IGN reviewed the Peanuts movie and... they have to be cashing in on that infamous meme originated from that Pokemon review.
The Nintendo 64 holds such a dear place in my heart honestly. I will likely never love a system as much as that one.
The games on it really helped me get through a dark time in my childhood, and that's something that I appreciate more than anything
Banjo Tooie and Pokemon Snap specifically were favorites of mine.
Some cockbag stole my 64 outta the trunk of my car about 10 years ago. Still pissed.
Very interesting.
Some dude, probably a stewpid stoner, left his poor N64 sitting in a trunk about 10 years ago. How was that N64 supposed to breathe? Me, being the swell guy that I am, approached the car while wearing a full body condom (some would call it a cockbag) and saved that N64 as I'm not a fan of console negligence.
Coincidence?
While Resident Evil 4 is good on the wii, to me it doesn't seem as good as the pc version. I heard Jag proclaim it had some effects the pc hasn't, but it's blurry and pixeled in comparison, not running 60fps. The wii controls are good, (once I got use to them), but they don't seem anymore or less intuitive than the mouse and keyboard, which Capcom patched earlier on.
The lack of corpses bubbling up into nothing is welcome though.

Are you playing the ultimate PC edition or the old PC port?
The old PC port used the PS2 version as a base, so it loses a lot of details and effects in comparison to the gamecube. It got flak as a bad port back then.
The recent ultimate edition uses the gamecube version as a base, not sure if it's a perfect port though. The Wii version could definitely use some cleaning up, but I love the Wii mote controls and you can still use the GC controller too. It's probably the best disc based version we'll ever see.

7.8/10- Too much peanuts.
PS1 better
Nah
Yes.
The true JRPG renaissance.
PS2 > PS1
yeah. probably. Was just pooping on charizard really.

Ultimate PC edition; compared to the Ubisoft port it's gold.
It has a few HD textures and screenfilters (I played through the game using the grimy one) but yep, almost identical barring the 60fps and forced super res/AA.
I'll replay it on the wii purely because the controls feel so different.
So I got Mario Maker, the first new game I have obtained for what feels like 5 months. and will be the last game I probably buy this year, unless SC2 Legacy of The Void surpasses my expectations.
Cant say I regret the purchase. Though the unlocking system man...
Chrono Trigger is dope and all, but it's not exactly the timeless masterpiece it's hyped up to be. I really like its pacing and lack of fluff but at the same time a lot of the parts aren't vastly different from what was done right before. Ultimately it gets by on a cool cast of characters, the aforementioned pacing, and a lot of creativity that I miss in the industry nowadays.
I'm also mixed on the soundtrack. Some tracks are amazing, right up there with the praise it gets, while others have a jarring shift in the overworld from the good tracks and are even weaker as a result. The battle music though, it's grating on me constantly now.
I'd take Mario and Luigi: SuperStar Saga over this game any day, because that game is very inspired by Chrono Trigger and does many aspects of it better. It's just so cool seeing the similarities though.
@Maroxad: Unlock object pack, place one of everything, spam some blocks for a minute or so, receive truck "early", profit.
@getyeryayasout:
lol classic man.
@Blabadon:
Yeah man, it is a great game, and I still consider it to be one of the more solid jrpgs I've played, but there is a certain nostalgia factor for some of us that's impossible to contend with. If I were to play it for the first time today, I'm sure I would enjoy it, find it charming, and find plenty of aspects to appreciate, but nothing can beat that feeling of playing it for the first time as a young teen in 1995. It really felt like the dream game at the time. So many people were ridiculously hyped for it and it still managed to smash expectations. I'm usually good about checking my nostalgia, but with some games it's just too strong and CT is definitely one of them. Asking me to say something negative about that game would be like asking me to say something about Link to the Past or Super Mario World. Just not happening bro.
Curious, have you gotten around to playing FFVI yet?

Unlocking and then the sheer randomness of the play experience. Some nights I can try for hours and find nothing worthwhile. Other nights, I'm playing the most well crafted Mario levels ever. Stuff that takes the platforming finesse to the next level, or shows just how good of a puzzle game Mario can really be. Such a mixed bag, and yeah that's the nature of user generated content, but damn it there needs to be a better way to sort through the mess.
Eating ribs like a Walker from TWD. What has my life turned to? Lol
I should take a break from this show.
Chrono Trigger is incredible. And I played it for the first time fully with the DS release, it holds up.
Chrono Trigger is incredible. And I played the DS version first so no nostalgia from my part, it holds up.

Yep, it's just great, evergreen design. Absolutely Squaresoft's peak.

But Bayonetta 2. :(
At $250, plus the $30 coupon, and with two games, plus the chance to play Bayonetta and Smash and Kart and Mario and Splatoon and Xenoblade... yeah, go for it lol.
I just personally stopped recommending it to people after this last E3.
Yep, it's just transcendental, evergreen design. Absolutely JRPG's peak.
And the best part is, it accomplished all of that without needless grinding or a game length of 400 hours.

You could say anything about Chrono Trigger, and it would be a reasonable candidate for being the best part. It approaches game design perfection of the kind that few games do- like, Super Metroid, Link to the Past level.
@93BlackHawk93: I played the PS1 version on Vita. Amazing how it holds up even today. Very charming game and interesting characters too. Soundtrack was the highlight of my playtime which wasn't much unfortunately. I saved marle, met the frog and robo and advanced a little more to the factory and then went into a time chamber where I met an old man I think and after that I stopped because studying. I will be getting the DS version and I intend to play through the whole thing.

Definitely play through it all when you get the chance. The PS1 version (and whatever it is available on) is actually the worst one owing to load times and an older translation, but you really can't go wrong with Chrono Trigger in any of its forms. The game is flat out sublime (and yes, I personally recommend the DS version- no soundtrack loss, no loading times, most endings, best translation).
Chrono Trigger DS left with that extremely ambiguous secret ending. Was it a set-up for Chrono Cross (haven't played that one yet)?

Idk, never played Cross, the bad reception spooked me off, but from what I understand, Cross is only very tangentially related to Trigger anyway.
One thing that annoys me about Chrono Trigger is the high encounter rate. Fans straight up lie about being able to see every enemy in the field and then avoiding them. At best, maybe 60% of enemies in the field can actually be avoided, while others attack you anyways or a certain invisible line causes an enemy attack every damn time you walk over it.
I don't see how it's design perfection but I'm way too used to Char's hyperbole by now.

Char is not the only one saying that it's design perfection, so great job sidestepping the issue.
As for the encounter rate, I do agree that there's a decent amount of enemies that you encounter, particularly in the earlier stages of the game- but that's still better than just about every other JRPG, which is the ballpark that we are comparing Chrono Trigger with. Compared to just about any notable JRPG, Chrono Trigger's encounter rate comes off as far better, and it also drops off later on.
@charizard1605: yes, but it's extremely like you to over praise a game to make a point.
SuperStar Saga has a better encounter rate because every single enemy besides bosses can be avoided. Earthbound auto kills weaker enemies. Pokemon has Repel. Bravely Default allows you to switch it up.
I don't know why you speak in superlatives most of the time man. It's like you're mems or something.

Yes, but again, everyone else speaks in superlatives about Chrono Trigger. The larger point being that Chrono Trigger is one of those rare games that deserves its superlative praise.
And I have not yet played Superstar Saga, but if it is anything like Partners in Time or Bowser's Inside Story, I can absolutely see a lot encounter rate being true. As for Earthbound or Pokemon or Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, the difference, I guess, is that Chrono Trigger does have on field enemies, as opposed to these other games, which are fully random encounters. The closest analog I would say is Shin Megami Tensei or Persona, and both of those have way more annoying encounter rates than Chrono Trigger. I think that's why Trigger's encounter rate is praised, because against the benchmark of its own genre, either no one tries what it tries (on field enemies, which give the player fair warning/chance of/at upcoming battles) or those that do do it worse (simply higher encounter rates).
@93BlackHawk93: Objectively, there are only two JRPGs I have ever played that I feel approach Chrono Trigger in design.
I think any reasonable gamer can agree that Chrono Trigger is a great jrpg. It's not a perfect game, but of course, what game is? Oh man, that's so deep.
Seriously though. At the end of the day, no matter what we think about Chrono Trigger, I just wanted an excuse to post that gif. I truly believe that deep down, that's what matters the most. We could all stand to learn a thing or two about the misadventures of Robocop.

You still have a functioning Wii?
EDIT: Not that it matters, since you have a PS3/PSV as well.

You know my first one will be FFXIII.
Gotta start with shit first, eh? :P
Man, they ruined RoboCop with that new movie :(
I haven't watched it, or the new Total Recall. I like to keep those good old memories intact. After watching that latest Conan movie, I find that skipping these reboots is the best option for me.
And yeah, FFVI is top titty. CT and FFVI, I have a really tough time choosing between which is my favorite jrpg.

I swear I will flat out stop talking to you if you do that

Do watch the new Mad Max though. The new Mad Max is awesome. I was so surprised, I was totally expecting it to be like RoboCop and Total Recall.
And dude, yeah. I wonder if Square will ever reach those highs again :/
