[QUOTE="Taiko88"][QUOTE="TM1"]Wow Sony should just man up and admit they made a mistake with the PS3. I guarantee you i can find a PS3 with two hours if i drove out tomorrow morning and go to different electronic retailers.DXGreat1_HGL

I'm telling you, cows are soon going to be saying that EGM is biased and purposely put negative comments and/or statements, instead of the "good" ones, if there were any... -_-

What's funny is last generation EGM was so far up Sony's butt they knew what the daily Sony cafeteria lunch specials were. Di anyone remember the post E3 when EGM spent hours talking about the PSP and forgot to mention the DS?

For the 100th time, EGM is a bandwagon rag, they love the company that is in 1st and all other competition can never do anything right.....

If that is the case then how come GameCube had more GoTY titles than any other system?

Wow, what a *****. The launch day of the Ps3, Best Buy had 9 left over, they only recieved 12... And a week after launch I camped out for a Wii, they had a sign on the front of the door saying "We only have 3 Nintendo Wii's.
We have 26 Ps3's." I laughed so hard when I saw that.

So, Best Buy and Target in your Area would give a accurate picture os ps3 supply????

Best buy    sold out

Target sold out

Ummm, that is online shipping ONLY. And secondly, yes it would, Jack said that if you can show him one store that has a PS3 for 5 minutes or longer he will give you $1,200 (USD), so you fail.

You know how often I see sold out online???? That doesn't indicate to me they are just sitting idly in stores.

Do you think they ship the PS3's to you from the stores themselves or something? :?

Nope. I just saying, Its odd they'd sell out online, but just sit in stores :D

All quotes are from this month's EGM that I just got today in an interwith with Jack Tretton, Sony CEA CEO and President.

Note: EGM questions are paraphrased, Tretton's responses word for word (except stuff in parenthesis)

Question 1

EGM: PS3's launch has had the most negativity of any launch surrounding it, what happened?

Tretton: The problem we have . . . it's society in general. (then talks about how everyone wants them to fail but the PS3 was the most successful launch Sony ever had )

Question 2

EGM: Say they've done checking around and PS3s are sitting on store shelves.

Tretton: Really? If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes I'll give you $1,200. (Then talks about how he can call any retailer and confirm that there are no PS3s on shelves anywhere in NA).

EGM: We just called 18 random locations (Best Buy, EB Games) and half of them had PS3s in stock - some as many as 20 units.

Tretton: We've shipped more than 1 million units to North America... (goes on to imply that retailers are probably lying on the phone about their inventory and backtracks and says that if only 9 out of 18 have PS3s then the glass is half full )

Question 3

EGM: What went wrong with the UMD format on the PSP?

Tretton: The mistake we made with UMD as a movie format was assuming the movie studios understood our consumers and their tastes . . . that they knew what they were doing.

Ok, that's enough. Everyone should pick up a copy of this month's EGM - this Sony guy comes off as the typical Sony arrogant ass.gamerfan11

Me too, I thought PS3's were sold out everywhere on launch day and it took until mid mid december for them to be available in large numbers at least thats how it was here

Well that's because they are shipping PS3's to stores instead of holding them in their warehouses because more people do their shopping in retail stores instead of online.

I dont think that the PS3 will be the best launch because after all the hardcore sony fans who will go homeless to get a PS3 get one its a wrap for sony nobody else isnt crazy enough to spend $550-650 on a system and a game oops I almost forgot you need to buy your own hi-def hook-ups pardon me for a good hdmi cable it will be anywhere from $80-200 depending on the quality. And it is not society's fault why PS3 is getting negative criticism it is sony's for  throwing blu-ray in the PS3 making the price sky high(didnt DVD's just come out 7 years ago or something like that) but Sony needs to slow their roll make a regular PS3 without all the blu-ray crap and then they will be dominant like the days of old!!!

By the way Jack said he will give you $1,200 if there is a store that can hold a PS3 for more than 5 minutes well I know about 8 or 9 PS3's that have been sittin there at Target for weeks they try real hard to get rid of them too but no one is taking the $600 bait. So that means he should give me $16,800 because those have been sitting at target for at least just over 2 weeks!!!!

I just decided to send this e-mail to Sony....:)  I know I won't even get a response,  but I figured it'd be fun regardless.

the e-mails subject line is "Jack Tretton owes me $1,200."

When one of your idiotic PR tools goes and makes a comment such as "If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes I'll give you $1,200",  I expect him to pay up now.  In fact,  seeing how several stores have numerous PS3's in stock (and they've been in stock for days),  I'll be waiting on my check from that Jack.

Word of advice, Sony.  Tell your tools to keep their mouths shut.  As a company,  Sony has proven countless times that they don't care one bit about what the consumer wants.  Instead,  we have to listen to these puppets babble on and on about how the PS3 is something you should want to work two jobs for.  I won't buy a PS3 now and I will never buy a PS3 just because of Sony's arrogance.

I'll be expecting an e-mail back from Tretton himself as in regards where to send my check.

Yeah, I don't understand that "if you can find a PS3 in stock...." comment.  Dude, there are two at my local Wal-Mart.

I almost wish the interviewer had taken him up on that.  "Okay, car's out front.  Follow me."

Another thing - blaming society is such self-ownage.  What a tool.  "I blame society."

Sony LOVED society when they were on top last-gen.  The people aren't any different.  They just dropped the ball.

Yeah, even I, a Sony fanboy at heart, was very pissed off at Jack Tretton's comments in that article.  I just read it last night as well because I just got it.  He not only dodges some of the big questions, he lies about nearly every controverisal issue, makes himself look like an ass after EGM proved to him that EB/Gamestop has them stocked everywhere when Jack just said they are on shelves less than 5 minutes, and I also just hated the fact that he thinks Motorstorm looks "nearly identical" to the 2005 E3 trailer.  He's an a-hole and makes Sony look worse, and even makes Ken Kutaragi look reasonable.

Btw, amazing job by EGM as the first staff to not be intimidated by Sony, asking all the questions that have been on all of our minds.  I think Sony is pissed that the interview ran as the cover of their magazine, but they deserve it w/ remarks like that.

For anyone convienced EGM is a "bandwagon" magazine then I'd beg to differ. In last month's issue of the most wanted games this year "2008, best issue ever" they covered alot of Sony and multi-plat games. They did not seem to favor anyone, and gave MGS 4 a 2 page spread I believe. They only deliever more on what the fans need to know about, post E3 the fans wanted of the PSP and Sony wanted to know what the status on the system was. Also the DS didn't have the best showing, but that's okay cause they do their talking in the market, something Sony seems to forget these days.

All I'm saying is EGM goes to great lengths to be unbias. They gave MGS Portable Ops or whatever its called Game Of The Month last issue.

Exploding laptop batteries for example
user_nat
Extremely isolated events that they could have tried to deny until the end of time (only 16 incidents were reported with two minor injuries). Instead they pretty much told every company, okay..if you have the batteries recall them and we'll replace them at no cost to you or the consumers. The thing often missed here is that Sony was actually trying to offer the consumer a more long-lasting battery with that..they just went too far and there were issues because of that.
p>Remember the ol "our system can do 4d, the competitor cannot."Looks like the competitor is kicking their teeth in.

fixer293

The problem with fanboys is that they read everything literally and make up stuff where they can. This one falls into the former, but it was clearly just Kutaragi expressing his pride in the system, would you attack a man for expressing pride in something that wouldn't even have existed without his taking of the initiative?

I do agree though that part of Sony's failure is that many people do want Sony to fail nowadays, specifically in America.  And it doesn't help that the media finds every little negative to put on PS3 even when there is good news.  Jack Tretton is an idiot though.  They are riding too much on brand loyalty.

You'd think after the fall of their consumer electronics division, they'd have figured out that brand loyalty helps a little, but eventually better product will win every time.

Sony is that guy that whenever he's in trouble points the finger at everyone else. It's hilarious and sad at the same time to see a major company like this not being able to take the blame, yet trying to blame other people for their shortcomings. PS3's are stocked on shelves all over the US, no matter if Sony wants to believe that or not, it's fact. People aren't buying PS3's, UMD failed (and didn't make any sense), and Sony wants to blame everyone else but themselves. Cute, Sony, cute.

Weak sales related in good part to the price point, hes mostly spot on about that one. The thing I disagree with is that is can be a viable movie format when people are just transfering movies between their PC and Memory Stick.

Not entirely - in televisions, they've been doing better, but it ends there. VAIO's still aren't doing well, and it's music players are pretty much dead.

It's not Sony! It's insane xfans that want MS to win because they're perceived as an American company vs a Japanese company. It's gotten out of hand and is tatally obserd behavior.

actually that's may be right,
just think how much money sony is losing in every console made,around150-200$,
maybe they don't want to sell them because the only thing sony is doing at the momento is losing money at every console sold....

I'm not sure why anyone would say such stupid things to explain why they're getting owned this console wars. Blaming your own customers? Yesterday I saw a pile of PS3s stacked up in the front of the Best Buy. You know what? There wasn't one Wii. Exactly my point...

Well like the last guy that stood up for Sony CEO i gotta do the same. It kinda is society's fault. A lot of people have dissed the ps3 for being high priced, not like 360, well i never had a problem with ps2 or ps1 and i think a lot of people make stuff up just to diss ps3 especially people in these forums. So what if ps3 is priced 100 dollars more than 360 or they could've taken a lot of features off and price like the wii but that wouldn't be sony. Sony always makes the best products whatever it is

Exploding laptop batteries for example

That is a great value to the Terrorists in Iraq! It has The capbility to plan attacks, and doubles as an IED.

Looks like Sony is getting owned more and more everyday.

I can't see how people can ignore it.

That was friggin hilarious. What a moron that guy is. He actually called the EGM & Retail guys liars. I wonder if he paided them $1200. I would have asked for the money. He's worse them Dave Reeve with those comments. The UMD format failed because no one wanted to watch movies on a handheld game system. I could understand downloading trailers and short clips, but who wants to watch a full movie on such small screen? The format is slow as a snail. UMD failed. Blu-Ray is failing. What's next?

I thought it would be "society blames Ps3 for its problems" ......
I'm being sarcastic just to emulate the seeming endless sewer stream of bad press fanboys peddle.

What a lame-o...and a lame thread, while I'm at it. Where are the rest of his responses? I get the feeling you're misrepresenting the parts in parentheses...sorry if you aren't, but that's how it looks.

P.S. I mean Tretton's a lame-o -- not the TC. I saw multiple PS3s in three different stores just today....

Quick question. How can Sony blame society, when their job is to instill discipline into people. So Sony is basically admitting that they have failed.
