@charizard1605: That does help. Once my new card gets in I'll watch for the deal and download it.

@khoofia_pika: It's not like I wasn't enjoying it! I've just had my time taken up with work and a couple other games. :P

You obsessively play P3P for three days, you get 35 hours in. I "obsessively" play Shovel Knight for three days, I finally finish it. :P

@Zassimick: Oh wow lol, I guess you'll need to obsessively play it for about a month then :P

Winter breaks are certainly helping me out here.

Yeah, I'll get about 10 days there since I'm taking time off work to play stuff. Weekends are sometimes great, but we just got into a very busy time at work with a few big things happening. It's how it goes I suppose.

Next goal is to finish The Order: 1886 this weekend. Shouldn't be hard if I can just get to my PS4 tonight sometime Saturday or Sunday.

Anyway, it's hard to not love Persona 3- yes, it has its issues, it has a lot of its issues, but man is that game great. The story is absolutely amazing, the soundtrack is godly, the game has its great sense of style, and there's just this dark, melancholy feel to it. Could it have been done better? Yes, and the proof is that Persona 4 is better, but Persona 3 was an amazing game nonetheless, and it was a game with balls, the kind that Atlus lost when they were making Persona 4.

Hopefully P5 will be the best of both worlds- P3's narrative and atmospheric strength and P4's gameplay and characterization.

Well, P5 already seems to be a far darker game than P4 was, and it does seem to have gameplay improvements over P3 and P4. Hopefully it is that, yes. Persona is always this close to perfection. Maybe with P5, they can actually achieve it.

If P5 doesn't nail it, we can always wait for Persona 5: Crimson, amirite? :P

@charizard1605: Agreed. P3 was dark and that was great. It was my first entry in to the series and I'll always be fond of it. Biggest gripe for me was no direct control over party member's actions in the FES version and the repetitive soundtrack.

Seems as though P5 will see the series return to a more macabre atmosphere.

I actually never minded not having direct control- my party members almost always did the right thing. I do imagine the game is better (and easier) with direct control. Similarly, with the soundtrack, I love the music itself, though yeah, it got repetitive by the end.

I do hope P5 has as much balls as P3 did. P3's ending is positively traumatic. I don't expect Atlus will ever do that again, but just raise the stakes high enough to where I can never actually be sure that the characters I like are safe.

@charizard1605: True, most of the time they performed admirably, but in my case, Mitsuru would pull a Marin Karin too often instead of healing near the end of the game when every spell was crucial.

It was shocking to have the main character die off like that, and very unexpected for sure.

Mitsuru stopped casting Marin Karin after I gave Ken a Sexy Lance (which would charm the enemies, so Mitsuru would focus on other shit instead).

The ending is unexpected, yes, though I think The Answer sort of dampens the impact.

@charizard1605: How in the world do you play Persona Q? I don't understand the combat at all, I find the weakness of the enemies and all and they still kick my fanny. It's awful, I just want Rise to be happy and all of them and I can barely get through the first dungeon.

And no, I'm not absolutely terrible at turn-based combat.

I don't want to buy P5 two times.

Hope they just release the whole thing like P4G.

Also I just beat the first boss ( the giant) in DSII without taking damage. Very proud of this little achievement here lol.

And no, I'm not absolutely terrible at turn-based combat.

Combat is a little more complex in Persona Q than in traditional Persona:

  • You want to find and hit enemy weaknesses (pressing L analyzes enemies and potentially reveals their weak points)
  • Hitting the enemy's weakness puts your character that hit the enemy in a 'Boosted' state. A Boosted state means your character will attack first the next turn, and have a higher Hit and Evasion rate. Getting hit by the enemy before you get the chance to attack takes away the Boosted state. None of your attacks cost anything, HP or SP, when you are in a Boosted state
  • When at least 3 out of your 5 characters are in the Boosted state, you get to launch an All Out Attack. An All Out Attack is all your characters dogpiling onto all the enemies, and deals massive damage
  • Each character can equip two Personas- a main Persona, which determines your stats and elemental weakness and strength, and a Sub Persona, which gives you additional attacks and abilities to use
  • Party formation really matters- healers and support characters should always be in the back row. Characters in the back row cannot hit enemy characters in the back row of their formation, unless they have ranged attacks
  • There are additional abilities you get by calling on either Rise or Fuuka. Rise's ability is to allow any character you want to go first on the next turn, which is in my opinion the more useful ability of the two, since it lets you potentially wipe the enemy out with a character who has the right move

Basically, here are my tips- keep track of what Personas and sub Personas you are equipping. Make sure to use Rise's ability properly. Try and hit as many weak points as possible to enter Boosted states. Keep track of your party formation.Experiment with party members- if your current party is not working out for you, swap members in and out. You have 17 characters to choose from, so you have a lot of room to mix and match.

P3 was less social and had less to do during your time outside Tartarus, which isn't too great overall, but admittedly I never really liked that social link stuff so it didn't bug me at all. I found it to be a waste since I just went online to pick the "best choice" just so I could get a level up. I want the reward, don't give a crap about your story kind of thing going on here. It didn't help that the games have a timer so it practically devolved into clicking the right choice when the prompt comes up and not really listening at all to what the characters are really saying (as if any of them had anything interesting to say tbh). It's not like you couldn't read and understand, its just that you are looking at the end goal more than the journey when you care only about the reward at the end which will be needed in days time. If the time was infinite then I might pick other choices but alas that is not the case.

I guess I play RPGs for combat and getting stronger, not to listen to a guys life story. This is precisely why I don't pick other choices that give lower points as it is detrimental to me getting stronger. I may sacrifice this notion every once in a while since I don't always understand every system thrown at me immediately or I missed a kick ass item or whatever, but for something as simple and easy to check as social links, which are undoubtedly the meat and potatoes of the outside experience, I can't let stuff pass.

Overall P4 was the better game, but P3 was more my type of game with its execution. It felt more like a core RPG I guess.

A friend is coming to town today and bringing his copies of Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider with him. I'll be able to install them onto my consoles now, so that Christmas morning I'll be able to just play the damn games without waiting an hour or two.

It's the little things that make the holidays great!

@Zassimick: Wut. An hour or two of installing? Fallout 4 installed in 7 or so minutes in my PS4 :P Remember that "You're S.P.E.C.I.A.L" video series? They play that during the install. I only had time to watch 2 full episodes and half or so of the 3rd one.

@Desmonic: I have no idea! Halo 5 took forever to install. Then downloading any updates and stuff.

Doesn't the PS4 do the whole, install a portion of the game and then you can play the game while it continues to install? Maybe that's why it was so quick for you? Or maybe I'm exaggerating, but I don't want to wait come Christmas morn! :P

@Desmonic: Man, was I miffed when Halo 5 finally came out. I was so excited to finally play it. Ran home over lunch to let my dog out and I hoped that the game would have been delivered so I could start the install. Wasn't there.

Wasn't until after work that the package arrived. Took an hour to install. By then, it was time for dinner and the dog needed playtime and...

Man, it was such a small thing but I was so peeved by it. :P

This year has come and gone and I've only played Mortal Kombat X. At least all the good stuff will be cheap next year.

@Zassimick: An hour? As in, the full 60 minutes? "Small thing"? lolno

MS need to get their shit together. If Sony, who is at the very best, "okay-ish" in terms of OS functions and features can get "magic" installs, there is no reason the XB1 can't do the same :P

Is anime doing fine in Japan? There's barely any anime being shown on TV in NA for a while now.

I'm dying more on bosses in DS2 compared to bloodborne I think, but overall it feels easier than bloodborne. I'm advancing through the game much faster than I thought I would in two days only. I'm finally beginning to get into it and liking it more now.

I don't think it is personally, the quality has been declining and the anime you usually see are the same cliche moe shit. There's hardly any anime that is considered good.

But yeah, I side with davillain that Japan is dying and it's not helping when their economy is fucked up AND an anime studio (Manglobe) went bankrupt not too long ago this year.
