@finalfantasy94: I doubt this is the only shooter type game that broke the mold of not having to kill to win. Again from everything iv seen this game while it looks fun doesint give me the feeling its some revolutionary marvel. Just a fun well developed game.
When I say "kill" I mean it in playability terms. I'm sure there are games where the aim is to shoot at an object instead of shooting at people, but in order to have a chance at winning you still have to be accurate and fast.
Splatoon is "shoot anywhere" and make points (well, anywhere in the ground, vertical walls aren't taken into account when it comes to points made but they are really useful) while "shooting anywhere" makes paths for your team-mates, dwarves enemies' movement and let's you hide in your own ink. Of course you can't realise how strategic and deep this game is until you play it, but it surely does something really different than anything I've ever played in that genre and it does it really, really well. In terms of gameplay possibilities this is HUGE, and best of all, it's really easy to get into it and to grasp. It's like they give you some really easy to understand and versatile tools and from there onwards it's up to you to think in ways of using what you have in order to win, something I've personally never seen in a shooter in such a degree until now.

Ink saver is crucial for turf wars. You can't be covering ground if you are recharging. Faster recharging is a good bonus too. Less time recharging means more ground you could be covering.

Inksaver and fast recharge are the only buffs I look for in shops. The Fast charging Special can also be handy depending on your weapon class.
Faster movement/super jump/mobility buffs, don't really see much benefit in turf wars.
Defense and Offense buffs, again in Turf Wars not much benefit because combat shouldn't be your primary focus.
One of us (Me) deals with facts and the other gives nonsense, and you're going to give me a "I know you are, but what am I?"
Child please.
EIGHT.
And when you find me denying or questioning the games quality, you'll have an actual point, but since I never did that outside of questioning the single player you got nothing.
23 pages and you made excuses for every thing that is so blatantly a negative or something Nintendo, should, not just could, have done better.
A rational human being can accept a scenario like the game looks hella fun, but voice chat should be there for people who like it, the game shouldn't have less content than the average shooter, it is ridiculous that you can't squad up with your friends until august, or play custom games until august, or the part where the game in general is partially finished and we're waiting on them to update all the other maps/modes into the game, until august. I'm not even going to touch the amiibo, because I am sure you'll have an apology for that too.
You choose to make an apology for everything they did objectively worse than a shit load of developers.
Added bonus the only facts gained from that 8
-Gamespot gave it an 8
-Peter Brown liked the game enough he felt it was quality, so much quality he gave it an 8.
Both of those still add up to an opinion. Where as everything I posted is yet again, a fact. Learn to actually debate your points or actually learn to accept a reality.
That's the difference, you think I can only call you an idiot, but I can actually debate and have argued my points beautifully. We have 23 pages of evidence that you can't do that without resorting to completely illogical responses, ergo, idiot. No gamespot score will change that mate.
How long has this argument been going so far? :p
This. It's high time everyone started ignoring the idiot that is Bread.
I'm not the one who resorts to name calling and down talking. I'm here to celebrate all that is video games. The game exceeded it's score and people are still trying to damage control and troll and hate.
This argument ended when the game exceeded it's hype score and the haters were proven wrong. But they are still crying and moaning about voice chat, a feature that didn't effect the games score.
I'm sure it will go on and on and on and on.
And the difference between the trolls and I? I know how stupid all this is and I don't give it any more attention or time than it deserves. I reserve my brain for more important matters. Like curing cancer in my laboratory every day as a scientist or something, yeah, that's what I do.

jg4xchamp will get none of my attention in this thread anymore. If you don't respect me enough not to insult me you're not worth my time or attention. He can type till his fingers bleed I'm not reading another splatoon related thing he writes. He may not like what I have to say but there was no need for insults or name calling. Sorry, I don't deal with people who stoop to that level.
And once again, my point is, the lack of voice chat didn't effect the 81 metacritic score or the 8 gamespot score. So it only matters to the haters who have no intention of buying the game.

The fact that its pointed as a negative it does matter. Same goes with the content. I wouldint be surprised that the lack of stuff way of splatoon held it back from a 9.
*familyguygif*
Which translates into "I can't debate using facts or rational logic so I'll duck this and cry about someone calling a spade a spade". I won't get any of your attention but I got a gif and my name dropped in your next post with a link and everything? lol okay buddy.
Just remember you were the one that wanted to have another round of our song n dance

Apparently there just aren't numbers after 8.

Nope. Only number that matters is 7. Which was what people hyped the game at. Anything beyond 7 is a win. You know the rules.

Or maybe they give more importance to the fact that this game has such a solid concept behind that it deserves good reviews despite lacking those features.
Because, if Splatoon has to get less score because of the lack of voice chat, then The Last of Us should get a lower score because it has a much, much more limited gameplay design than Splatoon.
The problem of starting a review giving every game a 10 and then proceed to rest points for every "missing feature" one expects from it is that innovation or even going the extra mile in terms of gameplay design (like it's done in this game) is not recompensed with better scores. And thus we end with a much, much more limited game having greater scores because "it lacked nothing" while also doing nothing new.
@aroxx_ab So best game WiiU owners have this year so far is a arena shooter with...was it 7 maps only? lol
I would say that we've got the most innovative shooter of the generation, the game that has the best gameplay mechanics released this generation of consoles (in the genre, and only rivalled -although I see more merit in Splatoon- by Toki Tori 2+) and one of those few gems that manage to redefine a genre.
And yes, that game for the moment has 6 maps, but will end having much more (14 by August if I'm not mistaken) and as an ""extra"", this ""arena shooter"" comes with the best single player campaign I remember having played in a shooter since Half Life 2 (this one is shorter and doesn't seek to immerse you in the story but I find it much better designed in terms of level design and the extent to which they force you to learn the in-game mechanics).
Don't worry for us WiiU owners, in fact, what should worry you is that that you will never touch this game only because it hasn't been released on your favourite console. What I find more worrisome is that the best TPS offering on the PS4 is a remake of a PS3 game that's plainly inferior in every aspect of it's design except for the "realistic graphics" and the "storytelling" (which is nothing that hasn't been done dozens of times, with clichés everywhere). Heck, do you want to know what saddens me de most right now? Thinking that someone can believe (only because of ignorance) that a game that had an unarmed scientist as its final boss only because of plot reasons can be even comparable to the game that has the best final boss fight ever in a TPS.
@bunchanumbers: and if either of us were talking hype and meta game you would have a point, but since neither me or ff were that argument holds no merit. To pretend that the lack of content had zero impact on how the game has been judged is a failure of reading comprehension at best or straight up ignorance.
You want to argue the game is so good it was still reviewer favorably with those short comings? Be my guest. Beyond that you don't exactly have much of a counter.

Don't need much of a counter. The game exceeded hype and therefore its a win. Ask Heil he'll say the same thing when it comes to a flop.
It's funny how you went from one extreme to another: being an extreme Nintendo hater to an extreme Nintendo apologist.
yea...i dont buy his whole act....
back when the wii was dominating this guy did nothing but shit nintendo.
and now he is a nintendo fan? lol no..
i bet if wiiU was #1 this gen he'd be rooting for playstation again.
Ok for argument's sake. Raise that hand of yours if you have played the game to have a honest opinion about it.

I have the game as well. While I do wish it had more content, I'm fairly pleased with this addictive TPS.

It wasint just that. Its was lack of content and lack of what you can do in multiplayer. Like set up teams. Noone is arguing if it flopped or not. Its just odd that people want to mask the negatives of the game and act like its perfect.
Yes, I know that it isn't just "the voice chat", but what I'm saying is still valid. In the end you have a much, much more solid game that's also much better designed, and it scores lower because "it has less maps".
This is as if when the next Virtua Fighter releases someone gives it a 6 because "it only has 30 fighters while in games like Dragon Ball Z you have more than 100" without taking into account that most of those 100 fighters in DBZ are reskined clones and that each movement of each fighter in VF has its own animations, with much more techniques per fighter than maybe the whole DBZ roster together and that the roster is actually balanced.
Splatoon has reinvented a genre thanks to some really clever ideas that nobody has ever had, and an excellent implementation of them. This is something that has to have much more weight than "less maps" in my opinion.

What's even more odd is the people who've not played it and still find fault with the people who have, but don't think voice chat is necessary.
Yeah, but I owned a Wii, PS3, and 360 last gen. The Wii had major problems but it did end up with some fantastic games. The Wii U fixed everything I thought was wrong with the Wii. So yeah, Nintendo is where I want them this gen so I'm a big supporter of the Wii U.
The PS3 was as unfairly maligned last gen as the Wii U is this gen. I was a big supporter of the PS3 when everyone called it a $600 grill. And yet I had my 360 to play the best version of every multiplatform game.
You see? I'm a GAMER. I don't align with one side or another. I love all systems but I will be hard on them when they screw up. The Wii U is awesome. The Wii was a flawed system that deserved the hate I gave it. Even though I owned one and played the best it had to offer. You see? I'm a gamer not a "blind slave" fanboy.
Looks like Splatoon and Wii U sales are strong for the second week in Japan.

So..the very thing that proves I'm not a Nintendo fanboy makes me a curse-head? OKAY. System Wars...you so crazy.
@PikminWorld: Eh, I really hate this trickling of content. I'd almost prefer if they just did it in relatively larger portions. Like maybe 2 maps and 2 weapons per update or something like that.
@Bread_or_Decide: The only thing that proves is you can only be a moronic hater, or a stupid fanboy apologist.

Heh, I haven't been able to play the new map due to that backwards rotation system they got going on.

Again with the insults.
I really don't understand why you guys get so angry you have to resort to talking to others like that. Video games are serious business apparently. I'm sitting here laughing at how a simple game can get you guys all out of sorts. Like you're fighting for some great cause or revolution. It's only video games. Maybe you should take yoga or meditate. It's helped me quite a bit.
Not sure what's going but I'm posting it anyway. :P There's a event this weekend I guess?
Also the new stage looks cool.
@Bread_or_Decide: I wasn't insulting you, I was describing you. Good riddance, now you won't plague my inbox with stupid messages like this that I'm going to ignore.

I mean if VF only had like 4 fighters it would get negative impressions for it since its not much to mess with. Also if VF lacked the option to make a room or invite friends to a fight or any other common online option for fighters it would get slack for it as well since those features are kinda important. Game could be fun,but you cant simply ignore and cover up what it clearly lacks out the door.
