I didn't buy a PS3 or 360 to play my PS2/Xbox games.

[QUOTE="TheEroica"][QUOTE="DanteSuikoden"]I think people are more irritated because we live in a world where I can buy any android device and/or apple product and have all of my stuff easily slide into each device at no extra cost... The fact that people wont be able to slide over hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of software they purchased in this day and age is becoming unacceptable. I can see logistically why it cant happen for PS4, given the coat hanger abortion known as the Cell, but it would be really great if Xbox720 allows it. ...If keeping your ps3 is an issue, then people should be fortunate that this is a horrible situation that they need to whine about it. not sure i follow...Why do people act like they just can't keep their systems? If you didn't have it in the first place then you probably don't really care about this feature.

Its ironic that everyone bashed Nintendo for their lack of accounts on Wii/DSi for digital content yet they pulled off transferring everything to Wii U/3DS yet Sony is blocking all PSN content from playing on PS4 and PS3 content will only play theoretical via streaming which most likely will be hidden behind a paywall somehow.
So Nintendo transitioned the right way and let's you keep your DSi/Wii content despite having to work around a complicated non-account system yet Sony had an account system on PS3 yet you can't use PS3 content on PS4.
At least PSP content transfers to Vita I suppose.

and then when that old console breaks you'll have to hunt down a used one through Amazon or Ebay without knowing if it's gonna last or if it even works. That's why BC is important. Maybe not for a closed minded peasant like you but for retro gamers and to conserve gaming culture it is important. And beside, who wants to have a mess of like 10 consoles connected to a single TV? Then you'll have PS3, Xbox, Wii, Wii U, PS4, X720, PS2, etc. So why Sony can't put BC in the stupid thing? Like if they couldn't emulate the PS1 and PS2 at least....
If people didn't care about BC they wouldn't waste money on the HD collections and digital re-releases and that's the problem. They want to milk us.
#FIRSTWORLDPROBLEMSwell, technically what  other problems are going to be on here?this is not  i don't have any clean water in my village wars.
if it was we would all be, pfft! boiling? that's stupid! chlorene ftw yo! chlorine? yuck! forced filtration or nothing noob!
why? says who? I personally wish to subscribe to the notion that buying into a specific consoles future should also enable me to keep the experiences Ive already purchased and move forward with them... I'd love to sign into my next gen console for the first time and all my last gen purchases come up with a download prompt next to them... Im not done playing the great games of last gen.I didn't buy a PS3 or 360 to play my PS2/Xbox games.

I undserstand phasing out backward compatibilty slowly on newer versions of PS3 as the PS3 library swells, but what is Sony's excuse for not providing BC along with the launch PS4's?
Now its not tottally hopeless though as SW emulation is still discussed...but a native BC would have been handy, what say guys?
Getting PS4 on launch though.....

Turn it around. What reason would Sony (or MS) have for making the PS4 backwards compatible. It doesnt really help them sell more PS4's, it would most likely hurt the sale of PS3's, it adds additional engineering costs, it makes testing the machine a lot harder since you now have to worry about a ton of old games that might or might not work on a completely different system.
So, while BC might have been handy for players, it would just be an additional headache and potential loss of revenue for Sony.
It is pretty upsetting for me. I'll probably just buy another PS3 (old one died) when it hits $99-$149 this black friday and wait 2-3 years on PS4 if at all.Â

plus i have played piles of old games on both the 360 and ps3.
hell, i just replayed fear effect on the ps3 last week and gta vice city and gta3 on the 360 the week before.

Between my full-time job and being a full-time student I don't think I could fit in a second job but thanks for the suggestion.
BC isn't necessary for the PS4 to succeed. People didn't buy the Wii to play Gamecube games and despite that PS3 was BC with the greatest game library of all time it wasn't moving units until they dropped the hardware and released the slim. Cheaper console > BC for a system I already own. I'd rather see the PS4 move more units and consequently gain more dev support then have a 599 repeat.
man..if there was just a way to play old games..hummm...how can we do this??.. ....OH YEAH,.thats right,..play them on your PS3...DUH!!..I think I figured it out..all praise me..:?Â
That's why you get a PC... Can play all your games from years and years ago and then you get a PS4 for its exclusives.
PCgameruk
ive ran into plenty of issues on pc trying to play old games..always a workaround..and what does that have to do with bc for ps4?

You can afford a PS4 then. Buy a PS3 now and a PS4 this next winter.

So you're telling me what to do with my money?I never said I couldn't afford a PS4, I just don't have the desire to pay $400+ for it since it will suffer long drougts without games (all launch consoles do for their first year before things pick up) and since I don't like a whole lot of Sony's IP library. I'm interested in Uncharted and Sly Cooper but for the most part Sony's IPs like God of War, Starhawk, Socom, Killzone, Resistance don't interest me whatsoever.
So I'd rather go for a $100-$150 (theoretical PS3 black friday prices) that has a 7 year catalogue of games to play. I never got around to the Uncharted series much and wanted to play it but then my PS3 died. I'd also like to play Ni No Kuni, Okami HD, and Sly. Other than that I'm not terribly interested in Sony's shooters or more 'mature' IPs personally.
That's okay. I still have my PS3. I hope Sony continue selling the PS3 like it did with the PS2 just in case my fat PS3 croaks.
good luck rebuying your entire ps3 library , im buyin a ps4 just for ps4 games , not that im really that hyped for itÂ

What about all the multiplats? You think you will want to play the bottom of the barrel versions of Watchdogs, GTAV, Battlefield 4? PS4 seems like it will have a lot games in the launch window.

So what if I do want to play those version? Are you going to tell me I'm stupid or something? And to be fair only Watch Dogs has been announced for PS4. I already have a Wii U for Watch Dogs anyway which looks far more intuitive using the Wii U Game Pad if done right.
GTA V I'll probably buy on my 360 when its cheap and BF4 I have no interest in at all.
How can you say the PS4 has a lot of games in its launch window when the only game confirmed is Killzone and maybe Knack? (Knack looks very cool btw)
I could care less. It's not a feature I would use. And if woulda raise MSRP more than $10 then they made the right decision.
.. Just another reason why I love pc gaming.. Â If only console gaming could be as backwards compatiable as the pc.. Â
I'd be prepared to pay a premium for backward compatibility.
Â
If they were to offer two different packages, I'd pay extra for full PS1-PS4 compatibility. If it could be done for under $50, I'd definitely go for it. If it was an extra $100, I'd still consider it.
Â
There's a big opportunity to bring in those who skipped the PS3.
seems sony isn't give us much of anything lately except for disappointment after disappointments. what happened to them? :(
yeah because the first thing i want to do when i get my PS4 is play PS3 games on it
I just want new PS4 games and Sony never disappointed since it always supported its consoles with many 1st party exclusives!!
With the new architecture it's impossible for backwards capability , the only way they could do that again would be to go back to cell and developers whine and cry when forced to work with the cell. You want to blame someone blame the developers for crying about the cell so much Sony finally had to give in.Shielder7
No, blame Sony for going with the cell architecture instead of going with something like the x86 architecture in the first place this gen.
[QUOTE="Serioussamik"]To sell some more PS3. More importantly, to re-sell game in digital form (or via Gaikai rental service)what is Sony's excuse for not providing BC along with the launch PS4's?rjdofu
Â
Thats why ill be so glad i did not sell my PS3 when i get the PS4... just have the other system to play your older games. There should be no reason not to own one by now, each system has awesome games, well except the Wii U which i would not touch with a stick.
It is sad.
Honestly just think of how many consoles you need to own to have access to every console game in history.....
My entertainment center just isn't built to hold that much stuff. Every little bit helps.
[QUOTE="Heil68"]Ill take the advantages of going to new architecture than have bc, besides if Sony says its the best direction to go, then by only it is. xhawk27

It's disappointing, but not a deal-breaker. I have most of my games backwards compatible on my PC anyway.
