It's pathetic and saddening, and almost unreal to see something like this in western europe, but you gotta remember that it's only a small part of the population. There's no excuse for their behaviour. Mugging, looting and vandalising are not motivated by any greater purpose, these are just selfish thugs thinking they can get away with anything because there's a lot of them, I hope they're wrong.ManicAce
Plenty of excuses actually. I've predicted these events. It was pretty much inevitable with the way the police were treating the people, and the politicians ignoring the people. The situation was escalating continuously for a decade. Then it went okish as they were pulling back some of the CCTV ideas etc. but the country was a ticking bomb. I guess the economic situation and ideas for decreasing debt was the little thing pushing them across the line. They've been messing around with the UK citizens for a long time. At some point people will say no.
I don't think the UK will be the last country to see some uprisings.
I bet Belgium is next because they had some serious escalating problems as well.

Thing is, the guy who was shot actually shot the police :-/ thats what i dont get.

viper-kid

that is still unclear, no one knows who fired first or if he even had a gun. Guy was a father of four

Its still unconfirmed and since the police are staying quiet I would say they planted the weapon trying to make it seem like they shot him for a reason. Police are scum as well and a lot has happened against the black community (stop and search) that they are feed up. Then these whites are just trying to be cool.

Ok you keep figting the "good" fight might be wise to see the damage they are causing against their own community.

yup you just keep fighting that little good fight you've got there with your silly ideology.Police have been heavy handed but there is absolutely NO NEED for this behaviour at all and oh btw Totenham is actually a fairly mixed community most of the people regardless of skin coulour are doing this. Its hellish why people feel the need to act like this, theres many people who are appaled by this from these areas.

Still unbelievably its not even against police anymore, they are just breaking into shops and stores looting them? why are you thinking its all oppresion against a race?

but anyway keep fighting the good fight might be wise to throw the telly on and sit down with a cuppa and watch bbc news this morning.

tbh a lot of things got worse when the conservatives went into power for a lot of area's and its starting to come to a head in the likes of the London burghs where many services were cut and unemployment is high already.

Its the most useless government i have seen since i was a young one and John Major, least with Labour we seemed to move on a bit.Tories just seem to have cut everything in such a short space of time and its been hellish look at the military we have no Aircraft carrier and the smallest navy since before WWI thats not good for an island state thats just madness, Leuchers first response typhoons are being moved yet those sqns could be anywhere in Scotland regardless of eating/sleeping within 20min if they were needed.

Im not happy with this government on about every level Americans think they got it bad with Obama and the senate they havent been here...Brown had the right idea cut back slowly and lower it steadily to lessen an impact aswell as try getting the public spending to recoup through tax aswell, on top of that the FTSE was far more stable.

Were defo hitting an all time low for modern Britain this is the worst its been in my lifetime, hell my parents are saying this is potentially worse than the 80's.

I agree, that video of the kid getting mugged, just shows you how bad its got. i fear its going to get worse. the country will look like fallout 3 before the government grow a pair and actually do something.

Last time there was a depression on this level was the 1930's and look what happened, not saying that another ww would happen again but considering the whole way things are going nothing would surprise me.

Not racist, factual.

- Cops do tend to pick on minorities. No one would argue that they put them under far more scrutiny.

- Minorities in poor areas do have it bad, so do white people in poor areas, but they're often not put under as much police scrutiny.

- White guys trying to be cool? Not sure what that means, but Johnny Depp is cool as ****

lol. Take it however you want. The blacks have a reason to riot while the while the whites don't even the news is calling them 'copy cats' since the riots are meant to be in London not Birmingham or Liverpool.

apparently theresa may is talking about deploying water cannons if nescessary which is a good move, she is also 'unclear' about the use of the army so obviously the option is on the table if things get too bad, they are also flooding london with 16000 cops tonight, quite an impressive number, i say wait and see and try not to worry too much and be grateful we live in a country where the population doesn't have the right to bear arms, i do believe bringing in the Army is the best idea though, there is too much distrust between the police and the public but the public tend to trust and respect the Army and i know personally the Army will protect both sides from unessesary force but they won't protect property as that wil involve actually shooting looters.

They dont really have a reason to riot and loot at all.Theres protesting and bandwagoning and this is the latter.

Its terrible people need to act this way, they only inevitably shoot themselves in the foot as companies wont invest in the area, exaccerbating the problem meaning less jobs.

Its a shame you think this seems to be ok, look at the furniture store razed to the ground after being a buisness in their family for 5 generations that is a shame, did the blacks have a reason to do this? does anyone have a reason to do this? nope its just blatant idiotic opportunism.

As for the water cannons, i would rather they used bullets, but water cannons have got to better than simply standing behind a plastic shield and just telling them to stop doing it.

The obnoxious police force is one of the reasons things get out of hand :P Bringing in 16000 cops is going to get things 'under control' but will also permanently sway people to the dark side. They messed up and now there is no good way to deal with it. The army may be the only good move, I guess, but even then you only force people not to act for a while. It doesn't solve the problems.

but this ain't rioting, since when did rioting involve looting and mugging innocent, this is mindless thugs who see an opprtunity to steal loads of stuff and make peoples life a misery, this is the group of young kids down the park intimidating and hurting people on a larger scale, there is no excuse for this and this rioting should not be likened to what is happening in syria or in egypt, those people are putting there lives on the lin for the cause of freedom, the people here are just causing misery and heartache just for the sake of it.

this is true, in the long run things have to be done to build trust between the people and the goverment institutions in this country and the govermaent can start by growing a pair and taking on the banks and other financial institutions for causing this recession, it's very hard for people to stomach having to pay for the banks mistakes when they themselves are not paying anything for it and claiming huge bonuses.

yeah, exactly, you see The_Pacific, here in the UK, our regular policemen are armed with a stick and plastic shield, no guns. there are armed police, but they guard the airports and VIP's and tend to be sent to situations where criminals are armed. which would you prefer to have in your hand, Stick or / gun with rubber bulltes. i bet the stick is your least favourite....

i actually believe the police should be armed with real guns especially with the amount of criminals running around with them these days, the baton is just not an effective deterrant anymore.

Then we get the arguement recurring bout police being oppresive etc.But a higher prescence of police with guns wouldnt be a bad thing either, usually the Armed response team in Central scotland have it locked in their cars and only get them when needed and they are all locked up in the boot/special compartment. It would be wise to follow that ideology but on a more widespread manner as we only have 4 AR's to our police force i think sure the met has more.

Armed response officers were out at Waverly station on Sunday night and security in the station was more tight since there was a riot van parked up the walkway/road to the Princess Mall.

There is a reason the cops are not getting violent because it could turn ugly with the black community feeling like their voice is being silenced. A riot was bound to happen with all these cuts and unemployment for the young.

i actually believe the police should be armed with real guns especially with the amount of criminals running around with them these days, the baton is just not an effective deterrant anymore.

Armed response officers were out at Waverly station on Sunday night and security in the station was more tight since there was a riot van parked up the walkway/road to the Princess Mall.

increasing the number of AR's should be sufficient i would think then, sounds like they are actually more prepared in your neck o the woods than they where down here, good to hear.

There is a reason the cops are not getting violent because it could turn ugly with the black community feeling like their voice is being silenced. A riot was bound to happen with all these cuts and unemployment for the young.

viper-kid

you do know the cuts affect everyone right not just the black community?

Blacks arent being opressed, its actualyl a fairly multicultural riot and totenham like most of london is a multicultural place aswell as the British isles as a whole. On top of that i find your views sickeningly stupid and immature the way you are speaking bout this.

Nobody's voice is being silenced peaceful protests were fine and showed decorum and sensibility, theres protesting and then theres stupid opportunism and this is stupid opportunism NOT some way of getting our voice heard. One girl was interviewed on BBC and strangely white saying yeah were here fighting the rich and showing police we can do what we want just because we can, its no longer about the lad that was shot but a load of silly idiotic inner city teens thinking they are some invincible force and the Parents dont even get me started on why they are even bigger idiots for letting their kids out on the streets when they know this is happening.

What i find strange is theres been protests up here in Scotland but they never turn ugly.

[QUOTE="ManicAce"]It's pathetic and saddening, and almost unreal to see something like this in western europe, but you gotta remember that it's only a small part of the population. There's no excuse for their behaviour. Mugging, looting and vandalising are not motivated by any greater purpose, these are just selfish thugs thinking they can get away with anything because there's a lot of them, I hope they're wrong.KungfuKitten

Sir. I have a new found respect for kittens (the ones familiar with ways of Kung Fu that is.)

My views are reality, sorry humans ain't as civilised as we like to believe. This sort of stuff shows the true nature of humans and that is we are animals and always will be animals. The blacks started it in totts but now every race has jumped in, it takes one person to go on a riot then the rest will follow because they had the same feelings. At least today ain't as there are more police I surprised Luton didn't jump on this but it will be over in no time.

you realise thet the vast majority of the people in this country do not support these riots don't you? that's the reality of it, we are not all animals like the scum you see looting and stealing in london and other places, how many people are rioting? i happen to know that nearly half a million people have pledged to support the london met against this mindless thuggery.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not British, but I'm kinda familiar with those 'minority' sentiments. Don't get me wrong, sometimes things tend to be very racial indeed (heard some stories from my nephew in France a decade ago), but things seem to change...

There are certain groups that really like to emphasize just how oppressed or just discriminated they actually are, whereas all 'the problems' they currently 'endure' are not racial at all and hurt other people in those neighbourhoods just as much. Instead of trying to make something out of their lives and break out of that vicious cycle they reinforce and strengthen their 'bad' position and are as a result sometimes put under stricter scrutiny.

If you guys are so much against the riot why are on here instead of helping met 'clense' the streets? why are the so called good guys not going in the street to save businesses and homes instead of watching and talking on forums?

The same could be said about you?

The riots are pointless, and completely wrong. There is no justification for destorying the lives of innocent people. Minority opression isn't great, no one is claiming it is, but there are other ways of going about things. This will just help morons like Nick Griffin convince people his ridiculous ideals are correct.

Here is a video of the Sony distribution center on fire

video

Since Sony has repressed the community there so much I am glad to see the people take action against Sony. I mean that is the excuse of the riot defenders that they are just angry over being repressed. So that would either mean Sony was doing the repressing or they are just a bunch of violent thugs.

Seriously though this is disgusting. It is even worse people try to make excuses for it with racial excuses, economic excuses, feeling repressed excuses. For example the job excuse well now all the people that worked at that Sony building do not have a job either or any of the other buildings. These are not people trying to change something they are just criminals trying to burn down a city. The culture is so dang PC people are allowed to get away with this.
