FIND ALL THE SECRETS
Seriously, Shovel Knight has a buttload of flaws but the game is so lovingly created and has so many unique nooks and crannies it's just awesome overall.
Someone please ban texasgoldderp
As much as I disagree with that guy. I am honestly far more bothered with the people he debate with than him himself.
Say what you will. But he is not quick to poison the well, commit ad hominem or similar logical fallacies. He also often goes beyond petty arguments like "its fun" unlike the Fallout 4 apologist brigade.
He's pretty petty, my dude.
He's also stupidly biased.
...The fact of the matter is, he has actually something to justify his point of view and refrains from commiting logical fallacies (outside of perhaps an overreliance on anecdotes)...
...The thing is, when one side has some degree of intellectual honesty, and the other one shits on the term. Onlookers like me will be greatly swayed by the side actually backs his arguments up with SOMETHING....
1. Fallacies are his bread and butter.
2. That's just the thing. He doesn't show any degree of intellectual honesty. He rarely backs up his arguments. He makes sweeping generalizations about subjects he has little to no knowledge of. He straight up lies to make a "point". He's biased beyond belief and won't even entertain a point of view that differs from his own. When you bring facts to the table and show him that we was indeed wrong, or at least present him with a strong argument, he does one of a few things. He'll either ignore your post as if it doesn't exist, change the subject, shift some goal posts, or if the situation fits, he'll fall back on ad populum.
I don't think the guy needs to be banned, that's just childish. There are plenty of shit posters running rampant on this board, at least texas attempts to discuss games. I'd rather have dudes like him around than the typical sales/graphics/scores bunch.
You're giving him far more credit than he deserves though. I'm not oblivious to the fact that people just shit on him with drive by posts a lot of the time, but to an extent he's earned it. When you've been dealing with his nonsense for years, you come to understand that legitimate efforts to have a fruitful conversation with the guy are just a waste of time.
Even when I find myself in agreement with him, I still can't co-sign on the "arguments" he presents.
I know the best route would be to just ignore him and often times I do. But eh, it's SW, shit debates are what we signed up for.

I'll try. Finding the secrets is definitely fun. It's a cool game. Got my nostalgia by the short and curlies.

This. All of it. Dude refuses to even consider the possibility that he might be wrong. He lies and moves goal posts like nobody's business.
Texasgoldrush shouldnt be banned at all. RPG threads on this forum usually end up being terrible one way or another even when he doesnt post in them.
But honestly, his arguments are far superior to the likes that try to attack him.
Yeah until you come to another realization that he hasn't actually played a video game, and will routinely come up with every excuse in the book for a gameplay short coming, just because the game tells a story, a story that wouldn't be good enough to be considered a quality direct to dvd film, much less actually worth praising as something meaningful or with some reflective depth to it. And he's king of argumentum ad populum, the critical reception, the consensus, the look at this voting process. Meaningless praise that isn't even a product of his own argument, just shit he found to back his claim, which inherently subjective to begin with.
He'd be lucky get a D in debate 101 with that shit.
He's pretty petty, my dude.

There is a reason I said I am not a fan of him ;)
But at the same time... if there is one thing worse than posts like his, it would be the posts of the people that attack him. My point is, as an onlooker in the ongoing Mems-TGR debates, TGR is generally more convincing. I agree though, he is stupidly biased, and that is his main issue.
The one thing, that I am more likely to counter than opposing views is views I agree with, but are formulated on very stupid opinions. Pretty common behaviour actually. Did you see when even Fox News of all places called Donald Trump out on his bullshit?

While I am sure he does play games, I would definately argue that he is playing them for the wrong reasons. Like you said, storytelling has never been gaming's strong point. Even a storytelling "masterpiece" like Planescape: Torment would only be a mediocre book at best.
I will acknowledge he uses Argumentum ad Populums and Appeals to Authority (critical reception). He is far from innocent from using bad arguments. Its just that compared to several others... he is pretty benign. Furthermore, I recall him actually describing and justifying the qualities in the game.
Its why in the OT forums, I am far more critical of some ideologies than others despite disliking them as well.
I agree, his arguments would get either a D or F, depending on my mood that day. But a potential D, is still higher than a certified F. On the spectrum of bad arguments, one still lies above some of the others.

On point 2. Well that is distrubing. But I guess it is just the terrible quality of some people's arguments that are so bad they even make him look good. And yes, you are right, I think that is the problem. The typical sales, graphics, scores bunch are on such a low they make even him look good.
Got any links to threads where he straigt up lies to make a point, presents willful ignorance or commits goalpost shifting? Do that and I will rally right behind you on the context of TGR. If there is one thing I have zero tolerance for, it is willful ignornace and refusal to admit to being wrong. It may be due to my desire to become a researcher where shit like that is enough to get you kicked out. I remember a while back there was a Randroid (aka Objectivist) on this forum, who despite being presented 5 studies made by experts proving him wrong, he still kept spouting his bullshit pretending his anecdotes carried more weight than the scholarly articles I linked. If that TGR has even a shred of resembelence to that guy...
Edit: But yes, if what you say is true. It would be best to ignore him. Since responding to him in that case would mean you are just wasting your "breath" or falling down to his level.
You people are taking this videogame forum thing too seriously.
People are grading posts on a videogame forum now? You must be a hit at parties.
Um. No. What makes you think I take anything on a gaming forum literally? Let alone, seriously?
You are the one that seems to be putting a whole lot of effort into this discussion. If you didnt get Blab's hint already, you look stupid making some this some big point of discussion. Even stupider that you went out of your way to post a bitch-ass facepalm picture.
Which is amusing as I find you to be the closest thing to texasgoldrush on this board.
So no man's Sky is in development hell right now apparently. I thought it looked to ambitious for consoles or even as a game.
Xenoblade X is another game I wanna play but I am still at the last part of the previous game and haven't had the time to go back and finish it lol. So I'll just grab XCX next year and play it in the summer.
For those who played it. Your answer is important. What is the soundtrack like? How does it compare to Xenoblade? Is it better? Loud? Repetitive and boring?
And the combat and side quests, how are those compared to Xenoblade?
Gonna stop there, not only for others sake, but for mine as well. I am preparing to study for my Ph.D in a few years. I would rather not waste time with some silly e-rivalry.

Compared to Xenoblade,
Combat: Greatly expanded upon the original. In addition to facing, the combat now factors in elevation. Combat allows you to decapacitate foes which allows for ahem... offensive defense. TP gives the game SOME resource management. 4 party members, is an improvement over 3. Soul Voices have been greatly expanded upon, and now factors in heavily into the skill system too. Synergy remains roughly the same, but characters do have a greater potential to specialize. There is a complete lack of viable healing skills in the game. Overall, I feel that in general, this game has greater syngery between party members than the vast majority of RPGs do, which of course includes Xenoblade.
Side Quests: Side quests are pretty low quality. Affinity Quests however, are of pretty good quality, some having some degree of branching paths, dialogue choices, and generally more interesting objectives, that fall much better under the central themes of the story. Thankfully, you can buy resources with reward tickets. Which allows you to bypass those awful drop quests. One huge detriment to the side questing is that you can not pass time anywhere, which means that for some questst where you have to fight certain mobs and say... it leaves night time, you will have to warp somewhere else, interact with the wait object and then teleport back.
Soundtrack: The NLA soundtrack is terrible. It seems like they were trying to make western music without understanding western music. Night time OST has some poor rap and day time has some nonsensical lyrics, "I can't see you, I can't hear you". The soundtrack outside is sufficiently atmospheric. But it doesnt beat Xenoblade Chronicles.
Sad news for SW, rektmuhfac finally got the banhammer
The moment I saw his avatar was strip, the minute I knew he was fire from Gamespot. To be honest, I didn't think his threads were that bad, besides his love for Halo 5 lol.
bummer, there are a lot of other people that deserve a ban before him

There should be a category in the SW Awards.
Rectum face got banned?
WHY D:
I think he had a week suspension because of his threads and just came back with more
@Maroxad: thanks man. Always appreciate your detailed responses. I'll keep my expectations low for the soundtrack.
picked up a MK Wii U bundle a few weeks ago. 100cc is whooping my ass. God I feel old. I remember playing the 150cc when the original came out and not even breaking a sweat.
Bar their recent one guest starring AVGN, fitting to know ScrewAttack's lists still suck no matter how many good games they put on there...
Although I question why they picked the PS version of Rayman 2 for that consoles list, but ignore the N64 and Dreamcast versions for those systems lists, granted their PlayStation list is only barely better than the lists they made for N64, GameCube and Wii. My god were they awful.
I feel Admiral Ackbar summed up in a few words almost every star wars franchise material since the return of the jedi. It's a trap! That is certainly the case with battlefront. Using the star wars theme music you could make a trailer for almost anything look good and that is why the trap has worked again and again.
