Gameplay: SC is better as a stealth game, but I find MGS alot more fun. Story: MGS, no contest. Graphics: This one is hard, MGS seems to have better graphics for me.

have you even played mgs4....? Yes, and it remains clunky. Even Double Agent, the low point in the series, plays better than it and utilizes stealth more successfully. NONE of the Metal Gear games even touch the slickness of Chaos Theory's mechanics.
Im not a big fan of Metal Gear. I loved the first one on PSX and the MGS2 demo that came with my copy of Zone of the Enders. Unfortunatly the final version desapointed me :? MGS3 was ok and i only played MGS4 at my friends house.
On the other hand, i loved all Splinter Cell games on Xbox last gen. Still, Double Agent was a big let down imo. Im expecting a lot from Conviction. The E3 demo was incredible :o

Not a Metal Gear fan after 4. Wasn't a Splinter Cell fan after DA. But Conviction looks better than any previous game in both franchises to me, well except for maybe Chaos Theory.
Gameplay - SC. Never like MGS gameplay. Story - Irrelevant. I never paid attention to either story. Graphics - Depends. The first 3 SC's look better than the first three MGS games. But on the flip side MGS IV looks better than SC.

Another thread where SC fans will talk on about how SC has more realistic stealth gameplay and yada yada yada. MGS isn't considered a classic because of it's "stealth gameplay" it's the sum of it's parts, superb soundtrack, bleeding edge graphics, amazing boss fights, great character devolpment, amazing story that's extremely well connected throught every game in the series. MGS has soul, and is a game series that pushes the medium forward. It isn't just a "stealth game".
I like both games but I would say Metal Gear Solid the story is better in Metal Gear Solid then Splinter Cell IMO. The gameplays are both good in their own ways. The graphics for both games are also good.

yeah when i want a stealth game....REALLY want a stealth game. nothing touches Splinter Cell. sam fisher pwns but i do enjoy metal gears story MUCH better. how can you top a story thats lasted over 20 years, that actually works? Sam Fisher would kick snakes ass though...id hate to say.

are you joking? mgs has one of the best stories in video game history I for one do not equate needless complexity with deep thematic storytelling. MGS4 could have been distilled down to "NUKES ARE BAD" I personally thought the story was overblown, pretentious, and contradictory.

Yeh, using cutscenes to deliver an incoherent, redundant and poorly written narrative is really pushing the medium forward.

Agreed except on gameplay. While I love MGS' gameplay, something about Splinter Cell makes it more fun for me.

Sure, one of the best, but it doesn't have much competition. As I've said time and time again, the MGS series' narrative isn't so much GOOD as it is WELL TOLD. All the concepts and themes (cloned soldiers, privatized military, alternate history, end of the world doom) the franchise deals with has been done over countless times in novels (think ranging in the thousands). Now, a game like Bioshock, I personally see dealing with a much deeper narrative about free will and the inevitable human faults. There is a lot less you can find at your local bookstore dealing with those themes (Ayn Rand being the one huge inspiration for the game...and me).

Splinter Cell has great gameplay and isn't bogged down by lengthy drawn out cutscenes that tell an incoherent mishmash of a story.ther two diffrent games man. diffrent gameplay diffrent style. just because they both have stealth dosnt mean ther the same game. the splinter cell iv played, if u get cought its GAME OVER. its 100% stealth. its boring

MGS4 is a shooter/stealth hybrid, and it doesn't do the shooting particularly well.
