Clicky

For the lazy, he's in negotiations to get the franchise according to IESB.

If you follow the IESB link there's a short little story dealing with Spielberg and BioShock.

If this is old, life goes on. :)

Sweet news. If Speilberg really wants to do it then he will cause well who in the movie industry would say no to him. Also I could not in anyway se how MS would say no to Speilberg since it would be great for the movie. As far as movies making money Speilberg has to be the most successful director ever. Speilberg+new movie+Halo=Win

It was posted earlier today but it's still good news. I just finished watching Schindler's List again. Spielberg is a genius so it's good to see he would be producing it.

Halo definitely needs to expand into the film industry, Bungie has done something special with the universe, creating it so deep that there are infinite possibilities for storytelling.

A vivid interpretation of The Fall Of Reach won't be an easy task, the amount of sheer awsomeness that wasin that novel was breathtaking, but I think Spielberg can pull it off

I have not liked his last few directorial outings. To be honest, I don't know who I would want on to Direct, thinking about it.

It will never work. You either have a film with a faceless guy named Master Chief and weaken the emotional impact or you don't have Master Chief at all (which was actually considered for a long time!!)

A Halo movie directed by Spielberg would be awesome, and would be the exact person Microsoft would need to bring it to the big screen. Without him, the public would view it as another movie based on a game. And it helps that he makes awesome movies!! :D Im hoping he jumps aboard the Uncharted movie as well, awesome game that should be done right :)

On the contrary, I think a movie for Reach can provide a whole other perspective on John's background, where he comes from, and how he became the chief, all of which are clearly elaborated in the novels. A character-driven Halo film would be the best approach in my opinion.

Ah okay. Well you young fellas know a lot more about the Halo fiction than I do. I thought you were talking more about a film based directly on the three games.

You can have a faceless guy and still do just fine. Look at Transformers 2. There is no emotion in that thing at all, and it raked in money. That is the beauty of summer action movies. They don't need much depth.

They dont need much depth to make money, yes. But if you want to make something substantial, that is absorbing in its narrative, it won't work. Its not just about making a quick buck - or at least it shouldn't be.

Anyone expecting a deep and engrossing movie based on a game needs to wait about 20 years or more. Movies based on games won't get respect anytime soon in Hollywood.

I rather have something based on some IP which I enjoy. Not that I don't like both. Just I would rather have more stories on stuff I enjoy more Star Trek, comic books and through in some video game movies. I will be happy.

Well from the source I read from, the movie will be based off this, if it gets approved and licensed.

It would be moronic to have a movie following the games, the universe is too deep to have a repeated story.

Even though he's well renowned in the industry, even slapping his name on megahit crap like Transformers, NO THANKS.

Likely he'll PG13 it, slap his name on as producer, and rake in millions. No justice at all.

You could be right, but it could happen too. I'm 90% sure Tintin 1 is already done shooting (it's a lot of green screen,) Lincoln and Old Boy have been in development hell for years (and I want to see Lincoln...but every year for the past five years we hear "next year it's happening..." I'm waiting.) And I doubt Indy 5 will happen. Indy 3 was very well received, and it still took 20 years for an Indy 4 that nobody liked. It'd perform just like Transformers 3 will: still very good, but after the universal criticism of the previous film the BO will take a dive. And Ford is almost 70.

Spielberg is not what he used to be.IronBass

whatever.

I'm starting to think there will be Spielberg hate or something or hate on anything that is associated to Halo.

That's how far Halo Haters will go.

Lets be real here.

Halo is a money maker simple fact, it's popular, and has millions of fans. You could have any director take the helm and he/she will be criticized for their integrity will suddenly be questioned.

Spiel-berg can be involved in it because of the money, but then how many game movies are made on another basis?

Spielberg is a good director

Halo is a good franchise

Microsoft will invest a lot of money into this

millions of Halo fans will definitely watch this opening week. That's the least

is there any other crap Halo haters can come up with?

A Halo movie would fail miserably no matter who produced it, the only incentive to actually make a movie based on the game would be to con all those teen boys into paying to see it.

How would it fail? Video game movies don't have to suck. You have to start with a good one somewhere. Hopefully Gears will be the first.

I am honestly annoyed that they are even considering a movie for this universe.. Halo universe is quite bland and generic, and the only reason why its even being looked at is its popularity of the games.

Batman and Joker was completely redone in a way that has never been done before in movies.. It had great acting and the like.. Halo namely the main character Masterchief, is the stereotypical super soldier who says little and seems to overcome tremendous odds by simply walking into the fray and coming out the otherside unscratched.. Makes matters worse is the fact he is wearing green motocross gear that you would see in the Xgames.. Its a great game don't get me wrong, but I thought the story in every Halo game was quite dumb.

... There are books for every video game.. The point being is they are not gonna base the movie off the books.. The series is popular because of the games NOT the books.

you do know there are halo books... right?

... There are books for every video game.. The point being is they are not gonna base the movie off the books.. The series is popular because of the games NOT the books.

Halo reach is being based off a book, Halo Wars was based off the books, I see no reason as to why the same can't be done to the movie

Because the main cash cow is Master Chief, and the vast majority of the fan base is familiar with the games, not the books.. They are not gonna risk money basing it off a book with possibly using a unrelated character.. When the games have always been about Master Chief..

[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"] Batman and Joker was completely redone in a way that has never been done before in movies.. Its a great game don't get me wrong, but I thought the story in every Halo game was quite dumb.sSubZerOo

But if the universe and story is strong enough to support a good book (5, no less), why not a good movie?
