Is anyone surprised by this?

Why?

[QUOTE="Gizmodo"]"We have decided to release the Motion Controller in fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users," says Kaz Hirai, boss of Sony Computer Entertainment. "We will continue to work to have a comprehensive portfolio of attractive and innovative games for the Motion Controller, not only from SCE Worldwide Studios but also from the third party developers and publishers, whom we have been working closely with. We look forward to soon unveiling the exciting software line-up that further expand and define the PS3 platform as the ultimate entertainment system for the home".

So, thoughts? Probably a blessing more than anything. Need that support!!

Sony loves Delays. See GT5 for more details.

EDIT- In all seriousness though, Sony probably found some HUGE bug in the design, or, like you said, they need that support from the devs.

Yeah, I don't get why they bothered with the Q2 release date in the first place -- even if it was on schedule they probably would have held onto it until the holidays anyway.

If there wasn't going to be many games taking advantage of it when it would have been released, then it's smart. No point to some hardware without any software to back it up.

This has already been posted in SW.

Link to 'The Sony Motion Delay Thread.'

As far as the delay...if that's what it takes.

This project and Natal aren't interesting until they unveil real AAA exclusive game software, not ports or shovelware. The real issue is showing off WHY we want these products.

This isn't Sony's first RODEO when you look at the Eyetoy on PS3, Sixaxis on PS3, and other projects, so if they need to take time to find a reason for gamers like me to actually want this, then they should take their time.

Delay's are okay, like Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, GT5, Zelda : Twilight Princess...so I'm okay with delays.

----------

EDIT : Yeah, Batman AA is another great one, there is so many delays that have happened for the good. Of course, delay's aren't surefire, like Too Human taught us.

Yeah, it's been posted already and nobody really cared.

It makes sense to wait until there are more games available for it. I'd be pretty pissed if I bought it and there was only a slow trickle of games released throughout the year.

I'm not surprised. Sony are the king of delays. I'm in no rush for it anyways. Not really a big deal at this point.

Compare 4 things- 1-The amount of news/ hype Natal has been getting and not just from game websites but major news sources like Time. 2-Natal has been getting lots of support from games running on unreal engine and 70%-80% games publishers working on Natal 3-Nintendo already has the major handheld motion controller very well known unlike the Wand 4-Microsoft has said they will treat this like a launch so Sony knows MS will poor in huge amounts to advertise Natal. Sony knows it has to have more then what has been shown so far and just a half *** Wiimote. They understand more works needs to be done. I suspect the Wand will not be out till the earliest end of next year. Another thing it does not even have a real name yet and people think a fall release will happen??

Also another thing at a very large event that just happened the (CES) Consumer Electronics Show Sony almost said nothing about their wand. I mean one of the MAIN shows to talk about new advanced tech coming out this year. Natal released info but not Sony. What has been shown pretty much for the last year but the same old Eyepet that has been shown for YEARS now and it is nothing impressive tech wise. Sony only wanted to talk about 3-D which is something sega did and released a console on in the early 90s

They focused on 3D technology for TVs, not consoles, and it wasn't only Sony focusing on this. Want or whatever it's called will get it's fair share in the sunlight.

Come on seriously? You are a regular enough to I am sure seen all the stuff Sony was saying about PS3 and 3-D also. Fine though here is some

Sony PS3 demo

Sony 3D games and movies coming to PS3 in 2010

I could post more but we get it but both are from CES

Like I said at the Consumer Electronics Show all Sony wanted to talk about was something Sega did in the early 90s. The wand is nowhere ready for this year if they do not even mention the want almost at all.

This is one peripheral that should be delyaed if it isn't working the way that thwy want it to. Delay it as much as you need Sony, so that the masses won't be disappointed.

Probably, but I didn't see it on the front page. Until you bumped it, that is.

That, and it gives people a chance to develop some good content. That's nothing to be sad about, really.

they also need to add a joystick to it so you dont have to hold a ps3 controller while using it.:P

ahha it would be amazing if they added a gun attatchement to it, so you can hold it as a gun if they were doing FPS (but still includ ethe joystick on it).

Wow people still really say that Eyetoy stuff? I thought everyone knew how silly that was by now. I guess it is like music and some people just love to stick to the classics.

What would be the logic behind that move? I'm just curious. In an ideal world, it would have a release date similar to that of Natal. That way we could all geek out about a head to head competition between the two companies. Of course, we all thought we'd get that with GT5 vs F3... We can only hope this isn't a similar situation. :P

you make it sound like sony needs some type of motion controller to withstand that launch of NATAL. All sony really need is to release a high # of quality AAA games and it can give NATAL a go because i really don't see NATAL going anywhere near where the wii took motion control (and i mean by demand and popularity)

I am only saying I just do not see Sony's thing( again it does not have a name) near ready to go against Natal. Also as far as AAA calibur games you act like 360 does not also have them. Reach, Fable, Alan Wake and so on.

that word "embarrassment" is such a subjective word, because from what i recall, the people at E3 really took to the sony wand as well as they did with NATAL. The difference was that the sony's wand was actually in your face deal, where as NATAL was a in your face deal, but alot of it was a video fake

This is from last E3 for Sony

He could not even connect at all and this was supposed to be a demonstration of what the Wand could do. I laughed pretty hard seeing this new Sony thing as he missed and missed and missed and etc

Well, what I got out of it was that one company was prepared, and presented a demo on their product, as well as a benchmark for what they were shooting for by the time of release. The other company... well... IB said it well: [QUOTE="IronBass"] At least the Natal presentation didn't look like it was planned the day before. :P

why? because sony had the actual tech people behind it demonstrating it and not some PR guy like kudo tsunoda? what was embarrassing was that "ever want to see the bottom of an avatars shoe" mishap - i dont think a tech guy would have made a mistake like that

Did you see the video your fellow GS user was kind enough to link on the last page? That's not so much a demo as it is a mistake. A video would have been better than that.

[QUOTE="CanYouDiglt"]Compare 4 things- 1-The amount of news/ hype Natal has been getting and not just from game websites but major news sources like Time. Another thing it does not even have a real name yet and people think a fall release will happen??CanYouDiglt

you make it sound like sony needs some type of motion controller to withstand that launch of NATAL.

1st off, why does sony need to go against NATAL???!?!!! I'm willing to bet that NATAL isn't going to be as much of a blockbuster hit like you may be expecting. The 360 is way too hardcore for NATAL. 2ndly, I like your "AAA" list count. From what i can see, only Halo: Reach looks to be a AAA title. Fable 3: Since when have a Fable game received AAA scores, yet lems still will consider Fable a AAA series. Alan Wake; Does this game have a release date yet?

I really could care less, but E3 still stands to change my mind on motion controllers. I expect E3 will be a hard push for this tech from MS and Sony because they want to build the hype. Guess we've gotta wait a few more months before we see what they are really capable of and if they are worth it.

why? because sony had the actual tech people behind it demonstrating it and not some PR guy like kudo tsunoda?i_am_interested
No. Because the presentation felt way too rushed and didn't really show anything besides a WiiMote copycat with a glowing ball and a half-cooked version of WiiSports.

[QUOTE="musicalmac"][QUOTE="i_am_interested"]why? because sony had the actual tech people behind it demonstrating it and not some PR guy like kudo tsunoda? what was embarrassing was that "ever want to see the bottom of an avatars shoe" mishap - i dont think a tech guy would have made a mistake like that

Did you see the video your fellow GS user was kind enough to link on the last page? That's not so much a demo as it is a mistake. A video would have been better than that.

what video? the tennis ball video? if so thats because he's trying to figure out where a 2d ball is in a tv in real life 3d space, its all guesstimates to accurately hit something like that you would need stereoscopic 3d

We could go back and forth on games but that is not the point. If you honestly do not see how Sony's (wiimote) does not compete against Natal then I really do not know what to say.

Now you're just making excuses for it. Ironic ones, too.
