Is anyone else disappointed that we are seeing more SMG style level design? I was really hoping for a return to the open levels of 64.meetroid8
I can understand why they didn't go that route.. I think for a handheld game this is the best direction to go. Though if the Wii U version doesn't have more open levels then....... RAGE
If a handheld game (and a 3DS one at that) scores AAAA, all hell will break loose.Repeat AAAA for Mario on this one.

Can't deny it will make SW a much more entertaining place to be. :P
I would be surprised if this got a 9.5 from gamespot, no less a 10. Only 6 handheld games have gotten a 9.5 or higher since the gameboy! o_0

Especially if Uncharted 3, Skyrim, and MW3 get 8.5-ed, and Skyward Sword comes out with a 10 the next week.

Gamespot would crash and burn if that came to pass. Both Mario and Zelda get 10s, it'll be deteled from the internet entirely :o
Gamespot needs to make it happen.

Nintendo knows they have not only game sales riding on this, but system sales at a time when many developers are still wondering if it is viable. You can talk about handheld games of yesteryear, but how many have really had this level of polish and work put into them?[QUOTE="DSmon"][QUOTE="mmmwksil"]

There are numerous handheld games that should have gotten a 9.5. TWEWY is one off the top of my head that I can think of.

I just finished TWEWY like 3 hours ago. I would defiantly consider giving that a 9.5, such a great game.I wont say wont be good or wont score high... All ill say is.... ANOTHER mario game. QQAzatiS
Yeah. Stupid Nintendo, making games people want!
Anyway, it'll get between an 8 or a 9. I'm just worried that it might not have a lot of depth, or it might be too easy. It looks like a mix between Mario 3 and Mario 64.
It seems that Japan really wants SM3DL according to Famitsu. Here is the full list.

2. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3)
3. Mario Kart 7 (3DS)
4. Monster Hunter 3G (3DS)
5. Dragon Quest X (Wii)
6. Dragon's Dogma (PS3)
7. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)
8. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
9. Persona 4: The Golden (Vita)
10. Fotokano: Picture Girlfriend (PSP)
11. New Love Plus (3DS)
12. Animal Crossing (3DS)
13. The Last Guardian (PS3)
14. Gundam Extreme Versus (PS3)
15. Metal Gear Solid Rising (PS3)
16. 7th Dragon 2020 (PSP)

19. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS)
20. Uncharted 3 (PS3)
21. One Piece: Unlimited Cruise (PS3)

Bunch of new footage up today
Pretty much confirmed this game will be 9.0-9.5 and best handheld game of the year.
We have a new trailer for Boomerang mario+ Boomerang Flower as well as an impression from Nintendo World Report which gives some insight on some SM3DL info.
-A summary of the impression- (Thank pikachupwnage for this:))
- rainbow colored note blocks take you to bonus levels in the sky
- worlds have 4 to 5 levels each
- they usually have a castle or ship, and sometimes a Toad House or a Secret Box
- find power-ups in Toad Houses
- Secret Boxes are challenges that have you collecting as many items as possible
- these last for 10 seconds
- pick up coins, power-ups and even Star Medals
- each world also has an additional level to explore if you have enough Star Medals
- three medals in every level
- later in the game these Medals become crucial
- Boomerang Bros. suit lets you toss one boomerang at a time
- take out enemies and pick up items with the boomerang, Star Medals included
- Invincible Tanooki Suit will appear in levels when you fail too many times
- tease of something 'truly cIassic' that you get when your quest is wrapped up
- Bosses are underwhelming
So it seems that there are only going to be around 40 levels in the game (NSMBWii had 54 numbered levels)
Nintendo e-shop has been updated with a new 3D trailer that you guys with a 3DS can check out, us no 3DS folk will have to settle with a 2D version.(Thanks to Shinobishyguy for pointing this out)
This video shows off some new levels, Boomerang Mario, and a hint of what we may see from the StreetPass feature.
It seems that even Mario is celebrating Zelda's 25th year. In SM3DL there is a level with a homage to the cIassic Zelda games with a top-down perspective. Impressions of this level can be found here.
I also added all know levels to the OP as well as the Japanese name for the enemies who U.S. names aren't know yet.
Oh, I forgot. Expect a review from EDGE for SM3DL around the 24th.
I kinda knew they were gonna be pitting it against SMG2, which kinda misses the point really seeing as it's supposed to be more like the 2d games.EDGE has given their review score for SM3DL, an 8.
As of right now we just have the score from them.

How do you know they pitted it against SMG2? Maybe it's just not as great, from what I've seen it looks way too easy, slow, and generally not that fun. 8 was a higher score than I was expecting personally.

it only looks slow when you're walking and not holding the run button. That being said Iwasn't really expecting it to be better than the galaxy games, just a fun little handheld mario title *which it seems to be judging by what they wrote about it*

Edit: off topic, are the written reviews for the games out now? I want to read the Skyward Sword review.

Well I haven't seen em in a while but in any case his running speed is near the bottom of the barrel of concerns I have for it.
My Hype is AA (8.5). Second best 3DS game that isnt a remake if Nintendo learnt from their mistakes from Mario Kart Wii.
Nothing looks wrong about it so far, but I doubt it will be as well designed as the galaxies.
[QUOTE="93BlackHawk93"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] I personally agree, but it was a system defining game that many hold to be the best in the series. The best is DD! :x YES! FINALLY SOMEONE WHO AGREES! Double Dash, along with DS, is simply far and away the best game in the series. It's a pity they did not explore the concepts introduced in DD further.charizard1605
I agree with this statement. I guess that makes it 3 of us.
I really liked the level design in Double Dash. And the double mechanic has a lot of potential.
Why is this game flying under the radar? You'd think people would be more excited about a proper 3DS mario title, especially considering it is by the same devs that did the Galaxy series.
And the flop begins......8 from EDGE.Probably it will get a 7 here.AtariKidXI'm going to throw out a random guess and say it will get an 8 aswell.

I agree, I'm mainly worried about the length and difficulty. Although the latest stages I've seen look pretty neat.[QUOTE="Jolt_counter119"][QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"] a blunt majority of the videos I've seen have mario walking. When running he's looks about as fast as he was in galaxy.Shinobishyguy

It's from the Galaxy team so perhaps we shouldn't be worrying. Length isn't as much of a concern for me--I'd much rather have a well designed, highly replayable high score type game.

That's what worries me the most. Anything below galaxy level difficulty is just not worth playing in my opinion, I need challenge.

Trust me I'm with you! A lot of the footage shown looks like a 5 year old would have no problem with--but most nintendo games are like that anyways. I'll be let down if this game doesn't deliver, I really will.
objectivly: AAE
with nostalgia boost (probably review score): AAAE
My personal taste (don't like Mario that much): AE
Not sure wheter or not I should get it, I don't like Mario much but I would really like to play another 3DS game on the overpriced thing I bought at launch sadly
Well I was hyped for AAAE but after I read that Edge review (an 8 ) I got a little worried. They had control issues (which is a huge factor for HH games) and 3D could not boost the appeal. (which is the games big feature)
people are deluded if they think this game will be AAA. The game took about 1 year to make and has about 5x less content and scope than the galaxy games. New super mario bros wasn't hyped AAA so why are you mario fanboys hyping this AAA?The_Djoker
because sheeps need a high scoring 3DS title to justify their purchase and to tell everyone how great this thing is?

Seriously I'd like to read the review
