@jg4xchamp:

I feel ya man, my nostalgia is strong for DKC. Asking me to shit on that game would be like asking me to shit on Street Fighter 2 or Final Fantasy IV. Playing DKC is among my fondest gaming memories.

DKC2 was an improvement though and it has some standout levels with a good amount of challenge.

Definitely basing most of my opinion off Returns btw, I've only dipped my toes in Tropical Freeze. I like what I played, just not in the mood for more DKC. Doesn't help that it just puts me in the mood to play Super Meat Boy instead lol.

For as many times as I've played through all the old Mario games, Metroids, Megamans, and the like, I still find myself playing through the old DKC games most often.

There is something about the newer DKC games that just don't sit with me well. Granted, it's not just the DKC games, but also even the New Super Mario Bros games too. Like as if they were churned out by a machine rather than by a truly passionate team which is something I feel when I play the old DKC games.

Though I don't agree with the old games being B tier platformers. Maybe they aren't mechanically perfect, but I don't think that's necessary. There are too many other aspects to a game that share a part in making it a fun experience. You could strip all the sound and textures from DKC and just play as a grey rectangle on a black background jumping on brown rectangles, and it would mechanically be the same. The game would suck major gorilla testicles though.

I hear ya on the NSMB stuff, as tight as those games are, they feel like assembly line games. I play them once to completion and never touch them again. Unlike SMB3, SMW, SMW2, which I can replay forever.

I just didn't get that feeling from DKCR, though I can imagine DKCTF being like that. Kind of felt like that from what I played.

And yeah, I get that there was more going on to make the experience enjoyable as a whole. But stacking it up against heavy hitters like the SMW games for example, it just doesn't fare so well imo.

Better than Sonic though.

To be honest, I imagine the main reason I replay DKC games so much more often is probably due to their ease, and I don't think they take too long to complete. Without those two obstacles in the way, it just makes them easier to pick up. Plus, the music is amazing. I'd say it has better tunes than Mario, Megaman, and Sonic. In terms of Super Metroid it's hard to compare music. Super Metroid's music was pretty much driving the atmosphere at some points in that game whereas the old DKC music just fits the levels perfectly in many cases.

I don't doubt I've played through all of them a ton in my life though I can't really remember my childhood. I never remember actually beating games back then, but I do remember playing them from sun up until sundown, and then sneaking them after dark.

Is it just me, or is the range on the radar in Halo 5 way too short? I honestly would rather the game not even give me radar than tease me the way it does. It disorients me as it is when I start having bullets shower me from a guy who finally showed up on my radar once he got within 2 feet of me.

Replaying Vanquish for the first time since 2010, after 2 acts, really questioning why I don't think higher of this game, it's so fucking badass. Why do even bother with non Platinum Games?

Side note: The president is Hilary Clinton in this game, and the bad guy is basically Putin in a mechsuit. That's fucking amazing.

Shots at the dark:

1. The control scheme. It was just one button too many. We had the game's version of sprinting separate from rolls which, if I recall, was also separate from the cover button. Took getting used to while you're b****ing at how the game doesn't control like Gears of War while playing the game like Gears of War instead of like Vanquish as you're still in "WHY DOESN'T THIS PLAY LIKE GEARS"-mode.

2. I don't know about you, but I hated all the 'non-standard' weapons. <.< Slow-moving projectile weapons that barely out-sped your rocket thrusters and happening to have a low rate of fire all getting exaggerated in slow-mo feels off and doesn't mesh well in a game that's all about speed. In most situations, the ammo-damage ratio was also shit when you could just pick off heads in style with the LMG.

2b. F*** the weapon upgrade system. Absolutely unnecessary.

3. I seem to recall only four bosses, the giant robot being used like fifty times. /exaggeration

4. The last third of the game toned -down- the crazy until the final boss. Absolute heresy for a Platinum Game.

5. Low health is a pace-breaker, and it can happen frequently during the git gud phase. As you're forced to use all your meter, you spend the next five-ten seconds waiting for it to just end another five-ten waiting to cool down as you're unable to do all the fun things you want to do. It's...anti-climactic. Detensifies what's supposed to be a tense situation and drags things out way too long in a game that's normally very fast.

6. That ending. :\

Radiant Dawn is a sequel and often one of the most criticized games in the series, the two versions of Fates are the same fucking game. One is hard mode, the other is a push over. The fanbase is bioware fans level creepy, so I avoid that shit like the plague.

In the event you meet one of those creeps or, better yet, find yourself in a swarm of them, ask them what they think about:

1. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Formality, really. You know the answer.
2. The differences between Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones.
3a. Awakening being the second-best in the series (according to Techno). Ask this one with anyone, anywhere, anytime! :D
3b. Awakening Hard vs. Awakening Lunatic.
-
4a. Birthright. Take note of how people call it Awakening 2.0.

4b. Revelation. Don't bother taking notes on how people liken it to Radiant Dawn. Tell yourself to never try it. Ever. I will scold you personally if you give IntSys money for it.

4c. Conquest. Take careful note of how nobody likens it to Radiant Dawn or Awakening Lunatic despite being Birthright's "hard mode" and how they'll swear it's more different from Birthright than Blazing Sword ever was from Sacred Stones. Also take note of how many people consider Conquest Lunatic harder than Awakening Lunatic. Lastly, take note of how many people who don't call Awakening one of the best in the series call Conquest one of the best in the series.

-----

After all that, ask yourself just how in the blue hell someone can love "half a game" that's harder than both Radiant Dawn and Awakening Lunatic priced as if it were a full game. From the outside-in, it sounds completely awful.

I

Controls don't bug me, some of the other weapons do indeed suck and agreed on how the upgrade system downgrades you when you die is fucking dumb. Also no new game plus, for a Platinum game? wtf.

I hadn't played Halol in what seems like a few years before Halo 5 came out, and I just don't remember the radar ever being that short range. It really bothers me in Halo 5.

I also don't remember "zoom" being tied to the left trigger by default, nor have I ever been insulted more in my whole life as a Halo fan.

After three full playthroughs of Ratchet and Clank to try to get a fucking trophy to pop (two with cheats, I'm not that much of a masochist.), I'm moving on before I break this disk.

*Fire emblem stuff*

All that stuff is fine and dandy, but I'm not going to think fondly of being presented (not necessarily saying the games can't be great, Conquest seems pretty rad so far) a game with branching paths, and the game is split into multiple purchases as a good thing. Because either way we slice it, the game certainly presents it that way, I mean the damn narratives are tied to it. And yeah while I am very gameplay centric, I like enough context, and in the case of branching paths, I'd want some mechanical differences on those separate playthroughs as well (conveys a difference on the interactive front as well), ergo I'm going to think the business model is a load of shit.

Especially given how they handled releasing retail bundles of the full thing. If they wanted to make a 60 dollar handheld game (which I think is what the bundle price is), I have no fucking problem with that, video game prices shouldn't be this set in stone thing, as the indie market has a beautiful range of prices.

Okay I can get Wolfenstein + The Old Blood for ~ 20€ on the EU PSN sale. Should I? Anyone played them? Were they good? I know they have good reviews, but given that it seems such a story based shooter (from the trailers) I wanna know if it's actually enjoyable.

The F1 2015 game by Codemasters is also duper cheap. Again, any opinions on it?

Not having played Dino Crisis

Games Mikami has directed

1. Resident Evil 4
2. Resident Evil Remake
3. God Hand
4. Disney's Aladdin
5. Vanquish
6. The Evil Within
7. P.N. 03

Adding games I know he's had a big role in making, but wasn't necessarily directing

1. Resident Evil 4
2. Resident Evil Remake
3. God Hand
4. Killer 7
5. Disney's Aladdin
6. Vanquish
7. The Evil Within
8. Shadows of the Damned
9. P.N. 03

Basically after going "why did I think so low of this?" I went "Oh, right". It's a lot of fun, but it's the Platinum Game most in need of a sequel, because to me it's the one that has so much more potential. Plus with Mikami gone, it might double down on Platinum crazy. In contrast Bayonetta was already excellent to me, and while they did clean up some of Bayonetta with Bayonetta 2, I also don't like some of the things they did in Bayonetta 2, even beyond the lowering of the skill ceiling stuff. The Wonderful 101 is fucking great as is, and even Rising 2 is a lost cause because Konami.

It's a shit load better than the other tps games we got last gen, oh my god, even recent ones. Fucking Quantum Break is supposed to be about playing with power and on the move? This makes Quantum Break look like it moves at a snail's pace. I like it basically more than everything that wasn't Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us last gen, even more than Binary Domain, and I love Binary Domain. But looking back, people settled for mediocre games like Alan Wake, 2 of the 3 Uncharted games, and 2013's Tomb Raider when they could have played Vanquish and had fun instead.

**** even this gen, I played through the Splatoon campaign and bought Quantum Break when I could have just played Vanquish and had fun instead.

I agree with the DK64 comment. I got nothing against DKC, though; just not as good as 2 and 3. Also, Returns and Tropical Freeze weren't bad.

Also, we all know the greatest track from the series is Stickerbush Symphony.

DK64 is cancer, only worse because it won't kill you and end your misery.

Oh, didn't see this before.

Yes, fucking agreed to the fullest, I'm willing to hear out opinions on the other games, but when people say they want a new game in the vein of DK64, I have no idea what kind of rain forest dope they're smoking.

If I had to pinpoint one game that made me absolutely despise collectathon bullshit, that'd be the one.

Edit: I think I'd rather play LBP for my platformer fix, that's how real the struggle is.

You know a platformer is bad if you'd rather play LBP.

DK64's main gameplay feature was backtracking...with five goddamned apes. Literally the worst game Rare ever made, and possibly the closest thing to hell on Earth.

Usually I play these older games on an emulator, but I decided to buy DKC on the VC... fucking input lag from hell on the big screen. It's odd because I never noticed input lag with other games on this TV.

For a minute there I thought I just somehow became terrible at DKC, but then I started looking at the WiiU tablet screen instead and all is well.

Personally my favorite is DKC2, with DKC3 close behind. Something about the gimmick variety in DKC3 always resonated with me.

Where's the love for DKC1?

Now... with this said... The only DKC games of old that are good are the SNES games.

DK64 is cancer, only worse because it won't kill you and end your misery.

I feel the same way about DKC1-3 as mmmwksil but probably liked DKC1 more than he/she did. DKC1 made an impact.

DK64 was tedious and fun at the same time which is weird. Parts of it was tedious and parts of it was fun.
