I see that the 360's reliability is once again under attack by ignorant posters here in System Wars!

I see people still like to pretend the 360 failure rate was never terrible.

What? Did you click the link and read it? BTW.. I've gone through 5 360's in 6 years! The whole '360 = RRod" argument is total weak-sauce now since the arrival of the new 360 S consoles, and makes the user look foolish.

I hate it when I see gamers put the blame on companies for their poor skills at taking good care and using good judgment on handling their consoles properly.

Case in point, my buddy had his Xbox 360 sitting on the carpet caked in dust and appeared it hasn't been cleaned in about a year, and he complained why the system wasn't working properly.

-Don't spill or place liquids on the console

-Wipe the console down with a microfiber cloth to remove dust buildup

-Place the console in a well ventilated area

-Give the console a rest break after at least 4hrs (that's just me)

-Dont drop, bang, or abuse the console

Follow these steps and you wont have to make posts like this people....

[QUOTE="bigM10231"]

seriously. i have gotten 3 to 4 ps1s(most recent can barely read a game) 2 PSOnes (one still in use), 3 PS2s(one water, one power, one still in use) and now technically 2 ps3s(1 BR player, now the YLOD). how many do you want to know of other companies?

1 snes, 2 n64, 1OG GB, 1 genesis, 1 DS 0 for everything else

sadly this

fanboys want this though but i never got it

lightleggy

1N64, 1 PS1, 1 genesis, 1 PS2, 1 ps3, 1 pc...take care of your stuff...btw it seems as if your consoles no longer work because you screwed them...why do you blame the company for that? its not like they do indestructible consoles... and even if the consoles didnt stopped working because of you, you would only be part of the unlucky 1% to have a defectuos sony console...while the xbox has rates like over 10%

i never treat my consoles bad or beat on them dude. the snes died of age, the n64s of jealousy of a friend, the gb stopped displaying anything, the genesis was a liquid fate but that happened like a month after the spill. the ds had a bad lower screen where everything was fog white, came at random. the ps1s were laser issues the PSOne was power

All the PS2 ones were your fault. The PS3 ones were probably similar. It's not Sony's fault you can't take care of your own ####.

While I love my 360, and prefer it over my PS3, there is no way that Sony comes in as the least reliable console maker. We all know Microsoft made a big mistake with their RROD debacle, therefore taking the corrective measures to ensure they kept their users happy, but that incident alone probably had more consoles fail then all of Sony's combined. I only know 1 friend of mine who's PS3 failed, which it was his bluray drive, but that's it. I love games in general, and I'm glad Microsoft fixed their issue, but to say Sony is the least reliable is a bold statement, opinion or not.

Oh, wow, since the arrival of a new system in 2010, the entire past 5 year history of the 360 is now eradicated, along with the existence of tens of millions of fat Xbox 360s. The article you linked even said that their fat 360 red ringed before the fat PS3. And it also qualifies the difference by saying that the PS3 might have had a lower shutoff point. It might have of course had higher temperature output, which is understandable given the hardware, and good circulation is stifled significantly by doing what they said they did, putting it in a cabinet. They said neither model exhibited damage. Obviously the article is good news for the 360 S model, and it indicates that the problems have been resolved for NEW purchasers of the Xbox 360, but it also confirms that the PS3s never had reliability problems and that they've been staved off further by the PS3 Slim. So after 5 years of the fat 360 model and after a billion dollars in repairs covered by Microsoft, I think that the entire industry is still fully aware of 360 reliability issues, thank you, Jasper/Falcon increments in hardware improvement notwithstanding. The discussion here is not "which is the most reliable console" anyway, it's "which is the most unreliable console maker." RROD is entirely relevant.

I have a lot of systems, from NES - Wii/PS3, and the only thing I've ever had two of was a DS

Or you can count Gameboys, because I had GBA, GBASP, and I had a DS Phat, but the left trigger button wasn't working a lot, so I decided to upgrade to a DS Lite. And I actually have my Fat DS still and still play it, so...

Bad Luck for you? Good Luck for me? You simply don't take care of your stuff?

I sure do! I also had to do it with the Sega Master System ones once in a while, but the original NES cartridges were notorious for that.

I remember doing that for both NES and N64, I still have to do it for the N64 because I like to go back to it.

What's your point? It's unreliable because I have to blow on the game? At least it still works.

1 NES, 1 SNES, 1 N64, 1 PS1, 1PS2, 1 NGC, 1 PS3... the trick is to actually take care of your stuff, you know??

Damn straight. You know it's funny, my PS2 has been knocked down several times by idiot family members in the eight years that I've owned it and it still functions just as good as the day I got it yet the PS2 was considered to be one of the most faulty products. Weird huh? MY original 60 GB PS3 is still running strong though I'm going to open it up and replace the thermal compound and the power unit in a few months just to make sure it keeps running until the company discontinues the PS3 all together.

Yeah. Its funny because my Saturn, Dreamcast, N64, Turbo Grafx 16, and Genesis all fire up to this day, with no problems. I guess it goes with the old saying, "They don't make them like the used to."

Why don't you get it? They both suffer from pretty much the same problem anyway. The crappy lead-free solder thats breaking up inside of them due to the hot and the cold. They have to put this crap in them by law. Some people just think it's not going to happen to their consoles but it will. There is no escaping the YLOD no matter how much you take care of your console. Same goes for RROD.

Geeze don't you people get it?! Kevin Butler ran into his house to do another Montage and through the might of his awesome he accidentally spilled the magical glass of water that some Sony rep put next to his Playstation when no one was looking. But their plan backfired as the glass was supposed to hit the 360 instead. Darn it Sony!

For me personally, Sony has the worst track record, they have made 3 gens worth of consoles and 2 of those gens (PS1 and PS2) were just junk. I went through 2 PS1's and 3 PS2's but my launch PS3 works great. While MS has a slightly better percentage as the original Xbox was great but I have been through 3 360's so for me there record is 50% compared to Sony's 33%.

one thing is fact is that the GCN i have, the controller pulled it and it quit but hitting it on the ground made it work again

bigM10231

I think this is true for all nintendo products. A good banging seems to make their stuff work again. I remember reading something about someones Wii remote acting up and the customer service rep told them to just bang it in their hands and it worked.

False. The 360 has the highest failure rate of any console, period. I'm glad we could clear that up for you.

Can't argue numbers though, my man. 360 biggest hardware failure in gaming history.

I've never had any problems with any previous consoles. 1 SNES, 1 PS1, 1 PS2, 1 GBC, Unfortunately this gen I have just had my 2nd PS3 failure, first it wasn't reading discs at all and now it got RLOD. But I would not say Sony is the least reliable console maker. Especially in a market with the 360.

Equipment failure sucks and it seems to be getting worse the last 2 generations. Xbox is the absolute worst. The original Xbox was a terrible beast of failure, and we all know how terrible the 360 and the RRoD has been.

I still have all my working video game systems from the 1980s-- some of it over 25 years old: Texas Instruments, Sega Master System, Genesis, Gameboy, Gamegear, and NES. Yet my Xbox couldn't make it past 1-year and my brother's 360 didn't last more than 6 months.

Thankfully my PS3 and 360 have been holding up so far, but I wonder how long they will really last-- and it sucks because console makers are so loathe to include backwards compatitibility in their systems anymore. In the next-gen where our stalwart PS3s and 360s that actually survived the generation begin to fail,we will be SOL-- we won't be able to play any or our old games until we buy another system.

So funny u mention this. Was showing my 10 year old nephew my NES at my folks house on thanksgiving (kind of a gaming history lesson for him). Couldn't believe the thing still works. He turns to me and says "my dad needs to fix my 360." Humorous.

I've taken care of every console i've ever owned and have had 3 RRODs. But I have a 360 slim now, so hopefully it won't ever happen again.
