Again, twist and try to reason with it all you wish. 2010 still comes before 2011. The least you could do to attempt to help your argument is link to Nintendo's patent showing they had the idea first......oh wait, you can't because Sony beat them to it. Have fun in your fantasy world there junior.AmazonTreeBoa

Twist and try to reason? That patent shows it's an AR machine. Not a controller like what Nintendo has presented. It has nothing to do with using it as a common controller or with a DS-like function.

So, yeah. It's not even the same thing. You should at least read the damn thing.

That doesn't mean they came up with the idea first. It means they put it on paper and submitted it. Patent =/= reveal, or invent. Don't see how that's so hard to comprehend. Companies sit on patents and never do a damn thing with them.

Butthurt? You had an outburst for no reason. I'm not butthurt over anything.

Since it's nothing but a giant AR machine, one could say they copied Nintendo's AR features for the 3DS and applied it to that thing and Vita. This was filed after E3 anyway.

Because we all know that it takes less than a year to have development kits sent out and demo systems up and running right?

I am sorry, but did you say something? Because at this point all I am hearing from you guys is "blah blah blah :cry::cry::cry: blah blah blah". Get over it. Sony didn't copy Nintendo with this.

It seems Playstation suffers from the biggest identity crisis in video game history. They copy everything they can, but rarely does it do well.

While in the another division, they develop this as an xray machine for airport security, and sell it to hospitals for mammograms.

The only buthurt fanboys are the ones who were laughing at Nintendo for having a touchscreen controller, then turn around and say "Sony didn't copy Nintendo, Sony did it first!" Truth is, PS4 will have a touchscreen controller, with obvious resemblance to the Wii U but dumbasses will still deny the source of inspiration.

The Move was also patented way before a the Wii was announced...but everyone is quickly to forget.
Same as this, for the lay people it's as if Sony copied...but in reality a lot of companies borrow ideas from each other.
And who knows, maybe this is just a peripheral kind of thing instead of the gimmick Wii U is going for.

You do understand that patents are not always implemented, right? And if Sony was copying, they'd have lawsuits up the ass right now from Nintendo. They're not though, which means they already had patents ready to counter something Nintendo would offer.

Indeed, if Sony would try anything along the likes of Wii U...they'd go with the VITA as tablet controller. The VITA also has touchscreens and pressure pad on the back, making it actually better than an oversized Wii U tablet.

Agree with this.

The Wii U controller at the moment is too big. They should downscale it.

patent whatever you want, sony was unwilling to put the money on it until the wii proved to be a success. the move (or the "zomg we need motion controllers too" sixaxis) would never exist if the wii hadn't existed.

Well, they are clearly going for a tablet audience with the Wiiu otherwise they wouldn't have a tablet as the controller. The touchscreen itself is not the gimmick, it's the idea that a tablet-design will make people interested in the product.

A gimmick = What makes our product unique enough to get people interested. Tablets are the new thing right now so it's only natural for a company to use that as a gimmick. Gimmick =/= Bad.

Nintendo always relies on gimmicks, was anyone screaming for a tablet like controller in the gaming industry? No, and I really hope ****c controllers and wiimotes still work with the Wii U. I actually hoped for Nintendo to make comments about how they're going to deliver a online gaming network with the Wii U, make some comments on how they're going to have a decent 3rd party support for the first time or even how they're going to make new IP's. But nope, we got this cool tablet like thing and zomg its innovation! Nintendo will always be a company that produces gimmicks instead of improving on games. I don't need "innovative" horizontal and *gasp* even vertical slashes with Skyward Sword...I can do that with the simple press of 2 different buttons if you mongrels program it right...time to throw some innovative shurikens with the next Zelda I guess.

BrunoBRS

Not really. You just took a picture and then the game used that picture. There wasn't games that used the camera in direct gameplay like AR games does.

You could argue that the filters you could add before you took the picture were AR but every digital camera has had those and they were not games.

Quick fact. Touch screen is not a gimmick anymore. It once was, but now it's as common as dirt, prevalent in almost every electronic device. They had 1 hour to unveil a new console, which wasn't even supposed to be announced how much did you expect. And apparently, you didn't watch t did you? If you did, you would've seen large numbers of 3rd party developers announcing their support for the Wii U, and Nintendo announcing that all wii peripherals would be compatible with the wii U. But in your world, any form of change is a burden apparently. Where were you when the analog stick was announced? "durr, I can do all that with a dpad." Also, they have already announced that they have a unified online structure, and that Miyamoto is working on brand new IP's.

Probably. If this were a blatant copy of something else, how would they have gotten an official patent for it?

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="zarshack"]In all seriousness i expect some great things from vita-ps3/4 connectivity.

zarshack

which reminds me, nintendo has been doing handheld/console interconnectivity since the SNES :D

I can't even think of many things they did beyond pokemon cartridge adapters, tingle tuner, and Zelda four swords GBA controllers. What else did they do?

on the SNES you had the "super game boy" which allowed you to play gameboy games on the big screen (plus toy around with the image, which was always entertaining :P) the N64's gameboy pak was used in more than pokemon. one example i can think of the top of my mind is mario tennis. the gamecube had so many it's not even funny. an overlooked feature is the rough edges of "free DLC". you could connect your GBA to the gamecube when running one of the many bonus discs you'd get by pre-ordering the game, and you'd receive a bunch of content for the game (my mario kart bonus disc came with a bunch of fire emblem items, for example). as for games, i'll just say final fantasy crystal chronicles, because that is one of my favorite games to make use of the functionality. the wii slowed down, but you could download DS demos from it, aside from a few rare games (pokemon battle revolution and other pokemon games) that used the compatibility. the wii u already promises compatibility again, with smash bros getting both a console and a handheld version, and a promise of compatibility being used somehow.

I remember there being some sort of GBA connectivity with Crystal Chronicles. I never even knew about that SNES thing, i don't know if it was ever available here in Australia.

The PSP had AR so no not really.

BrunoBRS

Not to mention EyeToy games counts as AR too, but i bet if you go back in time where technology was looking on idea of virtual reality you would find some primitive form of AR there too

you mean like the minigames from the gameboy camera?

No, as i see on YouTube this minigames was just about making pictures of you face to be included in the game, in talking here about viewing content attach to view of caera or interact with that content with you body like EyeToy.... yea EyeToy is diffrent thing a little then stuff we got now, but EyeToy technology have same principles as AR that we have today
