with the upgrade of the HD-DVD I want online. What? I have to pay for online with the 360? Well, it's free with the PS3. Guess who paying more for a system using it's full potential.?
I'm going to say this as politely as I possibly can. At least the Xbox360 DID NOT SHOVE A PLAYER WHICH I DO NOT WANT. Hell, I have no need for an HD-DVD, and I have the choice of buying it or not. While you are "made" to buy it with the machine which costs $200 more, sure the 360 would also be $200 more with the HD-DVD, but at least I have a choice to see who is the winner of the HD DVD's. What happens if you buyed a PS3 which is pointless and dies out in 2-3 years maybe less, who knows. And you are stuck with "hopefully" Sony is going to keep supporting it no matter what (which they probably will), but you will be stuck with some old movies and the new movies going to HD-DVD. But I could be wrong, because you know cow logic is much greater than mine, after all at least I admit to speculation, you cows are certain of the future. Hope that "magic ball" comes in handy, when you will really need it.
ok yea sony is evil company and they lie and point fingers at other poeple. So? they stilling the number 1 console makers. fact is xbox 2 = xbox. Maybe if MS put a longer lifespan it would be a more reliable;e console. But I seriously believe that lemmings got screwed with xbox and they will with the xbox 2. ff7isnumbaone
And your cow logic is even worse, especially your signature. Please wireless network does not cost $100, and you DO NOT need to buy HD-DVD (optional), and the Xbox Live 12 Month is 68$ (CDN), that is 58$(USD). Your signature fails and so do you. And if we got screwed if Xbox 1, then your logic fails on how xbox 2 = xbox 1...that makes no sense (link me to this fact PLEASE)...The lifespan of any normal console is 4 years (approx.)...of course Sony will "develop for 10 years to come", please if you believe that, then you totally believe in what the PR is saying in EGM, which makes you = "a word I wish I could say"

But then again not every XBox owner need those extrasl ike wireless network, gold membership, and HD-DVD. At least we have a choice of not purchasing those. Instead, we get a Wii60, which is equal to PS3 60GB. Don't forget to mention that the HDMI cable is a necessity than an add-on like those on X360 making the price to $660 plus tax. Also, since it's PS3, you also need a HDTV that has a HDMI input. Not all HDTV has HDMI input like those DLP HDTV and the Sony LCD Wega.
So, who were the 100 Million people who bought the PS2, if not "society"? :| Sony PR is worthless.HeedleGlavin
When he referred to society he's obviously referring to like TIME mag, etc. People that obviously hate sony, Not regular peopl elike you and me

i wish i could take this bozo up on that bet. i can run up too the best buy and target down the street and show him 6 ps3 just sitting there. johnusabeis

Ummm, that is online shipping ONLY. And secondly, yes it would, Jack said that if you can show him one store that has a PS3 for 5 minutes or longer he will give you $1,200 (USD), so you fail.[QUOTE="Blinblingthing"][QUOTE="HeedleGlavin"]So, who were the 100 Million people who bought the PS2, if not "society"? :| Sony PR is worthless.Tulak_Hord

Wow you are getting sadder by the second. Grouping of individuals (i.e. North America) Common Interest = Gaming. I never knew that a magazine is a grouping of individuals, unless you mean a company and a group of individuals work there then sure you are right, but otherwise you are wrong, failed yet again, cow. Of course a magazine could be part of it, but nonetheless Jack would say Magazines if he meant them, and who do you think is buying the PS3's, the people working at TIME? Please, your blind fanboy logic is getting out of hand. And funny how you omitted, "A "Society" may refer to a particular people, such as the Nuer, to a nation state, such as Switzerland, or to a broader cultural group, such as Western society. Society can also be explained as an organized group of people associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes."

Well, what about the rest of "Society". Surely he wasn't jsut referring to those people specifically, otherwise, he would've said so, not made a blanket statement like that.

Wow Sony should just man up and admit they made a mistake with the PS3. I guarantee you i can find a PS3 with two hours if i drove out tomorrow morning and go to different electronic retailers.TM1I'm telling you, cows are soon going to be saying that EGM is biased and purposely put negative comments and/or statements, instead of the "good" ones, if there were any... -_-
I stand corrected. The TC was correct. I just received the latest issue of EGM and these are indeed the questions and answer. I'll type them out. Question 1: EGM: In all these years of covering this industry, we've only really seen one other system launch that had this much negativity surrounding it: the Sega Saturn. What happened? Jack: The problem we have... it's society in general. We've been the undisputed winner for over a decade now, and people keep waiting for us to slip up, ad we haven't, so people try to create stories that aren't there the reality is, by every measurement--and I would challenge you to come up with some negative ones--the PlayStation 3 was the most successful launch we've ever had. Question 2: EGM: Well, let's talk about that for a second, because, from our unscientific studies, it seemed like about 50 percent of the people in lie were there to make a quick buck on eBay. And now we're seeing a lot more units on store shelves. Jack: Really? EGM: Yeah. Jack: If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1,200 bucks for it. I can get any retail buyer on the phone with you and get them to verify that there's not a single retail location in America where there's a PlayStation 3 on the shelf for sale. They've all been sold in a matter of minutes. [Editor's note: This interview took place in early January 2007] Question 3: EGM: How come you weren't really able to push the UMD format with the PSP? Jack: The mistake we made in UMD as a movie format was assuming the movie studios understood our consumers and their tastes...that they knew what they were doing. They flooded the market with movies--I don't know that it was necessarily movies that appealed to our consumers. I know it wasn't at prices that appealed to our consumers. [I'd ask these questions] as a consumer: If you're charging me $19.99 for a DVD, why are you charging me $29.99 for a UMD? I'll pay 20 bucks for it--I'd certainly pay 15--but I'm not paying 29. And I'm not buying On Golden Pond. What we're doing now is we're going out and trying to educate the studios as to who our consumer is, and what their price tolerances are. We feel that UMD could be a viable format for movies on the PlayStation Portable if it's handled right. ------------------------- So the TC was correct. Jack Tretton really does put the blame on society for PS3's problems.Zhengi
What is SO ironic about that post and questions is that Jack promptly OWNED himself on the UMD and PS3. There he was talking about the UMD movie price structure and how it's priced out of consumer's price point and that Sony is now educating movie studios on how their consumers spend their money. and yet, conversly, he blames the PS3 problems on society and every other factor EXCEPT the price.........
...........Does anyone else smells a RAT?

What's funny is last generation EGM was so far up Sony's butt they knew what the daily Sony cafeteria lunch specials were. Di anyone remember the post E3 when EGM spent hours talking about the PSP and forgot to mention the DS?
For the 100th time, EGM is a bandwagon rag, they love the company that is in 1st and all other competition can never do anything right.....

I guess im a cow because I have ps2. But yea you dont have to get them but I would want to get them buddy. I like to watch movies and I dont wanna buy separate hd dvd/ blueray player. So my sig doesn't fail because one i got those prices off gamestop.com and you failed your responds was whack. And who said there was standard for lifespans. And if you go by those standards you will still be living in the past. I dont have to believe anything some1 from Sony because My PS and Ps2 last very long. Unlike my hardcore lemming homebois I didn't have to rush to buy a next gen console.
Ok let's start, since this looks like it will take a while. You are a cow, because you are agreeing to Sony even though they are wrong and are making ridiculous statements. Secondly, let me repeat this slowly, I have an option to buy the HD-DVD, if I really want it that badly, but since my DVD works just as good, that already comes with the Xbox360, I am fine, and not everybody needs a next-gen, so to speak, HD DVD player. Thirdly, Gamestop, from what I've seen, does not make "the whole gaming market", or simply saying, it doesn't mean that every store is the same and is based of Gamestop prices, and seeing as you are a cow, you will obviously try to go for the higher prices for the Xbox360 since you hate them oh so much.
About teh "standars for lifespans" I believe you stated in your previous post, that Xbox 1 and 2 have a short life span. And what does living in the past have anything to do with this? While Sony keeps milking the PS3, we will be on a more developed and enhanced and superior Xbox 3, while you are still stuck with the PS3, by Sony standards of course. And, of course I could be wrong, since what do I know, "I'm living in he past...". Lastly, I have never heard of anyone going back to their PS1, PS2, once they get a PS3, they sell those. Since the PS3 can play all PS games.
On another note, Xbox 1 came out November 15, 2001, while the PS2 came out October 26, 2000. A one year difference. And the PS3 came out  November 17, 2006, while the Xbox360 came out November 22, 2005. This time oppositely, a 1 year difference. Don't forget the first Xbox was the first of its kind, and was needed to be over with since a new generation was coming quickly, therefore, Sony fails at saying that the PS3 will be supported for "10 years", because they will probably be selling a new Playstation in 4-5 years, since that is their trend, as for the Xbox 360, I could probably say 3-4 years as well, as I do not have a "crystal ball" I would not know. Enough of my rant. Enjoy.
