That's nice. 360 still had/has a high failure rate I'm sure.

You must be very unlucky man, my PS3 runs just fine, so did my PS2 back in the day, and my other PS2 that I have now is also fine (making weird noises, but still. and I kinda have myself to blame for that)

There is no imo about it. The 360 has higher failure rates then the PS3. The PS3 has higher failure rates then the Wii.

'Imo the PS3 has sold more then the 360.' Just because you say imo doesn't mean you can say anything. It just doesn't work like that.

If you include the previous gens, sure. The ps1 and 2 were extremely unreliable. I remember a lot of people had to orient the ps1 at some weird angle on its side to keep it from overheating.

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/jul07/07-05warrantyextentionpr.mspx

'"The majority of Xbox 360 owners are having a great experience with their console and have from day one. But, this problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologize," said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices Division.'

http://gizmodo.com/5015483/microsofts-1-billion-xbox-360-recall-problems-caused-by-chip-cheapness

"Microsoft's red ring Xbox 360 problems have cost the company about a billion dollars in warranty repairs, but the research vice president and chief analyst at Gartner said that the hardware problems were caused because Microsoft wanted to be cheap. Instead of using an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) vender to make a graphics chip for the 360, Microsoft decided to design it themselves and have Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing create it. This saved "tens of millions of dollars" in design costs. Yes, only tens of millions."

..

Yup.

Your anecdotal evidence doesn't amount to anything meaningful. The 360 has a higher failure rate, period. Whether your opinion on the matter is different or not means nothing.

It's technically impossible for me to agree more with you here, i have had one of every console and not being waterproof does not warrant a tally in the "Sony failure" department, clearly the TC just has no care for longevity or money... probably his mother buys them all.

If the Xbox 360's failure rate utterly blows the PS3's out of the water like everyone says then I must live in the twilight zone because I still have yet to have my Xbox 360 break down on me yet my week old PS3 is freezing up a storm.

But the PS2 had a well known issue with its discs drive. You could literally damage it by just playing DVD movies on it... What PS2 you had? Cus I don't know a single person online or in real life that had a fat PS2 that lastesd them more than 4 years.

And to that add the first revision of the PS2 slim that came without fans so no matter how much you took care of it sooner or later the console was going to die of an overheat.

Yeah you must be living in the twilight zone of the other 60-80% of the Xbox 360 owning class that hasn't ever had a system break down. The point is anything greater than 3% is considered an unreliable product by consumer product standards. That still leaves you in the massive majority even with something with stupid high failure rates (25%).

Funny how my 14 years PS1, 10 years PS2 and 4 years PS3 still alive while I went through 2 360s (the only console which I had to rebuy in whole life my NES, SNES, Mega drive, Dram cast and MSX still alive till this day).

Damn straight. You know it's funny, my PS2 has been knocked down several times by idiot family members in the eight years that I've owned it and it still functions just as good as the day I got it yet the PS2 was considered to be one of the most faulty products. Weird huh? MY original 60 GB PS3 is still running strong though I'm going to open it up and replace the thermal compound and the power unit in a few months just to make sure it keeps running until the company discontinues the PS3 all together.

i believe that ps3/360 are failure rates are more effected by playtime. These systems get very very hot, my launch system lasted until i got gtaIV and didn't stop playing for a week.

these systems are much much more susceptible to ambient room temp, airlflow in the room (my 360 can actually work as a heater in my room), and just average temperate of where you live.

The more you play, the hotter it gets, eventually it will kick the bucket. And people who think the 360 was rushed manufacturing, its not, the type of metal used to mount the chip wasn't as good at handling the heat, but at the time, that was standard for chips, ATI/NVIDIA both had a line of cards that failed for the same reason but in the general desktop case ATI/NVIDIA just changed the specs of the cards when they changed the metal. Unfortunately a console is stuck with the specs and any changes made prior to the release will be kicking dev's in the nuts. So microsoft was stuck with it.
