I don't have a Wii U (shit out of luck if you have only that anyway as that, and the adapter are ONLY for Smash 4), but I fired up some Nightfire with it and it definitely works like it should. Definitely worth picking up more for the gamer who still plays and collects for the GameCube.

No, they have a ten year contract to develop the Destiny universe. The sneaky thing is that they could launch a Destiny game a year with no post launch support for any of those games for the next eight years, and they'd still be meeting the terms of their contract.

I loved the combat in The World Ends With You. It felt incredibly active and has a natural sense of focus, rhythm and controi that is presented to you; challenge scales based on the output of pressure the encounters output with regards to those challenges. I dont recall encounters being too intrusive since you were always able to pace them when you want.

I'd take it over several turn based combat systems from other RPGs.

I think everyone hates the guy for a while, and most normal people probably continue to hate him forever. By the end of the game though, I found him to be... well **** it, I still hated him, but just a lot less than I did before. He's a total dork that means well.

I don't necessarily hate him, I can sympathise with him as a character. It's just his voice acting that lends him this added layer of being an annoying little shit. >.<

I really like Tidus, he's well developed and empathetic. The issue is with his voice actor, who is pretty awful at the job. But Tidus himself isn't a bad dude, he acts far better in his situation than many people I know in real life would.

@illmatic87: From what I understand, it gave people what they wanted - more of the same - but that was also its biggest problem, it lacks the novelty of the original game.

That and I hear the story was rather disappointing too.

I'm waiting for it to hit PS+ before I give it a go myself.

I'd still say HM2 is one of the better games of the year. At the very least, it has the best licensed soundtrack. It's reason enough to play it.

The biggest issue with the game is that some of the level designs seriously conflict with its sandbox-y nature, leading to some downright cheap difficulty.

Yeah, a lot of the issue is on the surface with him. Terribly annoying voice. Terribly annoying to look at. And at the time, he was by far the worst main character in a FF game up to that point... well, maybe Squall, but still in the top two at least.

One thing that also annoyed me though, was how utterly oblivious he was to certain things. I mean, I get it. He's the player vessel. They wanted to dump you into this mysterious world and have you feel like you have no idea what the **** is going on. You're learning about the world just as Tidus is. Makes sense, but I felt they made him just a tad too stupid.

Most of the game I was just like "why the **** Square, why this idiot?"... but yeah, by the end of the game, I came around to being cool with it. He's that guy who sucks all around, but his one saving grace is having a genuinely good heart.

I remember disliking it at first because it changed up the FF formula in some drastic ways that I wasn't a fan of. I wasn't big on the characters either. It was also jarring being the first FF game with full voice overs, and god damn were they a mess at times.

I came to appreciate the game much more later on though. Spira is a really cool world. I think the game has some of the best damn music of any game around. I also found the both the battle system and the sphere grid addictive as **** once they really get going.

It's not my favorite FF game, but it's definitely in the top 5.

I've only touched two FF games and I like 7's style and music more. The whole surfer world in FFX isn't doing it for me. Plus, I think I would prefer just text for this game. The voice acting is baaaaaaaaad

Yeup.. The only character I ended up liking was Auron, and that's just because he was a bad ass who ended up having a somewhat cool story.

1. Not sure how far along you are, but the world does end up getting pretty cool.

2. Agreed. The voice acting is balls. It was a huge turn off back then and it's still just as annoying now.

I'd say wow landed 2 bad ones, but it's Final Fantasy, probability says you had a much higher percentage of landing a bad game than a good one.

@ConanTheStoner: I'm about 7 or 8 hours in so far, I think, and I'm liking it. There's still a lot that's holding it back- Tidus, for one, being the annoying character that he is, and then there's the fact that while the cutscenes may have been cool to look at back in 2001, today they just feel choppy, which means the storytelling is borderline cringe-worthy at times. And the voice acting is a travesty, no doubt about that. Still, I can't deny that the game's trying to tell what seems like an intriguing story so far (though I would have liked a tighter focus), and the music, as you said, is great. I also really like the battle system. It's nothing special, mostly a slightly tweaked version of previous FFs when you really get down to it, but it's still good. And yes, the Sphere Grid is a pretty good levelling system, it adds a lot of customization to how I want the characters to develop.

And for some reason I'm getting massive Wind Waker vibes from FFX, in terms of tone and setting. Weird D:

In regards to the cast of Final Fantasy X, as much as I love it, Auron and maybe Jecht are the only two characters that don't make me want to bang my head against a wall.

With it being the first game with voiceovers, it was naturally going to be a stepping stone. But damn is the narrative hard to stomach sometimes because you have actors reading some pretty awkward dialogue.

I miss the days of Cecil and Kain.

@jg4xchamp: Out of, what, 13 Final Fantasy games, seven are at least good, so nah, he has more chance to get a good one than a bad one. That said, 7 aged pretty poorly.

@ConanTheStoner: I actually fairly like Final Fantasy characters. Once you strip away the JRPG jank surrounding how they are portrayed, they're grounded characters with understandable motivations: Wakka is just trying to move on from the death of his brother, Lulu is naturally mistrustful of Tidus who has no respect for the customs of the world he is in, Yuna is awesome without explanation, Auron is your cool, badass, dark character, and Tidus has his issues, but they are all believable. I guess I had issues with Riku or what's her name.

@mems_1224:Tidus gets better, and the entire world comes together by the end into something really special. Stick with the game.

In the interests of full disclosure, I'll make it very clear that I fucking hate Final Fantasy X. Almost everything about it rubbed me off the wrong way- I didn't care for the battle system (pretty standard turn based battles), the game takes away my agency by pushing me forwards into a linear path at all times, the writing is terrible, the direction of the cutscenes is awful (they're choppy and badly edited and barely manage to communicate what they are attempting to communicate), the Sphere Grid is a glorified menu screen that ultimately resolves itself into a pretty linear leveling and character building system (at least the Standard one is, I suspect the Expert one is actually pretty cool), the voice acting was terrible, and I can go on.

There are three things X did very well- it has an amazing story (one of my favorites in gaming, and the best one in the FF series), an amazing soundtrack, and it looks gorgeous.

With all of this said, I have immense respect for Final Fantasy X and what it tries to accomplish- I just can't say I cared for much of it myself.

IV is awesome, if a little vanilla. The DS version is the worst version though.

FFIV for the DS is awesome.

At least it was half a decade ago, I haven't played it in a really long time.

Tidus single handedly destroyed any love for that game. Plus frak that ending, seriously wtf were they thinking. Also it annoys the shit out of me how people talk crap about Marcus Fenix, Nathan Drake ect ect being piss poor character models but hey lets ignore Tidus, not only the most annoying character ever (at least in the top 3) but one of the worst designed as well.

Okay, I'm 10 hours into FFX. I'm at the part where they use the Sinspawn to lure Sin and then Sin just wrecks shit and kills everyone in its sights.

Man that Sinspawn Gui boss battle was awesome. Game is starting to grow on me.

FFX-2 was the game that made me fall in-love with the FF franchise! heck it wa my very first FF game it hold dear place in my heart what a game and i still have a crush on Yuna lol

First one? Nah, I wasn't gonna play it probably on a console, maybe my PC, but that was low priority. Sold it and it helped pay for my One.

I was thinking about getting XCX but I won't be around my Wii U too much in 2016 so I'm not sure.

Might wanna get it on the 3DS (idk if you have the New model). I couldn't stomach it on the Wii, but I really love it on the 3DS. I would definitely recommend getting around to the first game in whatsoever form eventually, though- it's too good a game to not at least try.

Dunno about X since I don't have it, but everything I have seen of it makes me want it.
